There is Paul Cézanne the artist, and there is Paul Cézanne the godfather. There are the unbalanced, weighty apples and pears then there is their legacy, even weightier.
With your eyes alone you can fall into his painted still lifes and card players, the densely packed bathers, the blocky views of Mont Sainte-Victoire. Just look, and his broken perspectives disclose his scrutinizing intelligence at work. But just looking: ehh, its not so easy. Not when the taciturn painter has been elevated into a master teacher, and his distorted spaces into the starting pistol of modernism. The Museum of Modern Art, in particular, has treated Cézanne for most of its history as a pass/fail entrance exam stationing his downcast Bather from around 1885 at the opening of its collection galleries, a stripped-off sentinel guarding Picasso, Matisse and the rest.
How can this little sheet, of such an unprepossessing subject, have such authority? For crying out loud, its just an apple!

Amazons Turnover Outpaces Its Peers
Amazon is so large, and its churn so high, it affects the industry turnover rate where it operates, according to a Times analysis. In the two years after Amazon opened a new facility, the county turnover rate of warehousing and storage employees rose an average of 30 percentage points compared with two years prior.

As the weeks wore on, hints of trouble were cropping up, according to interviews and posts on JFK8s internal feedback board viewed by The Times. Several said workers should get more warning about mandatory overtime, that schedules changed with no call, no text, no email, nothing. According to a report by openDemocracy in 2020, the Armenian website Medmedia.am was spreading disinformation about the coronavirus pandemic, calling COVID-19 a “fake pandemic” and warning Armenians to refuse future vaccine programmes. The website is led by Gevorg Grigoryan, a doctor who has been critical of the Armenian government’s health ministry and its vaccine programmes, and has a history of anti-LGBT statements, including remarks posted on Facebook in which he called for gay people to be burned. The Guardian newspaper said the site was launched with the unwitting help of a US State Department grant intended to promote democracy.
According to The Daily Telegraph, an Egyptian official suggested in 2010 that the Israeli spy agency Mossad could have been behind a fatal shark attack in Sharm el-Sheikh. It was estimated by the Egyptian Parliament’s Communication and Information Technology Committee that in 2017, 53,000 false rumors had been spread primarily through social media in 60 days.
Israel and Palestinian territories
In 1996, people had been killed in the Western Wall Tunnel riots in reaction to fake news accounts. In April 2018, Palestinian-Israeli football team Bnei Sakhnin threatened to sue Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for libel, after he claimed fans booed during a minute of silence for Israeli flash-flood victims.
Iranian-backed Twitter accounts spread sensational fake news and rumours about Saudi Arabia.

Amazon Is Building Warehouses Faster Than Ever
In Facebook groups, warehouse workers across the country shared photos of the messages their managers sent to motivate and reward them. Some won air fryers or Fire TV Sticks. In Connecticut, a manager messaged employees at their workstations that if they handled 400 items an hour, or about one every 10 seconds, you WIN CANDY. At another, a sign went up during the holidays: Todays Snack: A Banana *Available 9 a.m. until 7 p.m.* In Ohio, workers got scratch-off cards to win prizes.
One employee scratched off two with the same message: Please try again.

Combatting And Suppression Strategies
Considerable research is underway regarding strategies for confronting and suppressing fake news of all types, in particular disinformation, which is the deliberate spreading of false narratives for political purposes, or for destabilising social cohesion in targeted communities. Multiple strategies need to be tailored to individual types of fake news, depending for example on whether the fake news is deliberately produced, or rather unintentionally or unconsciously produced.

Criticism Of The Term
In 2017, Wardle announced she has now rejected the phrase “fake news” and “censors it in conversation”, finding it “woefully inadequate” to describe the issues. She now speaks of “information pollution” and distinguishes between three types of information content problems:
Because of the manner in which president Donald Trump has co-opted the term, Washington Post media columnist has warned fellow journalists that “It’s time to retire the tainted term ‘fake news’. Though the term hasn’t been around long, its meaning already is lost.” By late 2018, the term “fake news” had become verboten and U.S. journalists, including the Poynter Institute were asking for apologies and for product retirements from companies using the term.
In October 2018, the British government decided that the term “fake news” will no longer be used in official documents because it is “a poorly-defined and misleading term that conflates a variety of false information, from genuine error through to foreign interference in democratic processes.” This followed a recommendation by the House of Commons‘ Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Committee to avoid the term.

Workers Of Color Fuel Amazons Operations
A vast majority of the companys warehouse workers in the U.S. are included in the first group in the 2018 data below. These employees are largely people of color, while higher levels of the company tend to be majority white.
Between the constant monitoring, the assumption that many workers are slackers, and the lack of advancement opportunity, a lot of minority workers just felt like we were being used, Mr. Palmer said later.

The Power Of The Metrics
For Traci Weishalla and her peers, a key to boosting thousands of employees to that level of performance was setting the pace. Speed was essential, but so was keeping the whole warehouse in rhythm. If new items were unpacked more quickly than they could be prepared for shipping, all of JFK8 could jam. The fulfillment center was one organism in an even bigger ecosystem of warehouses, and to coordinate with them and the fleet of delivery drivers, Ms. Weishalla had to maintain a quick, consistent pulse.
Two measurements dominated most hourly employees shifts. Rate gauged how fast they worked, a constantly fluctuating number displayed at their station. Time off task, or T.O.T., tracked every moment they strayed from their assignment whether trekking to the bathroom, troubleshooting broken machinery or talking to a co-worker. The company pioneered new ways to calculate both metrics in the mid-2000s, when a smaller, scrappier Amazon set out to revolutionize warehouses.
Mr. Niekerk, the former H.R. chief for operations, said the emphasis on productivity tracking, alluring in a company as analytical as Amazon, was debated from the start. He had been skeptical, arguing that a productivity metric is always a frightening thing, conveying One slip-up and I will fall behind.
I lost that battle, he said. Eventually, he said, promises of firmer, faster delivery created a multiplying effect on the demand for higher productivity.
Technology As The Connecting Tool
Technology so far has been a major connecting tool amongst us humans. It is used and appreciated by all regardless of race, language and sex. In order to keep it less subjective to these arguments about human biases. I believe we should gather opinions on products and solutions before making them available to the public. This could be done by gathering input from intended target users and receiving feedback across the stages of production.
Recognizing the problem is a startsuccess will depend on inclusive technologies that meet this vast untapped market. This cannot be more apt especially at a time when we look up to technology for solutions. We should not muzzle our progress with technology by battling algorithm bias.
