Wcs’s Run For The Wild
In April 2008, the zoo hosted the first Run for the Wild event. The event is a 5k run long) organized by the Wildlife Conservation Society with the goal of raising money and awareness for their conservation programs of endangered species. Each year, there is a set entry fee for participants with varying prices depending on age child , adult, and senior . WCS Members get a discounted fee. Along with the entry fee, there is a $35 minimum donation per adult/senior participant. The event offers free prizes for donors, based on donation size, ranging from a Run for the Wild T-shirt to a special animal experience at the zoo. All donations are tax-deductible. All participants are also offered free all-day entry to the zoo and its paid exhibits/attractions. The yearly event takes place at the end of April and originally began at 8 am for those wishing to actually run, and 8:45 for those who wish to simply walk or jog the start times were changed to 7 am and 7:45 am in later years.
In 2011, another WCS institute, the New York Aquarium, held its own Run for the Wild event for sea turtles in early October. The 5k run began at the aquarium and led down the Riegelmann Boardwalk on Coney Island. The aquarium held a second run the following year for walruses. The event has not returned to the aquarium since.

What To See At The Bronx Zoo
From mid-March through October, the Butterfly Garden attracts over a dozen different butterfly species, which flutter through its meadow and greenhouse, gathering in large numbers by nectar trays. If youre lucky, one might land on your elbow.
The Childrens Zoo is a farmyard where younger kids can pet sheep and donkeys. Its also home to more exotic critters, such as an anteater, two-toed sloth, prairie dogs, mini Nubian goats and alpacas.
The zoo has several primate habitats, called Congo Gorilla Forest, Baboon Reserve and Jungle World, housing small monkeys to large gorillas from various places in Africa and Asia. Other naturalistic enclosures showcase large cats, birds of prey, reptiles, bears and bison.
You can ride a camel, a bug carousel or a monorail. The monorail, through the Asian Wilderness, puts you face to face with red pandas, elephants and rhinos.
In 2017, the zoo introduced Nature Trek, 12 covered rope bridges between towers, elevated tunnels and smaller obstacles, plus a play area with a sandbox, water sprinklers and structures to climb on. Also in 2017, the zoo opened its Bronx Zoo Treetop Adventure with ropes courses for various ability levels and a 400-foot zipline that traverses the Bronx River.

The Butterfly Garden Well over a dozen different butterfly species flutter through the meadow and greenhouse, yet species seem to stick together. Often times, a large number of the same type are seen gathered at one nectar tray.

Madagascar! There are about 97 lemur species native to the island of Madagascar, among them Coquerels Sifaka. Those at the Bronx Zoo are often active, using their strong hind legs to leap from limb to limb and rock to vine.
Holiday Lights From November 18th 2022 to January 8th 2023, the Holiday Lights will be returning to The Bronx Zoo! Extravagant lights cover the park at night as you walk through the zoo. Holiday treats and beverages are also offered, as well as entertainment such as ice sculpting and ornamented stilt-walkers. Tickets must be bought in advance for $39.95 for adults,$34.95 for seniors and $24.95 for children.

So what is the largest zoo in the world? The answer to this question depends on what criteria is used for the term large. Are we measuring the number of species held in captivity or the total land area of the zoo. If we consider only the later the Red McCombs Wildlife in Texas with its 12,000 acres could be considered the biggest zoo in the world. But is has only 20 different animal species and is more of a wildlife preserve than an actual zoo. Just considering the number of species however also doesnt seem to fit the bill.
