American Revolution And The Early United States
Manhattan was at the heart of the New York Campaign, a series of major battles in the early stages of the American Revolutionary War. The Continental Army was forced to abandon Manhattan after the Battle of Fort Washington on November 16, 1776. The city, greatly damaged by the Great Fire of New York during the campaign, became the British military and political center of operations in North America for the remainder of the war. The military center for the colonists was established in neighboring New Jersey. British occupation lasted until November 25, 1783, when George Washington returned to Manhattan, as the last British forces left the city.

Is The Subway Safe
Since 2005, New York City has had the lowest crime rate of the 25 largest US cities . In the main parts of Manhattan, the subway is almost always safe. I use it 24/7 and never have any issues, but if you want to play it really safe, I recommended not using it between about midnight and 5:00am or out to less crowded areas, like further parts of Queens and Brooklyn.
If you are not familar with urban cities, here are a few tips. During daylight, the subway rarely has safety issues. At night, if staying in a remote area, it might be best to avoid the subway. Stations such as Union Square or Times Square are pretty much safe all the time and have the most frequent trains. Always keep your purse and bags closed and close to you.

An unexpected redistricting process is forcing painful matchups.
New Yorkers head back to the polls on Tuesday to vote in primaries for several closely watched House races, among others, as well as the state Senate.
Polls close at 9 p.m. ET.
State Significance
The state has seen sweeping changes that ultimately required a follow-up to its last primary election, in June. During the once-a-decade redistricting process, Democrats initially thought New York was an opportunity to wipe out GOP gains elsewhere in the country. But the courts said that they went too far, ruling their maps unconstitutional and demanding them redrawn.
Perhaps the most anticipated matchup of the season pits two Democratic veterans against one another in what has become a bruising fight for the 12th Congressional District. Upper East Side Rep. Carolyn Maloney, who chairs the House Oversight Committee, will face off against her longtime ally, Upper West Side Rep. Jerry Nadler, the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee.
A third contender, newcomer attorney Suraj Patel, has argued that New York needs a generational shift.
In the newly minted and diverse 10th district, a rare open seat has attracted 13 entrants. Front-runner and Levi Strauss heir Dan Goldman, a former federal prosecutor, received a key endorsement from The New York Times’ editorial board and has emphasized his role as counsel to House Democrats during former President Donald Trump’s first impeachment trial.
How To Use A Metrocard On The Nyc Subway
To use the NYC subway, buy a MetroCard at a machine, available in almost every station. You can use credit or debit card at the automated machines, or cash at a ticket booth, to purchase an Unlimited Ride or Pay-per-Ride card. As a general rule, an Unlimited 7-Day card is a better deal than the Pay Per Ride if you take at least 12 rides in the 7 days.
Unlimited Use MetroCards cannot be used again at the same subway station or bus route for 18 minutes, so each traveler needs their own card. Unlimited cards are available for 7-Days and 30-Days .
Pay Per Ride Each subway ride deducts $2.75 and up to 4 people can use one Per Ride MetroCard. It allows subway-to-bus, bus-to-subway, or bus-to-bus transfer within 2 hours, but does not allow free subway to subway transfers . Per Ride Cards purchased in amounts from $5 to $100, are awarded a 5% bonus for every $5.50 spent. Refill your card to use a balance less than $2.75.
Single Ticket The cost of a SingleRide ticket is $3.00. Sold at automated vending machines only.
Up to three children 44 inches tall and under ride for free on subways and local buses when accompanied by a fare paying adult.

The Worlds Population Growth Rate Is Declining
While there are hundreds of thousands of babies born around the world each day, its worth mentioning that the worlds overall population growth rate has actually been since the 1960s.
This is happening for a number of reasons, including:
- Increased wealth around the world, which research has correlated with fewer births
- Various government policies discouraging large families
- The global shift from rural to urban living
This would increase our global median age even further, which poses a number of economic risks if countries dont properly prepare for this demographic shift.
Lets look at each component in more detail.
Stars Neutrinos And Heavy Elements
All other hydrogen and helium particles that are not free-floating in space exist in stars.
Stars are one of the most populous things we can see when we look up at the night sky, but they make up less than one percentroughly 0.5%of the cosmos.
Neutrinos are subatomic particles that are similar to electrons, but they are nearly weightless and carry no electrical charge. Although they erupt out of every nuclear reaction, they account for roughly 0.3% of the universe.
Heavy elements are all other elements aside from hydrogen and helium.
Elements form in a process called nucleosynthesis, which takes places within stars throughout their lifetimes and during their explosive deaths. Almost everything we see in our material universe is made up of these heavy elements, yet they make up the smallest portion of the universe: a measly 0.03%.

How Do We Measure The Universe
In 2009, the European Space Agency launched a space observatory called Planck to study the properties of the universe as a whole.
Its main task was to measure the afterglow of the explosive Big Bang that originated the universe 13.8 billion years ago. This afterglow is a special type of radiation called cosmic microwave background radiation .
Temperature can tell scientists much about what exists in outer space. When investigating the microwave sky, researchers look for fluctuations in the temperature of CMBR. Instruments like Planck help reveal the extent of irregularities in CMBRs temperature, and inform us of different components that make up the universe.
