A Weekend Trip To New York

Its All About The Little Things For Your First Time In New York City

Weekend Road Trip to New York City – NYC Travel Vlog

So I didnt hit on specific restaurants, bars, or bakeries in this post because they can change all the time and there are so many delicious places to try. But what first-timers should do:

  • Dig into a slice of New York-style pizza.
  • Indulge in fresh pastries at a local bakery.
  • Splurge on a really nice meal. We ate at Gallaghers Steakhouse on our last trip and loved it. Benjamins Steakhouse is a favorite in my family, too. If theres a restaurant youre dying to check out, try to get a reservation far in advance.
  • Pop into the touristy stores for a magnet or postcard.
  • Check out the hole in the wall bars or restaurants.
  • Head to a rooftop bar for stunning city views.

Can I Get An Apartment In New York For The Weekend

NYC is one of those places where accommodation is no problem, but its important to try and book in advance because of how popular the city is. From bachelor flats to palatial apartments, you can take your pick for a weekend away. Besides conventional booking sites, theres also Airbnb where you can find some great options that wont break the bank!

New York Itinerary Day : Get To Know Brooklyn

On your last day in New York, head to Brooklyn, one of New Yorks most diverse boroughs. Ultra hip and trendy, Brooklyn is a hotspot for entrepreneurs, startups and artists. In recent years, the neighborhoods of Brooklyn have seen a dramatic increase in gentrification.

Explore DUMBO Brooklyn

Start your morning at DUMBO Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass one of New Yorks most expensive neighborhoods. The closest subway station is York St station. Just 20 years ago, it was an industrial area where few people lived, but now its a hotbed of dining, recreation and shopping with great views of the Lower Manhattan skyline. Be sure to stop by the bookstore, Powerhouse Arena they have a great collection of books on New York.

Head to the Most Popular Instagram Spot in Brooklyn

Many people flock to Washington Street between Front and Water Streets to capture a shot that features Dumbos cobblestone streets, the Manhattan Bridge, and the Empire State Building. Youre almost certain to see many people taking the same photographmaking it sort of a meta-attraction.

Snack at Time Out Market

Stop by the Time Out Market for some lunch. The market brings together some of New Yorks top culinary talent, all curated by our editorial team. Dont miss the delicious ice cream from Sugar Hill Creamery, expertly crafted pizza from Fornino and homestyle Thai food from Wayla.

Catch a Show at St Anns Warehouse

Hang Out at Brooklyn Bridge Park

Best Outdoor Getaway: Harriman State Park New York

Theres plenty of great hiking and camping to do near NYC, but Harriman State Parkthe second-largest state park in New York with over 47,000 acres and more than 200 miles of hiking trailshas it all. There are waterfalls, expansive views from atop Long Mountain, hammock-friendly trees by the lake, and few, if any, passersby to interrupt the peace and quiet.

For accommodations, choose between a cabin at the Harriman Outdoor Center, setting up camp at the parks rustic Sebago Cabins, or booking the Adirondack Mountain Clubs Camp Nawakwa, then hike the moderate 4.5-mile Pine Meadow Trail that skirts a spectacular lake with boulders made for meditating or cliff jumping. Other activities include boating, fishing, and ice skating in winter, to cover all seasons. Post hike, unwind at nearby coffee shop The Village Blend for a latte and croissant around one of the outdoor fire pits.

: Take NJ Transit two hours from Penn Station on the Port Jervis Line to Tuxedo, then a 15-minute taxi to the state park.: One hour, 15 minutes

Start Your Days Early

A WEEKEND TRIP TO NEW YORK CITY

As you can tell from this NYC itinerary, your days are jam-packed, so make sure you start every day as early as possible to make the most of your 3 days in New York City.

This can of course be hard if youre planning on hitting up some of the hundreds of awesome bars, clubs and speakeasies that the city is known for. But its worth laying off the expensive drinks if you have a limited time in town.

What To Do In Nyc: Day 3

Stroll around Central ParkThe perfect way to relax in the city and leave the crowds behind is to spend the day in Central Park. Its free, there are lots of paths to walk , bike lanes, lakes to row in, and a zoo. Since the park covers over 150 square blocks, its easy to spend hours wandering around. During the summer months, there are often free concerts and theater productions . From the late spring to the early fall, there are free guided walks run by the parks service on Saturdays at 11am. Im a big fan of laying out in Sheeps Meadow on a hot, sunny day with a book, some food, and a bottle of wine.

Several excellent museums can be found in or on the edges of Central Park too .

Visit the The Metropolitan Museum of ArtThe Met is one of the biggest museums in the world, and if you only see one museum in New York, I recommend this one. It has a wide array of art, historical artifacts, photographs, and other exhibits. I like its expansive Impressionist and Greek exhibits. Its chaotic and filled with people, especially on the weekend, but since it is so big, you can usually find some quiet spots away from the crowds. Budget at least a half-day here as a few hours wont do this place justice.

1000 5th Avenue, Central Park, Upper East Side, +1 212 535 7710, metmuseum.org. Open SundayThursday from 10am5pm. Admission is $25 USD .

Central Park W. at 79th Street, Upper West Side, +1 212 769 5100, amnh.org. Open Wednesday-Sunday from 10am-5:30pm. Admission is $23 USD .

Best Accommodations In Town

We personally stayed in two different neighbourhoods TriBeCa and Midtown West and both are great options. TriBeCa feels a little more local, and has good access to the southern tip of Manhattan, while Midtown West is more central located on the west side of the island.

Best Hostel in Manhattan Jazz on Columbus Circle

Staying downtown in Manhattan is always going to be expensive, but if youre in a budget and still want to be in the heart of everything, then the absolute best hostel in town is Jazz on Columbus Circle.

Its a small, boutique hostel and has been renovated to have modern amenities throughout. It has a funky vibe with some awesome decor, and the dorms are small with between 3-6 beds.

Best Mid-Range Hotel Pod 51 Hotel

High-quality accommodation in New York City is not cheap, but the closest balance you can get between affordability and quality is at Pod 51 Hotel.

The rooms are no-frills, but clean, bright and more spacious than you might expect. The location is great, theres fast wifi and an amazing rooftop garden to enjoy.

Best Luxury Hotel in Manhattan Hotel Giraffe by Library Collection

This is it the top of the cream for hotels in New York that you can still get for well under $1000 a night.

The Library Collection has some of the best hotels all around the city, but our favourite is Hotel Giraffe. Youll be treated like a king or queen here!

  • Stop #: Empire State Building

You’ve got to check out one of the most iconic structures in all of New York City the Empire State Building. Ascend to the Observatory on the 86th floor for some of the best views of the entire city. A visit here first thing can actually be a good way to orient yourself in relation to the city at large. Youll see everything from above before you explore the city on the ground.

Dont forget to leave a little time to marvel at the interior and exterior of the building itself: its Art Deco style is very distinctive. Everyone entering this attraction is required to go through a security line, so plan additional time into your estimation. We recommend reserving at least an hour at this attraction .

Enjoy Modern And Eclectic Art At Dia: Beacon

One of Beacons biggest attractions nowadays is Dia:Beacon, a captivating modern art museum and space.

You could spend hours here. We spent longer than we thought we would.

You can buy a ticket on your way in. Once past the cafe at the entrance, youll find yourself in what was once a factory, which gives the space lots of windows and natural light.

Our favorite exhibits were the ones with neon lights and giant metal things. Theres some wacky exhibits having to do with negative space, video, furniture, broken glass and more traditional paint on canvas. We liked reading the artists histories.

The art exhibitions change from season to season, so you can always come back a few months later and see something completely new at Dia:Beacon. Some people call it one of the best places to see contemporary art in the WORLD.

In addition to proof of vaccination, anyone above 2 years of age must wear a mask indoors.

    Get the New York CityPASS

It can be expensive to spend a weekend in New York, especially if youre visiting NYC at Christmas. Entry tickets can add up to a few hundred dollars in one day. I suggest getting the New York CityPASS to save some money, as it will give you access to some of the most popular things to see in town at heavily discounted rates.

The New York CityPASS costs USD$136, but it gives you free access to many popular attractions, such as the Statue of Liberty, the 9/11 Museum, the Met, MoMA, and more. Youll get a MetroCard as well. It would cost $228 if you visit the attractions I mentioned independently. Thats a saving of $92 with the pass!
