It’s On The Lively Southern End Of The Las Vegas Strip

New York-New York is located close to the southern end of the densely packed four-mile-long stretch of hotel-casinos known as the Strip, and across from the MGM Grand . There are plenty of shops, restaurants, and casinos within a short walk of the hotel, including the LINQ and CityCenter.

For visitors wanting to explore all of the big properties along the Strip, cabs are easy to find at virtually any time of day or night. A generally less expensive option is the Deuce, a double-decker bus that runs up and down the strip 24 hours a day, seven days a week. There’s also a monorail system, which stops at MGM Grand across the street. The New York-New York Hotel and Casino is a 10-minute cab ride from McCarran International Airport.

Ride-share services such as Uber and Lyft operate in Las Vegas.

The Hotel’s Pool Is Small And Mellow With Several Whirlpools

The New York-New York Las Vegas pool is small and seasonal but pleasantly mellow, which is a nice change compared to some rowdy Las Vegas pools like those at the Mandalay Bay and MGM Grand. A handful of cabanas are available for rent, and there is a whirlpool that guests can use free of charge. On weekends, finding a lounge chair can be difficult. The pool has a bar, and poolside food and beverage service is available.

Comal Heritage Food Incubatordenver

On a recent visit to Comal, long-cooked pork shoulder with a redolent salsa roja came with tortillas on the perfectly near side of pillowy. Dont count on ordering that, though and thats the best part. The mission of the restaurant is to train women immigrants and refugees in food-service and culinary business skills, so the menu rotates with the preparations of the participants. Syrian, Ethiopian, Salvadoran and Mexican food have all made appearances. But the hope is always that you will get the food at another restaurant, eventually. So far, at least seven women have gone on to start their own businesses. Brian Gallagher

Hannibals Soul Kitchencharleston Sc

NEW YORK NEW YORK LAS VEGAS Review

Sometimes, you can taste a lot of history in one bite of food. Here, that bite should be the crab rice served at Hannibals Soul Kitchen, one of the last old-school Gullah Geechee restaurants in the area. Its version is definitive, with local blue-crab meat pan-fried so its crispy but still retains bits of soft flesh, piled generously over white rice. And its just one item on a menu that delivers other Lowcountry dishes youd be hard pressed to find better examples of anywhere. Kim Severson

Gage & Tollnernew York City

When Sohui Kim, Ben Schneider and St. John Frizell took over the abandoned dining room at 372 Fulton Street, their goal was daunting: to revive one of the greatest restaurants in the history of Brooklyn. They did more than that. The new Gage & Tollner is many things: a cocktail fanatics haven a wine drinkers playground a tribute to the great Edna Lewis, who was the chef near the end of the first incarnation a place for Old Brooklyn and more recent arrivals to check each other out, warily, while wondering to themselves whether there is any point in going anywhere else in the borough for steak. Chapmans Eat Marketcolumbus Ohio

Like so many restaurants that opened in the teeth of the pandemic, Chapmans cycled through stopgap identities before finally settling into the restaurant it was intended to be in May. Thats when the married owners BJ Lieberman , a former chef at the acclaimed Roses Luxury, in Washington, D.C., and Bronwyn Haines unveiled the first à la carte menu for customers seated inside the historic German Village space. You dont have to have grown up in Columbus, as Ms. Haines did, to be enthused by Mr. Liebermans deft, globally inspired comfort food. Brett Anderson

Anyone can pop open a tin of caviar and serve it on ice. The real luxury is much farther down the food chain a handful of fresh, gleaming anchovies, caught, gutted and brined earlier in the day. The Anchovy Bar, run by Stuart Brioza and Nicole Krasinski of State Bird Provisions, serves fresh, silvery fillets with toasted bread and fixings, and treats the glorious seafood of the West Coast with all the care it deserves, from Hama Hama oysters and Monterey squid to Marin Coast octopus and geoduck clams. Roots Southern Tablefarmers Branch Texas

This Dallas suburb is not a renowned dining destination. But it soon will be, thanks to the chef Tiffany Derry. Roots, which opened in June, is her take on Southern cooking, anchored firmly in her Louisiana upbringing, with plenty of seafood, okra and dirty rice to go around. The food speaks in loud exclamations, like her mothers gumbo, punctured by a fat blue-crab claw and bathed in a rich, dark roux. If eating her cornbread with smoked butter is like a warm embrace, the duck-fat fried chicken which should certainly be ordered with a side of duck-fat-fried potatoes is the equivalent of a bear hug. Known for being one of the few in town, the New York-New York Las Vegas roller coaster is a highlight here. For couples looking for a dramatic beginning to their life together, the hotel also offers a roller-coaster wedding.

Zumanity at New York-New York Hotel & Casino is the other major hotel feature. The popular Cirque du Soleil performance is for adults only and is a mix of burlesque and cabaret. Tickets arent cheap, but those wanting to catch the show without breaking the bank can purchase a Cabaret Stool or Balcony Seat ticket, which are on par price-wise with other major Las Vegas shows. Other entertainment options include live music, DJ sessions, a piano bar, and weekly events at Brooklyn Bridge and the two arenas located at MGM Grand.

A standard range of services are available at the spa, including massages, waxing, manicures and facials, and there is a small hydrotherapy area that guests can use for a fee. The gym offers a decent range of cardio and strength-training machines in a room with natural light and city views. Bottled water and towels are available free of charge.

Comfortable Yet Worn Rooms Have Free Wi

The hotel has 2,024 rooms and suites, divided into several categories named after New York avenues or landmarks. Decor is classic but a tad bland and dated, consisting of simple wood furniture, generic brown carpets, padded headboards in purple hues, and seating in a neutral palette with throw pillows in darker shades. Rooms are also beginning to show some wear and tear — especially in carpets, walls, and furniture — and some guests have reported maintenance issues in bathrooms.

Starting at 350 square feet, the New York-New York Casino hotel rooms are spacious and have large windows, some of which offer expansive Strip views. Bed configurations include one king or two queen-size beds, all with pillow-top mattresses and plush duvets. Rooms come in two main types: Park Avenue and Madison Avenue. The only difference between them is size — the latter are 50 square feet bigger than the former. The hotel also offers a number of suites — ranging from 500-square-foot Spa units to 1,100-square-foot Penthouses — all of which feature four-person jetted tubs in the room, plus sitting areas. Higher-tier suites have dining tables and wet bars.

Bathrooms are clad in either marble or granite, and feature one or two sinks, walk-in showers or shower/tub combos, and a range of toiletries. Higher-tier suites come stocked with upgraded shower gel and shampoo.

Frasca Food And Wineboulder Colo

Every college town has a special-occasion restaurant for recent graduates and newly tenured professors, but its unlikely any are as ambitious and refined as Frasca. Now 17 years old, the restaurant works in the spirit of the Friuli-Venezia-Giulia region in northeastern Italy. On a recent summer tasting menu, a crudi misti with cucumber and buttermilk elegantly balanced tang and freshness, while a meticulously constructed cjalson pasta was filled with a silky mixture of beet and smoked ricotta. The Rockies are a long way from Trieste, but the flavors here make the journey beautifully. Brian Gallagher

Blood Bros Bbqbellaire Texas

The daily changing menu at this strip mall barbecue restaurant in a Houston suburb is a product of the seemingly endless ideas for cooking Texas barbecue whirling through the brains of the owners and staff. One day, brisket burnt-end steam buns and smoked chicken karaage. The next, char siu pork banh mi and Thai green curry boudin balls. All feature meat smoked by the pitmaster, Quy Hoang, who owns the restaurant with the brothers Terry and Robin Wong. But these disrupters dont disdain the classics: Their traditional brisket, ribs and housemade sausages are excellent, and available every day. Brett Anderson

Happiness is a bowl of Cong Tu Bots chao chay on a chilly Maine morning warm, supple grains of rice that disappear into the bowl, slicks of chile oil, tart tangles of mustard greens, a chewy cake of daikon and kale and showers of herbs and scallions. The restaurant was originally a noodle shop but a few months ago, the owners, Vien Dobui and Jessica Sheahan, transformed it into a daytime cafe, with a menu that includes pho ga, bun cha and outstanding pastries like a crumb-topped, neon-green pandan coffee cake. A meal here is an extremely compelling argument for the superiority of Vietnamese breakfast food. Priya Krishna
