Chris Cheung may come from the fine-dining world, but his most-recent success centers around snacks that require breaking an Alexander Hamilton. We’re talking pork belly “Gwacos” for $5, Shanghai vegetable dumplings for $7, dry-aged beef pot stickers for $8, and shrimp har gow swiped with abalone sauce for $9. Granted, these aren’t the 5-for-$1 dumplings traditionally found in Chinatown, but unimpeachable craftsmanship and top-of-the-line ingredients are worth the mini splurge and the trip to one of East Wind’s three Brooklyn locations.

Il Buco Alimentari & Vineria Noho
An outpost of the original restaurant, il Buco on Bond Street, il Buco Alimentari & Vineria is a special place because it combines both the specialties of the Italian village grocery with the quintessential Italian cafe. The alimentari, or market side, sells a selection of house-made salami, cheeses, and homemade breads.
The vineria offers a wide selection of Italian fare such as homemade artisan pasta and their ever-popular short rib sandwiches. The dishes feature many of the ingredients sold at the alimentari as well as other market-fresh and seasonal ingredients. The wine bar offers a superb selection of wines. Uva is a popular Italian restaurant in the Upper West Side. Carbone is a high-end Italian-American restaurant created by chefs Mario Carbone, Jeff Zalaznick, and Rich Torrisi. The restaurants retro-glam interior has many allusions to mid-20th century Italian restaurants in New York. The food is served by captains who act the part of joking, slightly bossy Italians from the time period.
Guests might feel as if they have stepped into the Godfather. Recommended dishes at Carbone include carpaccio piemontese, scampi alla scampi, Caesar salad alla ZZ and the lemon cheesecake. Pastrami Sandwich At Katzs Deli
One cannot leave New York without trying a pastrami sandwich from Katzs Deli. Its not my opinion, it is a fact. First of all, the deli is over a hundred years old! It was opened in 1888 under the name of Iceland Brothers. Over time the deli changed names and locations a few times until it found a permanent home on Houston Street as Katzs Delicatessen .
Katzs Deli is most famous for its pastrami sandwich that is so big, theres a sign inside that dares you to finish it on your own. Pastrami here is prepared the old-school way: first curing for 3-4 weeks, then smoking for up to 72 hours, and finally boiling for 4 to 6 hours. After that, you can cut the meat with a butter knife.
If you are still not convinced, Katzs Deli doesnt only have amazing food, but it served as a filming location for movies like When Harry Met Sally and Across the Universe. I wrote all about my experience at Katzs in this post.

Ive come here a couple of times with some of my Korean students who have all remarked that this place is the real deal.
Located in little Korea on 32nd street, Baekjeong is a goodeats. They have personal BBQ grills at each table and a nifty extractor that comes down to suck up all the smoke from the food cooking on the flames. There is a ton to choose from on the menu and everything is fresh and yummy .
Pro Tip: This restaurant is best enjoyed in large groups, so I would not recommend coming here as a couple because the serving sizes are HUGE and expensive if only split two ways.

‘Cesca is a popular spot for theater-goers to grab a pre- or post-show bite as it is located next door to the Beacon theater in the Upper West Side. The restaurant has a farm-to-table philosophy and sources most of their ingredients locally. The medium-sized dining room is typically quite busy with foodies who flock here for the traditional and diverse Southern Italian menu.
