A Few Facts About Brooklyn Ny

Brooklyn NYC Travel Guide: Everything you need to know

There are some pretty interesting facts about Brooklyn. For example, did you know it used to be a completely separate city from New York? Its original name was Breuckelen, and it was founded by Dutch settlers way back at the start of the 17th century.

Stop Into The Coney Island Museum

Coney Island is one of Brooklyns most famous neighborhoods the amusement district has been entertaining visitors for decades, and theres a rich history behind the dedication that went into creating Coney Island.

Entertaining for all ages, the Museum dives into the amusement parks, and the people who worked tirelessly to make Coney Island the truly special place its become.

Check Out Brooklyn Brewery

Once upon a time, Brooklyn had a serious brewing scene. In fact, at the end of the 19th century, more than 40 breweries could be found on Brooklyns premises. However, many of the biggest breweries were closed or relocated during the middle of the 20th century.

The 1980s marked the age of the microbrewery scene around the United States, but no one was bold enough to take a risk and open a brewery in Brooklyn. At least not until Steve Hindy, a reporter who came back home from the Middle East where he had discovered the local scene of homebrewing, decided to bring brewing back to Brooklyn. With the help of his neighbor, Tom Potter, he opened Brooklyn Brewery in the late 1980s and supplied beers to many local establishments. In 1996 the Brewmaster Garret Oliver joined the team, and Brooklyn Brewery was opened to the public. Nowadays, Brooklyn Brewerys popular beers are shipped to many places all over the United States and to more than 30 countries. Their beers and brewmaster, Garret Oliver, have won many awards over the years, including the prestigious James Beard Award for Outstanding Spirits, Wine or Beer.

You can visit their tasting room and get a tasting of a few beers, or you can book a tour of their brewery, on Saturdays and Sundays the tours are free of charge. For more details about exact opening hours and tours check out the Brooklyn Brewery website.

There is no shortage of amazing pizza places in Brooklyn, and Julianas is one of the best. Some people even say that Julianas serves the best pizza in New York City.

We waited in line for about a half an hour for a table. On the menu are salads, pizzas, and pastas, as well as a variety of desserts.

The pizza is very good. Its similar to pizza you would get in Naples, Italy, with a thin crust, simple but delicious tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, basil, and a dash of olive oil. You can order the plain and simple margherita pizza or take your pick of toppings. Enjoy!

PRO TRAVEL TIP: After lunch, you will ride the East River Ferry to Williamsburg. The ferry runs roughly every 30 minutes during the summer and every 45 minutes in the winter. While at lunch, look up the next ferry so you know when to be at the Dumbo ferry station.
