How Do You Get From Laguardia To Manhattan Or Brooklyn

Without getting into it, the NYC Taxi Union worked really hard to keep LGA from getting a subway connection in the 1970s. That means the subway lines stop about a mile from the airport. Arent special interest groups awesome? If you want to get to LGA via public transit you have to take the subway, walk a few blocks, transfer to a bus, then hopefully get out at the right terminal.

If that doesnt sound like fun, you can take a taxi or rideshare service. Funny how that works out. The only problem with driving to LGA is that its undergoing massive upgrades to basically every single terminal. Its going to look amazingin about 5 years. Until then, get ready for construction delays and expensive cab fares.

How Long Is The Train Ride

The train is a perfect compromise on public transportation. It’s much more comfortable and faster than taking the bus, and also wildly cheaper than taking a taxi. Travelers must first take the AirTrain from JFK to Howard Beach Station, which takes about 12 minutes and costs $7.75 . The AirTrain departs from JFK every 10 minutes and operates 365 days a year, 24 hours a day.

From Howard Beach Station, you can transfer to the subway. The A line departs every 30 minutes and takes about 25 minutes to get to Kingston-Throop Avenues station in the center of Brooklyn. It costs $2.75 for a single ride. Altogether, the trip should take about 45 minutes and cost $10. You can use MTA’s Trip Planner to see real-time subway and AirTrain schedules and arrivals in real-time.

Which Is The Best Airport To Fly Into Nyc

Which New York Airport if You

For most people traveling in and out of New York, JFK is the best airport to fly into. Its the easiest to get to/from on the subway and has a good variety of flight departure times and destinations.

LaGuardia is a good second choice if youre staying in Queens, Midtown, or Williamsburg and willing to take a taxi to/from the airport.

Newark , however, should be your last choice. Even if flights to Newark are $50-$80 cheaper than JFK or LGA, you might end up paying the difference in fare on a taxi, or braving New Yorks confusing public transportation to/from the airport.

National Park Service Ownership

Creation and early years

The United States House of Representatives approved the creation of Gateway National Recreation Area in September 1972, and most of the land was transferred to the National Park Service for inclusion in Gateway National Recreation Area. In the same vote, the House denied the state’s provision to create a housing development at Bennett Field. The recreation area was officially created on October 27, 1972. The National Park Service acquired most of the Navy-owned portion of the field, as well as some city-owned land to the west and north that had not been owned by the Navy. Bennett Field became the headquarters for the Gateway Area’s Jamaica Bay unit. The Coast Guard was able to gain ownership of CGAS Brooklyn, which it then proceeded to expand. In circa 1973, new concrete barracks were erected on the site of the former World War II-era barracks. The remainder of Bennett Field was owned separately by the Naval Air Reserve Detachment, as well as the United States Department of the Interior and the United States Department of Transportation . The NYPD’s aviation unit continued to lease space in hangar 3, and later also started leasing hangar 4.

Which NYC Airport Should You Choose: LGA, JFK, or EWR?

Everyone says it takes an hour to get to JFK from Manhattan, but thats only if the stars align. I always allow 90 minutes to get to JFK on the train, and 30-40 minutes if I take a cab or car.

  • Subway to JFK: 60-90 minutes
  • Car or taxi to JFK: 30+ minutes

If youre in town for a few days, dont try to save money by taking the subway to/from the airport. Bite the bullet and pony up $60 for a cab or a Lyft. However, if youve got time to spare or want to save $50, by all means, take the subway.

What Is The Closest Airport To Fly Into If Going To Brooklyn

what’s the closest airport to fly into if going to brooklyn, ny?

I would suggest you ask your friends then – that would be best and simplest

Thanks, but they just moved there and drove in. I’ll just ask them to ask around. Just thought that I could get a quick answer here.

Thanks everyone.

williebr, even if they moved there just two minutes ago, they have to know their own address!!!!!!!! After all, how could they have driven there if they didn’t know where to stop the

Will you be using public transport to where you are staying or taking a cab? If you are using public transport than JFK is better. If you are taking a cab a cab from JFK will be more expensive BUT if the flight to LaGuardia is much cheaper you may still come out ahead.

Yes, they do know their address. I didn’t want to post it, however. Sorry to cause your concern. This is easily resolvable by having them ask around and their getting back to me. They moved there only a couple of weeks ago and are in school and working as well, so quite busy. I didn’t know this was going to be so complicated. I thought I would post the question and it was a matter of a simple answer. Of course, I can also get a map and find other solutions.

I see that’s it’s not a simple answer, but do thank all those trying to help.

Thank you. This is the kinda thing I was wondering about. Much appreciated.

JFK or LGA will be fine. You can have a look at distances by typing the exact address on

They are in the first hundred block of Morgan.
