Is New York Film Academy Good

New York University Film School

NYFA Student Spotlight on Actress Natasha Thahane

NYU has a commendable acceptance rate slightly above the 30% mark and requires a minimum entry cutoff encompassing a high school GPA and an SAT/ACT score ranging between 1250 to 1480 and 29 to 33 respectively. More specifically, the SAT range should include Math scores between 630 and 760, reading scores between 620 and 720 and writing scores averaging 630 to 730. Submitting applications early has been shown to boost chances of admission and the application charges stand at $70.

Recent polls have figures showing that 61% of those who applied to the film school described the admission process as caring in that the school did really care for those who wanted to pursue a career in filming.

A further 9% agreed that the process was very detailed and evaluated them on an individual front rather than as a crowd like most colleges do.

Courses offered

The NYU Film School offers a number of effective and prestigious courses namely:

Graduate film program

This program spans the length of three years with the possibility of an extra year if you elect to do your thesis after that period.

The first year covers many technical aspects in line with editing, acting, writing, shooting, producing and directing at the end of which the students submit a trio of short films for evaluation.

Design for stage and film course

More specifically, this degree is meant to allow the student to explore the subject of film design and other related topics.

BFA in Film and Television-BS in Business

Great Program Superb Instructors Loads Of Useful Information

It was very good to have the experience of holding a camera, creating your space with lights and props, and actually seeing your concept become a reality. The instructors were quite instrumental in guiding us through this process of going from a few scribbled notes to shaping them into a film-able story, with characters who had clear objectives and arc, which all came to life in random locations, right in front of the camera…. quite an amazing experience!

Post program, I used the knowledge and skill to continue writing and creating promotional videos and monologues, and with that added to my repertoire and resume, I cannot say with all certainty that this program resulted in my being offered a position as a faculty at Tsinghua University, to teach Drama and Literature, but I am quite sure it did not hurt.

I would do it again…..but I have already done it!

Admission Requirements For International Students

  • All applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent. There is no minimum GPA required for the application.

What Is Your Favorite Travel Memory

New York Film Academy

I love the Greek islands, but I guess my favorite travel memory is the first time I visited Australia.

The vastness of this golden, multi-colored land with blue, blue ocean and palm trees was my idea of paradise. I particularly remember a wonderful sunset at Uluru where, as the sun went down, the rock changed color from light brown to red to purple and then became shadow.

A fabulous experience. And then, of course, the waterfalls of Kakadu…

New York Film Academy Sydney

After spending one year at NYFA, Sydney I’ve gained a lot of experience.

First of all, dedicating a year to study Screenwriting has been amazing. I took time to live in a country I love and study something I’m passionated about. Who wouldn’t want to do that?

If it wasn’t for coming here I wouldn’t have met the people I’ve met or have found a new place to call home. But I honestly don’t think the aftermath is the only thing that’s important. You will grow so much as a person. Some moments might be tough but most of them will become the best memories you have.

If you ever thought about traveling or studying abroad then you should do it. Not only will the experience and what you learn be something you will keep with you for the rest of your life. But you will also never have to worry what could’ve been.
