When Is New York Fashion Week

New York Fashion Week Kicks Off Sunday Event Will Be All Virtual

Metallics, low-rise baggy pants and bubble hems these are some of the styles that dominated the Spring 2022 New York Fashion Week that lasted from Sept. 8 to 12, 2021 and these will be the trends that fast fashion brands like Shein and Zara will replicate. Fashion shows influence trends for the current and upcoming seasons, and while they celebrate designers creative visions, it is hard to ignore their permanent impact on the environment.

Modern fashion shows take inspiration from fashion parades in the early 1900s in Paris, where members of high society viewed the latest fashion in informal, private shows. By the 1960s, fashion shows aimed to connect with their audiences by adopting more inclusive elements: less exclusive shows and ready-to-wear collections available for purchase. Fashion shows now, especially those at New York Fashion Week, are immersive experiences that garner public attention due to social media.

Trend replication, rapid production and low prices have a detrimental impact on the planet, causing the fashion industry to make up 10% of the worlds greenhouse gas emissions. Fashion Week merely elevates this problem because it speaks for the fashion industry and indirectly controls the overconsumption and mass production behind microtrends. As the culture of fashion slowly changes, its necessary to view sustainability through a collective lens that holds everyone from manufacturers to influencers accountable.

Laquan Smith Takes His Career To New Heights

With over a decade in business, LaQuan Smith took his career to new heights for his Spring/Summer 2022 collection. LaQuan is the very first designer to host a fashion show at the prestigious location which overlooks his hometown of Queens. Ascending the 120 floors were supermodels including Taylor Hill, Elsa Hosk and Winnie Harlow, all of whom were draped in LaQuans expertly craft designs. The star of the show? The New York City skyline at dusk, of course.

Where Is New York Fashion Week

Prior to Fall 2015, the venue for New York Fashion Week was the Lincoln Center when Mercedes-Benz was the sponsor. Once WME/IMG took over, the two new main venues became Skylight Clarkson Square and Skylight Moynihan Station, the first of which is also New York Fashion Week: Menâs primary venue. Chelsea Piers and Park Avenue Armory have also become popular locations for shows and events, with a few other shows scattered throughout downtown Manhattan. Iconic venues include the Hammerstein Ballroom chosen for Marc Jacobsâ Spring 2017 show or the Museum of Modern Art used for Carolina Herreraâs Spring 2018 show.

The show became the fourth show in New York for the creative director of the brand Sophie Delafontaine. Having changed its registration, the brand does not change its mission: the next collection is a new interpretation of the French style.

This time the influence of 70s fashion is very noticeable in the line: flowing dresses and skirts with prints, a lot of leather and suede, high boots. Emerald green, ocher and pale blue shades have become key in the collection.

After over a year on pause, New York Fashion Week has returned with glimmers of its former glory. Sure, vaccination cards are shown at the door and the main accessory is a face mask, but the runways are back and charging ahead with the latest styles of spring 2022. From Proenza Schoulers poetic presentation with sweeping views of the Hudson River to Prabal Gurungs evening soiree deconstructing the American Girl, were rounding up our favorite looks of the season ahead.

Was Staud the highlight of NYFW? For me, the answer is unequivocally yes. For her spring 2022 show, designer Sarah Staudinger transformed the terrace at Spring Studios into a lemon yellow-tinged disco party, complete with super cropped tops, extra low-rises, surprise fireworks, bubbly tequila drinks, and Larry David sitting front row, plugging his ears .Claire Stern

Like all things Khaite has done in its short tenure , its spring 2022 runway was a master class in wearable high luxury. From its oft-duplicated cashmere bra to footwear seen on the street style masses, designer Catherine Holstein has a knack for understanding the soft ease of American sportswear. This collection also pulled out decisive outerwear, shirtdresses swathed in pieces of jersey, and a floor-length hobo bag sure thats sure to be the it-accessory of the season.Justine Carreon

How To Get Into New York Fashion Week

In 2017, Proenza Schouler, Rodarte, and Thom Browne all decamped to Paris for the fall 2017 shows. Altuzarra followed shortly thereafter. This September, they will all returnand more Tom Ford is also back after staging his fall 2020 show in Los Angeles and Telfar will host an event during the week after one season in Paris and another at Pitti Uomo. For Ford, the decision to return reflects an opportunity to reaffirm the resilience and independence of American fashion and New York City as a global fashion force. The other Tom is tying his show to the Costume Institutes In America: A Lexicon of Fashion exhibition curated by his partner Andrew Bolton, the Wendy Yu Curator in Charge of The Met. Also, I have always been so proud to be an American designer, Browne said. The designers are staying mostly mum on their plans and venues, but whats certain is that a confluence of these big names alongside the next gen of talent will go a long way to revitalizing American fashion.Steff Yotka

The Black In Fashion Council Showroom Promotes Real Change

The fashion industry began to reckon with its racist practices in the summer of 2020, but supporting Black designers without setting up real pipelines for success has been all too common in fashion, as Black in Fashion Council co-founder Lindsay Peoples Wagner noted in her recent editors letter for The Cut. The rush to appear supportive, to quickly publish roundups of Black designers for Black History Month without genuine investment by fashion brands to include them in future editorial plans, has done a disservice to the very designers theyre meant to help, she wrote. Without dedicated mentors showing them how to grow and maintain longevity in such a fickle industry, many of those designers are being set up to fail.

Tory Burch Spring 2022

10 Best Outfit at New York Fashion Week 2016

Tory Burch used Sohoâs Mercer Street as her runway, hosting a fashion-filled block party that the world was so desperately in need of. Not only was it a celebration of style, but she also enlisted the help of local downtown businesses to set up shop on the street.

The collection as a whole was dedicated to Claire McCardell, sportswear designer from nearly three-quarters of a century ago. Burch announced at the show that she had established the Tory Burch Claire McCardell Fashion Fellowship at the Maryland Center for History and Culture, where the late designerâs archives are housed.

Through the bright easeful wear of knit skirts, hook-and-eye closure dresses, low slung pants styled with bodysuits, and more, McCardellâs mission was clear on the Tory Burch runway for Spring. And, to take a bow, instead of wearing her own designs, Burch herself opted to honor her muse by wearing a vintage McCardell look that could have existed in her own show today.
