What Sports Teams Does Yes Network Cover
The primary focuses of YES Network are the New York Yankees and Brooklyn Nets . It also broadcasts several matches played by New York City FC and New York Liberty .
The Yankees and Nets were initially brought on board when YES Network was launched in 2002. New York City FC joined in 2015 and New York Liberty became part of the network in 2019.
However, Yankees fans should take into account that around 10-15% of the teams games will instead be shown on PIX11, an affiliate of The CW that is not available through DIRECTV STREAM. To access those broadcasts, you would need to pay for Amazon Prime or use an antenna.
With that said, all locally produced Nets broadcasts will be available for viewing through a DIRECTV STREAM subscription. The same is mostly true for New York City FC and New York Liberty games, the exceptions being contests that are instead only streamed on the YES app and then broadcast on that channel on a tape-delay basis.
Much of the YES Networks non-game programming revolves around those aforementioned teams. Yankees-related examples of these types of programs include History of the Yankees, Yankees Magazine, Homegrown: The Path to Pinstripes, and The Michael Kay Show. Programming unrelated to its teams involves sports as varied as golf and boxing.
Minor League Baseball And College Sports
Since the network’s debut, YES has aired select telecasts of the Yankees’ minor league farm teams, primarily the Class-A Staten Island Yankees of the New YorkPenn League. Those games are produced by YES, utilizing the same graphics and announcers as seen during game telecasts of the major league Yankees.
From 2002 to 2006, YES also broadcast games from the Yankees’ former Class-AAA team, the Columbus Clippers of the International League. Those games were produced locally in Columbus, Ohio. After the 2006 season, the Yankees ended their affiliation with the Clippers, and became affiliated with the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders . YES has only televised one RailRiders game, Masahiro Tanaka’s minor league rehab start, the team also has local coverage within its Scranton/Wilkes-Barre market.
The network has also broadcast various college sports events including football and basketball games from the Ivy League, basketball games from the Big 12 Conference and rebroadcasts of Notre Dame Fighting Irish football games. It also carries the coaches’ shows of Notre Dame and the Penn State Nittany Lions. In 2011, YES began airing live broadcasts of college basketball games involving the Fordham University. YES also airs college football and basketball games from the ACC on Regional Sports Networks produced by Raycom Sports and Bally Sports South.
Stream The Yes Network With Directv Stream
If you would like to get online-only access to the YES Network, you need to get DIRECTV STREAM . Note that its Entertainment plan does not offer any RSNs. You should select, at a minimum, its Choice plan .
With Choice, you will also get sports programming from the Big Ten Network, ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, FS1, and NBCSN. Those who bump up to its Ultimate plan will also get CBS Sports Network and FS2.
You will also receive other RSNs. Which ones will depend on where you are located. For example, subscribers in New York City will also get the MSG Network and SportsNet New York.
Those in Buffalo, NY, can watch those same channels and AT& T SportsNet Pittsburgh and Bally Sports Great Lakes. Subscribers in Hartford, CT, will get the MSG Network, SportsNet New York, NESN, and NBC Sports Boston in addition to the YES Network.

Launch Of A New Network
The YES Network launched at noon on March 19, 2002 with a half-hour introductory show. The first game broadcast on YES was an exhibition game against the Cincinnati Reds at 7 PM on the same day. At its launch, YES was available on DirecTV and to subscribers of all major New York area cable providers except Cablevision which would refuse to add the network for the next two seasons . The first regular season game broadcast on YES was played on April 1 against the Baltimore Orioles.
In late 2003, the Yankees and Nets decided to part ways, with the Nets being sold to a group led by real estate developer Bruce Ratner. The sale did not include the Nets’ ownership stake in YES , which remained with the pre-merger owners of the team. As part of the sale, the Nets signed a long-term deal to keep the team’s game telecasts on YES. In 2004, YankeeNets was renamed Yankee Global Enterprises, which owns the Yankees and the minority share in YES as separate companies. Therefore, the Yankees technically don’t own YES. The Yankees, however, receive a rights fee from YES that is somewhat higher than MSG previously paid.

The Yankees open their season at Yankee Stadium on Thursday, April 1 against the Blue Jays to kick off a full, 162-game season.
The 2020 season was only 60 games long, and teams were restricted to opponents in their own division or the same regional division for the other league. Some normalcy is returning to the MLB this year as far as season length and matchups go, but a number of Covid-related rules and regulations are still in effect.

The Yankees advanced to the American League Division Series on Wednesday night with a 10-9 win over the Cleveland Indians in Game 2 of their AL Wild Card round series.
The 5-seeded Yankees will face the top-seeded AL East champion Tampa Bay Rays in the best-of-5 ALDS, with Game 1 coming on Monday, October 5, 2020 at Petco Park in San Diego, California.

Here it is. The Rivalry in October once again. The New York Yankees were so close to hosting the AL Wild Card Game in the Bronx, but they couldnt get the series win over the Tampa Bay Rays. In 2000, YankeeNets entered into a marketing agreement with the New York Giants this included awarding YES the exclusive rights to the NFL franchise’s magazine programs . The Giants’ relationship with YES Network ended in 2007, at which time its team-related programming moved to Foxowned-and-operated stationWNYW and MyNetworkTV owned-and-operated station WWOR-TV , a duopoly owned by Fox Television Stations .
YankeeNets also maintained a similar relationship with English football club Manchester United. YES broadcast tape-delayed and classic United games produced by the team-owned Manchester United TV in the network’s earlier days.

Gerrit Cole has been phenomenal for New York this season. The AL Cy Young contender went 16-8 with a 3.23 ERA in 30 starts this season. He made four starts against the Red Sox this year and went 2-2, with the most recent outing coming in an 8-3 Yankees win at Fenway Park on Sept. 24.
Stepping on the mound for the Red Sox will be former Yankee Nathan Eovaldi.
