How To Sell Your Eggs In New York

Egg Donor Application And Screening

Really Good Scrambled Eggs

Before everything else can happen, potential egg donors must;apply to our egg donation program;and then go through an initial screening process and two rounds of interviews . You will see a doctor for a physical exam, a health history, a family history, and some testing. Only the donor applicants who pass all these screening steps will be added to our egg donor program, and can be matched with a recipient couple. CHR’s egg donor program is very selective: on average, we accept only about 1-3% of applicants to our donor program.

What Is The Difference Between A Chicken And A Duck Egg

Eggs are eggs it seems to be. The turkey egg,;guinea egg, and;ostrich egg have been found to be similar to a chicken egg. So, is there really a difference between a duck and a chicken egg?

The general consensus seems to be that duck eggs do in fact, taste pretty much like a chicken egg.

But here are the duck egg differences you will find:

  • Bigger in size
  • Tougher, thicker shell
  • The membrane of the egg is slightly thicker
  • More albumen in the egg. Baking? Your treats will be fluffy and lighter and have more lift.

The list above gives pretty noticeable differences, but if you can get past their shell, you will find out that the duck egg is indeed quite good and has a very rich flavor!

Where Can You Sell Your Eggs

You need to know who your potential customers are.If you have a small amount of eggs to sell weekly, the customer base may just be friends and family. If you have a neighbor who is a bit iffy about having hens next door, bribery usually works so donate them some eggs once every couple of weeks. They may decide that the eggs and hens arent so bad after all and start to buy from you! But, if;you have more eggs to sell, you will need to start looking further afield.Check around your area to see where you may be able to sell to.Camp grounds, local farm stores, farmers markets are all good places to start your sales pitch. Remember, if you sell beyond the farm gate you will generally need a license. However, if the owner of the campground comes to you you will not need a license! In my experience though, the best advertising is of course word of mouth. If your eggs are tasty, reasonably priced and local, you will probably have more customers than eggs, especially in the winter months.

Fertilization And Embryo Transfer For The Recipient

The retrieved eggs are fertilized with partner’s or a donor’s sperm. This part of the process is the same as IVF. If using fresh sperm, the partner will need to visit CHR to produce a sample at this time. The embryos that result from this fertilization are incubated and graded. Normally, embryos are transferred into the recipient’s uterus on day 3 after donor egg retrieval . For our recipients working with our center’s egg donor program from outside the NYC metro area, this is the only time they need to be in NYC for the entire cycle. The rest can be managed locally.

What Do Egg Donors Get Paid

Should young women sell their eggs?

Egg donation is a commitment unlike any other, and we honor that pledge through compensation. With each egg donation cycle, you can earn anywhere between $9,000 and $15,000 or more. So, in addition to the lifelong joy you’ll experience from making a family’s dream come true, you’ll be able to put money toward making your very own dreams a reality, too.

Many egg donors go on to donate their eggs more than once. Experienced egg donors can earn an additional $1,000 or more with every egg donation they complete.

Are There Other Legal And Financial Considerations

Contracts: You may be asked to sign one or more contracts with the recipient. IVF1 does not require egg donors or egg recipients to sign outside legal contracts. Egg donors will sign a document stating that from the time the eggs are removed from her ovaries that they become the property of the recipient couple.

Confidentiality: During this process, we will gather a great deal of information about you from your application and throughout the screening process. This information will be given to potential recipients of your eggs. If you are donating anonymously, the recipient will not be given your name or any information that can be used to identify you. You can obtain copies of any of your medical information. This can be done directly through the patient portal on our website. Alternatively, you can fill out a document called a record release form to receive a printed copy of your medical records. This process is the same as for any patient.

Currently, there are no laws in Illinois that require disclosure of the identity of an egg donor for any reason. However, it is possible that confidentiality laws and regulations may change in the future. For example, there are currently attempts underway to pass laws to allow children who were given up for adoption to obtain their birth certificates. In addition, we cannot guarantee that someone will not discover confidential information by unauthorized means.

Signing On The Dotted Line: Legal Considerations

An essential part of egg donation is signing legal agreements. In many cases, the clinic or agency will have a lawyer representing their side, but they may or may not mention that you have the option of hiring your own lawyer.

Its highly recommended that you hire your own lawyer to protect your interests, and have that lawyer carefully review the contract before you sign. This is something youll likely need to pay for yourself, but its worth the expense.

Questions and issues that should be addressed in your contract include :

  • What legal rights or duties do you have in regards to any child that results from your egg donation? .
  • How much compensation will you receive?
  • How will that money be held and at what points will it be distributed during the egg donation process?
  • What happens if the cycle is canceled?A cancellation can happen because of medical reasons and may occur up to the day of the egg retrieval.
  • Who has final say over what happens to any cryopreserved eggs not used, or the embryos that result from the eggs?
  • What happens to any unused embryos? The intended parents may choose to keep them cryopreserved, have more children, donate them to research, or have them disposed of. You may have some limited say over what happens to unused embryos in the contract.
  • What contact, if any, will the donor and family have before, during, and after the donation process?
  • Who is responsible for the egg donors medical expenses that are not covered by health insurance?
  • How Are Potential Donors Screened

The screening of recruited donors is a comprehensive, multi-step process. Donors undergo an examination of past medical, genetic, ancestral, social, educational, and reproductive histories, as well as infectious disease screening. Recruited donors also receive consultations by Columbia Fertilitys donor-program physician and undergo complete physicals and a psychosocial evaluation. Donors who have been matched to recipients and are accepted for oocyte donation undergo additional testing as required by the New York State Department of Health. These tests include blood tests for HIV, HTLV, syphilis, a hepatitis panel, drug toxicology, and blood type. The donor also undergoes genetic screening, along with a Pap smear and cervical cultures for gonorrhea and chlamydia.

Known donors who do not come from the Columbia University Fertility Center’s donor registry but are chosen by the patients, such as a friend or relative, must still be cleared through the same comprehensive screening process.

Endometrial Lining Development For The Donor Egg Recipient

On the recipient’s side, a favorable uterine environment, especially an endometrium of at least 7 mm, is crucial in the success of a donor egg cycle. While the egg donor develops eggs for retrieval, the recipient takes estrogen and progesterone to prepare her endometrial lining for implantation. Developing the endometrium for embryo transfer is usually not a problem.

In rare cases, some patients have difficulties in reaching minimal endometrial thickness and may require special treatments. Fortunately, CHR has demonstrated;special expertise in this area. Some patients with autoimmune abnormalities may use additional medications to improve the chance of implantation.

What To Expect: Risks & Side Effects

So, now you know what being an egg donor entails, what the requirements are, and the places where you can get paid to donate eggs.

Unfortunately, there are some risks and side effects involved. But thats really beyond the scope of this post.

Just to give you an idea of what to expect here are a few other things you should expect:

Lots of visits to the doctors

Since you have to be monitored while taking injections and undergo screening tests, like blood work and ultrasounds, expect a lot of visits to your doctors office.

Side effects of the Ovulation Suppressants

Since you have to administer injections that will suppress your bodys natural cycle, you could experience side effects, like:

    • Hot flashes
    • Body aches
    • Breast tenderness

Of course, not everyone will experience these symptoms. Make sure you ask your doctor to outline the side effects of the injections for you.

Side Effects of the Ovary Stimulation Medication

You also have to administer injections that stimulate the ovaries.

This can also, in some people, have side effects, like:

    • Mood swings
    • Mild fluid retention
    • Enlarged ovaries

Occasionally, Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome or OHSS can occur. This is when the ovaries become too stimulated.

Your doctor will monitor you the whole way through though, and if you do develop OHSS, youll be put on bed rest and be given pain medication.

Can I Donate Eggs More Than Once

    Will There Be Compensation

This Is How You Get the Best Scrambled Eggs

After egg retrieval donors will receive $8500 to compensate for their time and effort. This compensation is reported to the IRS as taxable income.
