The internet connectivity on older tech devices and smart gadgets could stop working on Thursday after a key digital certificate required to access websites safely expires. Let’s Encrypt, a nonprofit organization that is the largest issuer of digital certificates which encrypts and protects the connection between devices and websites on the internet will be forced to expire one of its most popular digital certificates, the IdentTrust DST Root CA X3, on Sept. 30. This means several phones, computers, video game consoles, smart gadgets, and “Internet of Things” devices bought before 2017 that use the Let’s Encrypt digital certificate in question, and haven’t updated their software since then, could face significant issues connecting to the internet.

What To Know If Youre New To Watchmen

Watchmen is set in an alternate world in which certain historical events have played out a little differently than they did in reality.

In this world, the rise of superheroes helped the U.S. win the Vietnam War, and Richard Nixon never faced impeachment. In fact, he became so popular that the 22nd Amendment was repealed; he was still president in 1985, when the U.S. was on the brink of nuclear war with the Soviet Union.

Despite the existence of superheroes and superhero teams, most of these individuals did not have superhuman abilities. They were mainly people who wore costumes and fought crime. But by 1977, these heroes were so unpopular with the police and the public that Sen. Joe Keene was able to pass legislation outlawing masked vigilantes.

Some became government agents. Many retired. Others remained active despite the law. One, Rorschach a central figure in the comic book series is the main holdout among the vigilantes after it becomes illegal; he became increasingly violent over the years.

One person who does have powers is Doctor Manhattan. He gained his abilities after a lab mishap that tore his atoms apart. Among the repercussions of the incident is that he experiences time in a nonlinear fashion.

In 1985, Adrian Veidt helped de-escalate the tensions between the U.S. and the Soviet Union by faking an alien invasion in New York that killed millions of people .

Kansas City Hospital Mandated Covid Shots For Employees Heres How Many Left Instead

Thirty-nine employees of Truman Medical Centers/University Health have resigned rather than comply with the health system’s new COVID-19 vaccination mandate amounting to less than 1% of workers there, hospital officials said Tuesday. In July, Truman was the first hospital in the Kansas City area to require employee vaccinations. It gave approximately 5,000 workers until Sept. 20 to get vaccinated or find employment elsewhere.

New York Post Chimp Cartoon Compares Stimulus Author To Dead Primate

A cartoon likening the author of the stimulus bill, perhaps President Barack Obama, with a rabid chimpanzee graced the pages of the New York Post on Wednesday.

The drawing, from famed cartoonist Sean Delonas, is rife with violent imagery and racial undertones. In it, two befuddled-looking police officers holding guns look over the dead and bleeding chimpanzee that attacked a woman in Stamford, Connecticut.

“They’ll have to find someone else to write the next stimulus bill,” reads the caption.

An email to Delonas and a call to the New York Post went unreturned. The cartoon appears both on the New York Post website and page 12 of the Wednesday paper.

At its most benign, the cartoon suggests that the stimulus bill was so bad, monkeys may as well have written it. Others believe it compares the president to a rabid chimp. Either way, the incorporation of violence and race into politics is bound to be controversial. Perhaps that’s what Delonas wanted.

UPDATE: Rev. Al Sharpton has weighed in on the cartoon in a statement:

UPDATE II: The New York Post has released a statement defending its cartoon and slamming Al Sharpton. Read it here.

Pretty much the same as the comics section, except you might not understand the squid jokes.

That is to say, Snyders adaptation was fairly faithful to the plot of the comic book series, even if it missed some of the nuance by being a bit too enamored with the source material.

Of course, if youve seen the film which put Doctor Manhattans glowing blue penis on the big screen youre more than prepared for just about anything HBO can throw at you.

    New York Times V Sullivan

The paper’s involvement in a 1964 libel case helped bring one of the key United States Supreme Court decisions supporting freedom of the press, New York Times Co. v. Sullivan. In it, the United States Supreme Court established the “actual malice” standard for press reports about public officials or public figures to be considered defamatory or libelous. The malice standard requires the plaintiff in a defamation or libel case to prove the publisher of the statement knew the statement was false or acted in reckless disregard of its truth or falsity. Because of the high burden of proof on the plaintiff, and difficulty proving malicious intent, such cases by public figures rarely succeed.

The New York Times Is Launching A Monthly Section For Kids

The New York Times announced Thursday that it will launch a monthly section for kids in its print newspaper.

The Kids section will accompany the Nov. 19 edition of the newspaper and then run monthly beginning Jan. 28, 2018. Under the leadership of The New York Times Magazines special projects editor Caitlin Roper, it will feature news, illustrations, photography and how-tos geared toward young readers.

The news topics will be similar to those traditionally featured in The New York Times, from national news and sports to food and arts to opinion.

This announcement comes nearly six months after the outlet included a special childrens section for young readers in its May 14, 2017 edition. According to a press release, that issue was so well-received, it sparked an online petition for a permanent kid-friendly section and led to the decision to make it a monthly feature.

Were extremely excited to launch a section of The New York Times for kids, Jake Silverstein, editor in chief of The New York Times Magazine, stated in the press release. Who says children dont need news thats made just for them? Our goal here is not only to help kids learn about the complex world they live in, but also to give them a taste, through a section designed just for them, of the pleasures of print media. Well treat the readers of this section the same way we treat all our readers: with respect.

Donald Trumpâs Worst Nightmare | NYT Opinion – Trump Bites

The TV series is set in the same world introduced in the Watchmen comics. All the things that happened in the 1985-set comics are historical events within the 2019-set show.

This means it has been more than 30 years since the fake alien squid attack that destroyed New York and saved the world from nuclear annihilation.

Characters who will be familiar include Laurie Jupiter/Juspeczyk, who now goes by Laurie Blake , and Adrian Veidt, a.k.a. Ozymandias . Doctor Manhattans presence can also be felt, though hes not central to the action in the seasons first half.

Rorschach is still dead, but his legacy lives on in the form of a terrorist white supremacist group that wears his mask.

Its still a world in which being a masked vigilante is illegal, unless youre working for a government agency like the police in Tulsa, Okla., where most of the series is set.

That Laurie now works as an FBI agent who specializes in taking down masked vigilantes is not as surprising as that shes now using her biological fathers name.

The series includes plenty of references that will be recognizable to Watchmen fans, including thermodynamic miracles, familiar-looking gadgets and vehicles, a TV series about the Minutemen and even the name of a certain senator.

There are even certain shots in Lindelofs adaptation that replicate panels from the comic book.

MANILA – China has opposed a Philippines-led push for a review of its 70-year-old defence treaty with the United States, Manila’s defence minister said on Thursday, concerned that it could be seen in Beijing as an effort to contain its rise. At an event to mark the MDT’s 70th anniversary, Defence Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said he had been urged by a former Chinese diplomat to back off.
