Is Warwick Ny A Good Place To Live
I grew up surrounded by black dirt fields, apple orchards and farmers markets on the weekends. Who knew all of the above could be a mere 50 miles from the craziness of the urban jungle, New York City?
The town has an influx of people who moved up from NYC and possibly still commute there for work. Most people own their homes and the average income for the town of Warwick is about $80,000.
My high school had one of the top cross country teams in the county, plenty of school spirit and a variety of art classes on offer. I spent weekends going to the drive in movies, playing sand volleyball in the park or laying out at Wawayanda Lake. Honestly, they could have literally filmed Friday Night lights in Warwick. Dont get me wrong, Warwick isnt perfect, but theres no other community I would have rather spent my younger yearsexcept for maybe in a California beach town!

Getting There And Getting Around From Nyc
Since Warwick is a suburb, a car is certainly the best way to see it. It is not an urban place with amazing public transportation throughout the area. Youll want to be able to drive to the wineries, orchards and other hamlets, towns or activities in the countryside. There are limited taxis and Ubers, but if you dont have access to a car here is how to get there.

Florida Restaurants And Cafes
- Eating at Frogs Tavern is a sneaky way to check out the Glenmere, an Italian style mansion, without paying an arm and a leg. The tavern is way more affordable than their fine dining restaurant, which Id recommend for a special occasion. Call ahead for reservations, as they wont let you up to the property with out one.
- I love Central Deli for its sandwiches and more. Try the HOBO breakfast sandwich that will keep you full all day.

Warwick Ny: A Hudson Valley Town Thats Under The Radar
The Orange County community may lack the cool factor of other parts of the Hudson Valley, but residents are fine with that.

To understand the appeal of Warwick, N.Y., an expansive town northwest of New York City, duck into an alley off Main Street called Carriage Path.
At its end is a small bridge with a revealing view of Wawayanda Creek. As the water bubbles along, it laps against the backs of brick buildings on one bank, and on the other, just a few feet away, spills around a line of shade-producing trees. Nature and civilization seem to live side by side in harmony.
The 101-square-mile town, where open fields nuzzle lively villages, has a Goldilocks quality, residents say. Its not exactly in the middle of nowhere, nor is it overdeveloped its just right.
I always felt like I would not fit in the suburbs, but I do here, said Marilina Rufino, 47, an Argentine immigrant and a single mother to a 10-year-old daughter, who relocated from the East Village last year. For $260,000, Ms. Rufino, a psychologist, snagged a three-bedroom 1880 house with strawberry plants. Once you realize you can get more space for less money, the decision is a no-brainer.
But economics is only part of it. What convinced Ms. Rufino to move to Warwick last year fears about the rowdiness of people suddenly huddled on her city block is tied to what has sent so many New Yorkers packing: the Covid crisis.

History Of The Village Of Warwick
Warwick has been under human occupation for at least twelve thousand years though cohesive and relatively permanent communities of Indians probably did not appear until about two thousand years ago. They liked this area because of plentiful springs of fresh water and the proximity of the Wawayanda Creek which teemed with fish and fowl. The area was remarkably free of infectious diseases and though the quantity of food was small its variety was seemingly endless.

Where To Shop In Warwick
Most of the boutiques and individual shops that make Warwick a shopping treat are set along the center strip of Main Street. Youll find home furnishings, gourmet treats, clothing, jewelry, and even an old-fashioned drugstore. Here are a few highlights, but leave time to leisurely stroll the town and poke your head into the shops.
Spend A Day At An Orchard
Fall harvest time gives the Warwick Valley an idyllic, apple-tinted glow. The Warwick Valley Apple Trail offers pick-your-own fruit under leafy bowers, pumpkin patches, hayrides, hot cider donuts and cider, and often live music and performances, too. If you dont mind a long stroll on a hilly orchard, Ochs is one of my favorites for straight-up apple picking from towering branches. If youd rather take a hayride to the apples, pick a few, and then have a snack and pet baby animals, Applewood Winery is an easy choice, and they also have a tasting room for their well-known hard cider.

Catch A Movie Under The Stars At The Warwick Drive
Built in 1950, theres a wonderful sense of nostalgia to seeing a movie on one of the three screens at the Warwick Drive-In. In the fall, hit the dugout-style concession stand for hot chocolate and tubs of popcorn, then snuggle up under blankets outside or in your car. Its less about the film on the screen than the experience of sitting out under the stars, but they do get first-run movies here, and theres one modern update: You can listen on your car radio instead of having a speaker that you attach to your window.

Today Our Village Is One Of The Few In The State That Can Boast Of Surviving The Mall
Sedentary farming came very late, not that long before the appearance of European trappers and hunters in the 1650s or so. Population density increased but remained extremely low. Hunting and gathering practices remained predominant.
When whites began to settle permanently in the area, after 1703 when a land patent, called Wawayanda, was signed with the local Minsi Indians, the largest aboriginal village was Mistucky. In 1719 Benjamin Aske purchased a small portion of the patent and established a farm, called Warwick, from which the present village soon took its name. In the 1730s, the ancient Wawayanda Path was transformed into a colonial Kings Highway and the area was opened up to white settlement. In 1749 a Colonel Beardsly bought land along the Wawayanda Creek from Aske and began to subdivide it. By 1770, the Indians had left and Warwick village was emerging as a provisioning, social and religious center for surrounding farming families. It would boast several famous inns and eateries, notably Bards Tavern and the Wayanda Hotel.
Today, our village is one of the few in the state that can boast of surviving the mall-mania of the 1980s and 90s and maintaining the integrity and commercial vitality of its central business district. The village can be proud of its many public and privately-supported parks, museums, galleries, hospital, community center, housing for the elderly, and other amenities.
