Magic Hour Rooftop Bar And Lounge

Open for brunch on Saturday and Sunday from 11.30am 3pm, this indoor and outdoor rooftop is 18 floors above the city.

Magic Hour has five distinct areas including two outdoor areas: the east side overlooks the the Empire State Building with garden party furnishings.

On the west side its like a carnival with a rotating seating area like an antique carousel. The gallery-like entrance is a little risqué with topiary animals caught in naughty positions!

Youll also find a menu of light bites inspired by the state fair with modern takes on things like curly fries and lobster rolls. Plus an impressive list of decadent and sharable cocktails, along with beer, wine, Champagne, and spirits.

Power Lunch Abc Kitchen

The fact that Jean-Georges Vongerichtens ABC Kitchen isnt in midtown could make the restaurant seem a strange power-lunch contender. But making suit-clad bigwigs travel the distance to jockey for a table simply ups the standing for this Union Square farm-to-table favorite. Since opening in 2010, it has been among the toughest reservations in town, packed at lunch, brunch and dinner with diners thrilling over vegetable-driven dishes that look as beautiful as if theyd been assembled by artists featured in the attached ABC Carpet & Home store. The roast-carrot-and-avocado salad is deserving of its cult status, as are jalapeno-topped crab toast and every single vegetable side. Opt for the prix-fixe lunch to coerce yourself into ending with the signature dessert: a salted-caramel ice cream sundae topped with popcorn, candied peanuts, fluffy peaks of whipped cream and bittersweet chocolate sauce. Look around, because the odds are good that a few celebrities and business moguls are diving in too.

Jg Melon Is My Favorite Preppy Place On The Upper East Side

J.G. Melon is an Upper East Side staple that has been serving straightforward food and a gold-medal worthy Bloody Mary for 50 years.

The jukebox, dark wood bar, white-and-green checked table cloths, and cash-only policy feels frozen in time, but what I like about eating here is that its the antithesis of ostentatious, driving home the point that sometimes simple is best.

Must try: Served on a plain bun with pickle chips and thin-sliced red onion as accoutrements, the burgers crusty exterior hides a pool of rosy juices that are released on the first bite and necessitate multiple napkins. Ruffle-cut cottage fries are the obvious side.

Price: Moderate

Gargiulos has been a bastion of Neapolitan cooking for over 100 years. In the old country, Naples is a gastronomic powerhouse noted for its glorious produce and durum wheat pasta cooked molto al dente.

Gargiulos menu is an ode to the motherland, weaving eggplant, zucchini, and broccoli di rape into firm pasta in a setting lifted from a Scorsese movie.

Must try: Spaghetti in a simple tomato sauce with a windfall of freshly-grated Parmigiano Reggiano.

Price: Moderate to expensive

You Can Find Me At Absolute Bagels On The Upper West Side At Least Once A Week

Nothing says New York like bagels, and this is my local neighborhood spot for the circular, doughy delights.

Boiled in Big Apple tap water before going into the oven, the dense, tender bagel with a chewy crust at Absolute comes pretty close to the platonic ideal.

Expect a long line of students from nearby Columbia University and loyal suburbanites who double-park their cars out front, and know that its cash only.

Must try: Whichever bagel is hot from the oven.

Pizza And A Burger: Emily

This couple-owned Clinton Hill pizzeria was destination-worthy for its pies alone, which are available with red sauce try Colony, topped with sauce, mozz, pepperoni, honey and pickled jalapeno vodka-sauced pink pies, tomatillo-topped green pies and classic white pies. But the restaurant upped its own ante unleashing the Emmy Burger, a towering combo of dry-aged beef, house sauce, caramelized onions, cheddar and cornichons on a pretzel bun. Dinner + A Show Danji

Though Times Square itself is a bastion of neon signage and meandering tourists, slightly north and west of the mayhem is this 36-seat Korean haven. Chef Hooni Kim serves inventive Korean dishes that are ideal for after-theater snacks or full dinner. The restaurant, open until midnight on weeknights serves bulgogi beef sliders, garlicky wings, kimchi fried rice and plenty of vegetarian options. The bar mixes clever cocktails, but the slightly sweet unfiltered rice beer is the best pairing against the spices.

Bodega 88 Has A Menu Of Spicy Nibbles On The Upper West Side

At first glance, it seems like this sports bars main attraction is the Yankee game on television.

And while I do come here to watch sports, I look past the multiple screens straight into the compact kitchen, which is the heart of Bodega 88.

Us local gastronomes come here to tuck into Dominican, Cuban, Argentinian, and other Latin-style nibbles, from pernil to tostones. These bites have powerful flavors that stand up to the strong margaritas and fruity sangria.

Must try: The pulled pork sliders boast a tender mound of meat doused in a sticky guava barbecue sauce.
