New York City Fire Museum
The Fire Museum of New York is located in a former fire station. Located on the border of Hudson Square and Soho, you cant miss it, as you can see from the pictures! On three floors the beginnings of the fire department in New York are shown, starting with small medals, stories and anecdotes up to whole fire engines.
In addition, there is a small but touching exhibition about 9/11, because this fire station also lost many firefighters.
The New York Transit museum focuses on the history and the development of public transportation in NYC. The museum covers and explores everything from the construction of the subway lines to the history of the bus systems in the city. Its one of the oldest public transportation systems in the world. Here, visitors will get to explore the different train models that the city used and is a great experience for families with kids. Of course, there are great photo opportunities as well.
The museum was built for the Worlds Fair in 1939 and exhibits The Panaroma which is a large scale model of New York City and its five neighborhoods. Many of the exhibits are documents related to the Worlds Fair. Over the years, Queens Museum has housed some of the most supreme exhibitions in all of New York.
You’ll Need Hours At The Corning Museum Of Glass
The one thing that shocked me the most about the Corning Museum of Glass was not its size, we knew it was huge, but that we would need a full day to visit. The museum has so much going on, from hundreds of display pieces to hours upon hours of live sessions, you truly could visit this museum for a full day and only just begin to experience it all.
The one nice thing about this is that your ticket to the museum is actually valid for two days, so if you wanted to visit the museum one day and then head up to Seneca Lake in the afternoon for wine tasting, you don’t have to feel too conflicted as you can go back for more the next day.
Unfortunately for us, we were busy on our second day and missed out on going back to watch more from the artist-in-residence in the arena and the other demonstrations we missed.
Luckily, we’re already planning our return visit.

Christian Dior: Designer Of Dreams Brooklyn Museum
Through Sunday, February 20, 2022This expansive and breathtaking exhibition traces the groundbreaking history and legacy of fashion designer Christian Dior featuring more than 200 haute couture gowns as well as photographs, archival videos, sketches, vintage perfume elements, accessories, and works from the museums collection. The exhibition also showcases Dior’s many sources of inspirationfrom the splendor of flowers and other natural forms to classical and contemporary art. The collections of each of the artistic directors who succeeded Dior are highlighted in the galleries.

The Museum Of Modern Art Aka Moma
If contemporary modern art is your thing, then look no further than MOMA, The Museum of Modern Art. MOMA was founded in 1929 as an educational institute and it is dedicated to being the foremost museum of modern art in the world. Current exhibitions include Endless House, which focuses on the relationship between art and architecture, Yoko Onos One Woman Show, and Scorcese Screens, which illuminates the conjunction of graphic and cinematic influences that shaped Martin Scorseses aesthetic, and are all in 35mm. National Museum Of The American Indian
The Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian is home to over a million works and documents concerning Native American peoples and their customs. Much of the collection, most of which is in storage at any given time, was acquired by George Gustav Heye. The museum is housed in the neoclassical Alexander Hamilton Customs House. Exhibits change frequently.
The museum also hosts numerous public programs including music and dance performances, films, and symposia. It works closely with Native Peoples to preserve and protect their cultures traditions and expressions.

The Arts Of Buddhism At The Brooklyn Museum
As of January 21, the Brooklyn Museum will have a new gallery dedicated to the Arts of Buddhism collection. It’ll juxtapose artwork with nearly 70 objects from 14 countries dating from the second century C.E. to the early 2000s. Many of the works on display will be sculptural depictions of Buddhas and other enlightened figures, as well as ritual tools and ornaments made for use in Buddhist temples and a small selection of paintings. Among the objects newly on view are several of the Museums masterpieces, including a rare eighth-century image of the goddess Tara from Odisha, India a Chinese silver reliquary dedicated by a Buddhist monk and his mother and a gilt-bronze seated Buddha from southern China. There are also at least nineteen objects that have never before been on display at the museum. In addition, as part of the inaugural installation of the gallery, a pair of important Japanese mandala paintings, dating to the fourteenth century, will be on view for the first time in twenty-five years.

Through Sunday, January 2, 2022In the aftermath of the attacks on 9/11, hundreds of search and rescues dogs worked with the emergency crew to find any signs of life amidst the rubble. On the heels of the 20th anniversary of the attacks, two new museum exhibits focus on those dogs. At the American Kennel Club’s Museum of the Dog, there’s an exhibit titled 9/11 Remembered: Search & Rescue Dogs, that not only honors 9/11 search and rescue dogs but dogs who worked at other disasters around the world. There’s also another exhibit at the 9/11 Memorial & Museum in Lower Manhattan, K-9 Courage, which features the photographer Charlotte Dumas portraits of 15 of the dogs who aided in recovery efforts at ground zero.

The Met Cloisters: Best For Medieval Art
For medieval history buffs, the Met Cloisters fondly referred to simply as The Cloisters is a unique treat. Museum Of The City Of New York
The Museum of the City of New York , a history and art museum in Manhattan, was founded in 1923 by Henry Collins Brown. The museum was originally housed in Gracie Mansion, the official residence of the Mayor of New York City. MCNYs current home on Fifth Avenue was completed in 1932.
This top New York museums collection contains approximately 750,000 objects, including prints, photographs, decorative arts, costumes, sculptures, toys and paintings.

The Obama Portraits Tour Brooklyn Museum
Through Sunday, October 24Don’t miss out on viewing the official portraits of President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama painted by Kehinde Wiley and Amy Sherald, respectively. First unveiled at the Smithsonians National Portrait Gallery, Washington, D.C., in February 2018, the official portraits of the Obamas have become iconic. The Obama Portraits Tour is accompanied by a richly illustrated book published by National Portrait Gallery.
Multiple Ways To Learn About Glass Making
One of my favorite features of the Corning Museum of Glass is the multiple ways you can learn about the glass making process first hand- taking this museum from a collection of gorgeous and historical glass pieces to a premier attraction in the state.
The first experience is at the small-scale the demo stage where you can watch a brief, twenty-minute presentations on how simple glass pieces are made. The on-site artist makes the piece in rapid fire while a staff member narrates the glass making process. We’d be happy if this is all that was available, but the museum offers more than small demos like this one .
The working arena offers a look into larger scale glass production, and here a team of artists puts on larger themed shows, instructional presentations, and, in the off-season, works to assist artists-in-residence who are designing pieces for their next show. Our visit coincided with the latter, and we got to witness part of a week-long takeover of the arena where the artist’s vision for new and unique glass works came to life. This wasn’t a choreographed show full of instructional how-to’s or cheesy gimmicks. No, this was an artist actually making pieces for a show right in-front of our eyes. My only regret was that we couldn’t stay longer to enjoy this one, as this was something we could’ve spent all week enjoying.

What To See At The Met In 2 Hours
There are so many things to do in New York City that we could only devote an afternoon to the museum on our October visit to the Big Apple.
We did our best and managed to at least take in some key Met paintings, exhibits and masterpieces on our 3-hour visit.

Notorious Rbg: The Life And Times Of Ruth Bader Ginsburg New
Friday, October 1, 2021-Friday, January 23, 2022The New-York Historical Society honors the late Ruth Bader Ginsburg with a special exhibition based on the popular Tumblr and bestselling book of the same name. The exhibition takes an expansive look at RBG’s life and work through archival photographs and documents, historical artifacts, contemporary art, media stations, and gallery interactives. Highlights include a robe and lace collar from RBGs Supreme Court wardrobe the official portraits of RBG and Sandra Day OConnor, and listening stations where visitors can hear RBGs delivery of oral arguments long before she sat on the court, plus her opinions, and forceful dissents.

The Fortune Teller Georges De La Tour
This notable painting by French Baroque artist, Georges de la Tour, caught our eye.
It shows a wealthy young man getting robbed by three thieves, as an old gypsy woman tells his fortune.
Its celebrated probably in part because of the paintings mysterious discovery some 80 years ago.
The story goes that a French prisoner-of-war, who was reminded of an old painting at his uncles castle, had a priest examine the painting after the war. It was confirmed to be a genuine La Tour.
An art dealer then bought the painting in 1949 the Met acquired it in 1960.
Morgan Library & Museum
Acting as both a museum and a scholarly research center, this wonderful institution was opened in 1906 to protect and preserve J.P. Morgans private collection. The architecture of the place is stunning, with the library being a particular highlight with its lavish ornamentation and painted ceilings it houses some amazing old manuscripts.
Also on show are some drawings and prints by renowned names such as Michelangelo, Raphael, and Leonardo da Vinci. Regular temporary exhibitions mean that both locals and tourists can return to the museum time and time again to enjoy all that it has to offer.

Bonus: Rooftop Garden Caf
This rooftop garden isnt entirely a work of art, but its pretty enough of a view to treat it as such! Only accessible by a single elevator on the fifth floor in the middle of the European Sculpture and Decorative Arts gallery in the summer and fall seasons, the Mets Rooftop Garden Café and Martini Bar is quite the hidden gem in the city. It offers some of the best views of Manhattans skyline with Central Parks foliage in the foreground and often has on display unique contemporary art installations . Grab a drink and end your day off watching the sunset behind NYCs tallest buildings!
The Whitney Museum And Frick Collection
Not located on museum mile, the Whitney Museum of Art and Frick Collection are worth a visit. The Whitney Museum houses many works of art from neglected American artists, including works by Edward Hopper and Georgia OKeefe. The Frick Collection houses many European masters in an intimate atmosphere. Works by Rembrandt, Holbein, El Greco, and Goya are highlights.
The Whitney Museum of American Art, known as the the Whitney, is an art museum with a focus on 20th and 21st-century American art. Whitneys avant-garde permanent collection contains more than 18,000 works in a wide variety of media. The Whitney has always placed a particular emphasis on exhibiting the work of living artists for its collection as well as maintaining an extensive permanent collection containing many important pieces from the first half of the century. The museums Annual and Biennial exhibitions have long been a showcase for younger and less well-known artists.
The Whitney is housed Marcel Breuers unique structure on Madison Avenue and is considered probably the greatest collection of 20th Century American Art. The Museum hosts renowned works of Edward Hopper and Georgia OKeefe as well as works of Alexander Calder and George Seagal.
