Some trains on the Northeast Corridor and North Jersey Coast Line lines stop at Newark Liberty International Airport Station. Look for an airplane icon or “EWR” on the departure boards. Not all trains on these lines stop at the airport, so double-check.
Buy a ticket at a vending machine or ticket counter. Keep track of your ticket during your ride because you’ll use it again to get on the AirTrain.
When you arrive at Newark International Airport Station, follow signs for the AirTrain.
So How Do You Get From Newark To Nyc By Train
Take note: This a three-step process:
- The Newark airport AirTrain
- Transfer at the Newark Liberty International Airport stop
- Take an NJ Transit train to New York Penn Station
FIRST: Stop at the NJ Transit kiosks at the AirTrain locations inside the airport terminals to purchase your ticket to NY Penn Station . The kiosks take cash and credit cards and are easy to use.
SECOND: Board the AirTrain and head toward the Newark Liberty International Airport stop, which is close to Terminal C, just after the P4 Parking Lot stop.

These are great teaching tools for kids they need to know how to read and follow signs, how to use kiosks, how to guide themselves around train platforms, and how to navigate system interchanges such as the Newark Liberty International Airport stop.
One terrific part of the AirTrain system is that there are uniformed personnel on every platform and at the entry to the NJ Transit system. These friendly folks communicate with passengers, direct people to the right platform, and help them navigate to the elevators and escalators. You really cant get lost, and youll always have someone to ask. Plus there are lighted signs, maps, monitors, and plenty of other visual helps.

Things To Keep In Mind:
- Accept the fact it takes a few steps its not beep-beep-boop on your iPhone and then going out to meet your personal driver.
- There are snacks and vending machines at AirTrains Newark Liberty International Airport station, and there is an indoor, heated waiting room on the NJ Transit platform for Track A, with restrooms.
- HOLD ON TO YOUR TICKET. You will need it to get into the NJ Transit system AND will need to show it to the NJ Transit conductor on the NJ Transit train.
- We had plenty of space in the overhead racks on NJ Transit for our luggage.
- You will end up at NY Penn station, so youll need to be prepared to walk, take the subway system, or grab a cab to your destination within the city. We took a Via ride-share to our hotel.
- NJ Transit trains run seven days a week from 5 am to 2 am, but there is NO SERVICE during the three wee hours of the morn.

Follow the signs to Tracks 1 / A, where you will go downstairs and take the first NJ Transit train you see. Some Amtrak trains also stop there, so make sure youre on an NJ Transit train to get from Newark to Manhattan, or youll have to pay the Amtrak fare. Unless you are trying to go from Newark Airport to Manhattan in the middle of the night , there will be a ton of other passengers just follow the crowds. :-).
You will take the train for about 3 to 5 stations. The first one is NEWARK Penn Station that is NOT the same as New York Penn Station, so dont get off there! The train that goes from Newark Airport to Manhattan ends at New York Penn Station , so really, you just have to wait till it ends. Again, thats where most passengers will be getting off, so its a good policy to just follow the crowd.
Once youre at Penn Station, follow the signs to the street, and youll pop out in the middle of Manhattan between 7th and 8th Avenues and 31st and 33rd streets! You can then take a taxi, Uber or Lyft, or the subway or even walk to your final destination.

What Is The Cheapest Way To Get From Newark Airport To Manhattan
Trains provided by NJ Transit from Newark Airport into Manhattan are the cheapest method for getting into New York. How Are Jfks Airport Amenities
Honestly, who cares about airport amenities? I mean, really? Either youre some kind of diamond-ultra-plus-extra airport lounge member or youre just another jetlagged, bleary-eyed transit hobo searching for an outlet. And youre probably wearing UGG boots. And no one in New York cares.
If youre at JFK super late, Terminal 1 has 2- hour dining options. So thats cool. And Boingo offers complimentary wi-fi which basically means nothing.
Once youre through the terminal, all NYC airports are basically the same. They have food, coffee, alcohol, overpriced Bluetooth headphones, Dan Brown novels, and Annies Pretzels. There are always pretzels. And if you didnt get your I Heart NY t-shirt theyre a bargain at $38 a pop.

Hop On To A Newark Airport Bus
You can find several express buses that go from EWR to Manhattan and the other way around. The Newark Airport Express is one such bus. It picks up passengers at each terminal and drops them off at Times Square, Bryant Park, or Grand Central Terminal. It is not the cheapest way to get to Manhattan . Still, the several stops mean you can get dropped off pretty close to where you need to go in Manhattan. A one-way ticket on this Newark Airport Express costs around $18.50 for an adult.
How Do You Get To And From Newark Airport By Subway Or Bus
The one exception to my Newark hate is the Newark Airport Express shuttle bus, which is the best way to get from Newark to Manhattan. This marvel of janky bus travel once got me from Penn Station to my terminal at Newark in 17 minutes. I know that sounds impossible, and it isbut it happened.
The express bus costs $18 and runs from 4:45am 2am . It stops at Port Authority, Grand Central, and Bryant Park and doesnt stop anywhere else. If you like that bus from Harry Potter, youll love the Newark Airport Express.

Easiest Travel From Newark Airport To Manhattan
I think taxi or town car would be the easiest. A reserved town car would be around $60 plus tolls and tip at this popular New York City Car Service.
Note: Shuttles and van services vary when it comes to taking you door to door, while a taxi or town car will take you directly to your hotel. Some of the shuttle buses will drop you off only at a central Manhattan location and from there you can walk, take the subway or hail a taxi that will likely be around $10.
Getting From Newark Liberty To Manhattan By Express Bus Or Airport Shuttle
A variety of express buses go from Newark airport to Manhattan in the $15 to $20 range. These are large buses designed for airport runs, so most of them have plenty of storage underneath the seats for luggage. Newark Airport Express is one such shuttle bus. Its $17 for a one-way ticket or $30 round-trip, and children under 5 are free. GO Airlink Shuttle is another such bus it costs $21 one-way. If you want to travel on a single public busfrom EWR to the city you cant. Thats because different transit authorities serve New York and New Jersey. NJ Transit bus lines 28, 37, 62, 67, and 107 all serve Liberty Airport.
Of course, buses also go on the road, so when going from Newark to New York City by bus, youll be subject to traffic during rush hour.
