Taughannock Falls State Park is a natural attraction centered around the waterfall of the same name. Taughannock Falls is an impressive 215-foot-tall waterfall viewable from hiking trails through the gorge and around the rim. Cayuga Lake is also part of the park and features a full-service marina with boat launches and a beach nearby.

The parks trails are popular for hiking in the summer and can be used for cross-country skiing in the colder months. The trails pass many natural skating ponds and sledding slopes for added winter fun. Campsites and cabins are available for overnight rentals.

Wall Street & Tribeca

Being the financial heart of New York City, its easy to assume that Wall Street is just stockbrokers and traders! That being said, mixing both the area around Wall Street and Tribeca, means youll get to experience one of the best areas of New York during your visit.

Once here, make sure to explore the Federal Hall in all its historic glory. Interestingly, this was actually the place that George Washington was sworn in as the very first president of the United States! It totally gives an insight into the birth of the American nation.

Plus, always make sure to visit Battery Park if youre already at the tip of Manhattan. It played a vital role in being the first immigrant depot for people arriving at the newly founded republic. Also, its also a perfect place to jump on one of the ferries to visit the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, too.

For a great place to stay, check into the Roxy. We stayed here on our last visit to New York and totally loved it. Theyve also got the coolest jazz club in their basement and its a great place to spend an evening.

If youre hungry, check out Two Hands for brunch. We visited here a few times and the food is always so good! Its a great place to start your day before exploring the rest of Tribeca and the area around Walla Street.

If its lunch youre after, pop into Bubbys who conjure up some tasty treats and some epic spiked lemonade, too.

South Street Ferry Statue Of Liberty Ferry

The Staten Island, or South Street, ferry is a great way to get a sweet look at Downtown Manhattan, and even a nice peak at the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. The ferry takes about 25 minutes each way, and costs you the price of a Metro Card swipe. So, basically, the South Street Ferry is the most budget friendly way to watch great views of southern Manhattan. As such we think its one of the main attractions in New York City for those traveling on a budget.

If you want to do a full on tour of Liberty Island and Ellis Island you will have to commit to taking a much longer trip on the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island Ferry. Tickets for this amazing trip costs around $24.50 for adults, and is totally worth it, especially if you have the time and the weather is nice.

Louis Valentino Jr Park Red Hook

During the height of the pandemic, when we were really only meant to leave our apartments for the essentials , I found my salvation in running to different neighborhoods around Brooklyn. This small park at the tip of Red Hook was an amazing place to feel the sun and sea breeze on my skin, smell the ocean, and feel a little bit removed from, well, everything. Now, it’s still a favorite spot to spend an afternoon. Get some picnicking essentials from nearby neighborhood favorites a bottle of wine from Red Hook Winery, a sandwich from Court Street Grocers , dessert from Steves Authentic Key Lime Pies and watch the sun set behind the Statue of Liberty with the Manhattan skyline twinkling in the distance. Is New York Safe For Solo Female Travellers

Apart from cat calling and drink spiking, New York is overall very safe for solo female travellers. Females have to stay more aware of their surroundings than male travellers, but that goes for everywhere in the world. New York is as safe as any other huge city in the Western world. However, we suggest not walking around or using the subway at night.

New York City Orientation And Subway Travel Tips

systematic, grid patterntips to help you navigate the city like an expert pedestrian.

  • Streets run horizontally from east to west.
  • Avenues run vertically from north to south.
  • 5th Avenue splits the east side from the west side. Address numbers get lower the closer the building is to 5th Avenue and higher the farther it is away from 5th Avenue.
  • Broadway is the exception. It runs diagonally, interestingly enough, following an old Native American footpath.

by Garyisajoke

The New York City subway extends throughout the city. No matter where you want to go, its likely a subway line is heading in that direction. Heres the subway info you need to know to look like a pro.

One last thing to consider for travel within NYC

  • Bike rentals are plentiful. I wouldnt suggest riding along the streets on your first visit to New York City, but scenic rides along the Hudson River bike path and through parks are great ways to combine sightseeing and transportation.

Arrival Into New York City

8 THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW BEFORE VISITING New York City ...

New York City has 3 airports nearby, JFK, Laguardia, and Newark Liberty in New Jersey. If your flight arrives into JFK or Newark, it is possible to take commuter trains and/or the subway to get into NYC.

Visitors arriving into Laguardia, on the other hand, have fewer public transportation options. If taking a taxi or car service from Laguardia, brace yourself for at least an hour ride into Manhattan as the traffic can be horrendous in this area depending on the time of day your flight arrives.

New York City taxis are available at JFK and Laguardia. Its a flat $52 fare from JFK plus tolls and tip. The fare is calculated by the meter for rides from Laguardia. You will pay to sit in traffic. To save money, book a ride with the most trusted shuttle from the New York Airports. Theyre comfortable, reliable, and far cheaper than a taxi.

If you live in the northeast and are coming for your first visit to New York City, youre better off taking a commuter train like Metro-North, NJ Transit, or Amtrak into the city. Or, for an even cheaper option, take a bus directly to New Yorks Port Authority Bus Terminal, just 1 block from Times Square.
