Browse Chelsea Market One Of The Best Things To Do In New York City
Another main attraction in NYC that I recommend is Chelsea Market. Occupying a full city block, the market is in a former Nabisco factory. Today, the market boasts dozens of food stalls, as well as shops and office spaces for companies like Google and YouTube.
14. Browse Chelsea Market, one of the best things to do in New York City
Starting on the markets underground floor, you can peruse the food market for fresh produce, artisan cheeses, sweets, and ethnic food. Youll also see craft and clothing stalls and the Pearl River Mart, a popular Asian-American retailer.
Along with live music throughout the week, Chelsea Market also hosts ARTECHOUSE, an immersive exhibit that combines art, science, and technology. Its an awesome thing to do in New York City after enjoying some delicious food, and you can get your ticket in advance here.

Moreover, this NYC landmark is known for its variety of indoor and outdoor attractions, including Rockefeller Plaza, which transforms into an ice-skating rink in the winter. Inside the Rockefeller Center, you can go to the underground concourse for all kinds of dining and shopping options.
Perhaps best of all, the Rockefeller Center is home to one of the best observation decks in NYC, the Topof the Rock. Go To Grand Central Station & The Chrysler Building Two Places You Cant Miss In Nyc
For a free way to experience the hustle and bustle of NYC, check out Grand Central Station. This iconic train terminal is over 100 years old and was built in the Beaux-Arts style, which you can see reflected in the Main Concourses celestial-painted ceiling.
Around 100,000 people visit Grand Central per day, some of which are travelers and others that are visiting for the novelty of it. Besides serving as a hub for the citys subway and railway systems, the terminal houses dozens of shops, and restaurants, most notably Grand Central Market. Its also worth visiting Vanderbilt Hall, a lavish 1,100ft² event space.
9. Go to Grand Central Station & the Chrysler Building, two places you cant miss in NYC
Just a short walk from the terminal is the Chrysler Building, one of the most famous places in New York. Towering nearly 1,050 feet high, its one of the citys tallest skyscrapers and an excellent example of the Art Deco style.
You can admire the buildings architecture from several viewpoints, although my favorite is the Tudor City Bridge. If you can, you should visit during Manhattanhenge , when the sun aligns with the city streets grid pattern, creating an iconic photo opportunity.

Which Museum: Met Or American Museum Of Natural History
If you have a short time in New York or arent much of a museum person, we would encourage you to choose just one. We saw both, albeit briefly, and wished we would have spent more time in just one so we didnt feel as rushed.
Both museums are impressive and everyone has differing opinions on which is the best. We felt like the American Museum of Natural History was better for families with children, while we personally enjoyed the MET a bit more. Bonus: The rooftop bar at the MET has nice views!
Insider Tip: The MET has free hour-long highlight tours every 15 minutes between 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. If you have a short amount of time, this is a good way to get the inside scoop on some of the museums most noteworthy pieces.
The guide did a good job of showing us very different pieces from wood carvings to paintings to stained glass to armor to statues. Its a good way to pack a lot into a short amount of time!
Foodie Tip: If you go to the American Museum of Natural History, dont miss the famous cookies at Levain Bakery just a few blocks away. You wont regret it!

Let The Kids Loose In One Of The Citys Inventive Playgrounds
New York City has no shortage of playgrounds for kids to burn off extra energy, but some are simply cooler than others. At Ancient Playground, next to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, kids can explore pyramid-shaped climbers and check out the obelisk and sundial, both inspired by The Mets collection of Egyptian Art. The Imagination Playground at Burling Slip, designed by architect David Rockwell, encourages kids to use their imagination with giant foam blocks, fabric, and crates. Pier 6 in Brooklyn Bridge Park features playgrounds like the Sandbox Village where kids can play in little wooden houses in the sand, and the Water Lab, guaranteed to leave them soaking wet and cool on hot summer days in the city.

If youre looking for an event that is a little more arty and quirky, then you may be keen to participate in New York Citys Unsilent Night, which is the brainchild of composer Phil Kline.
Participants usually meet at Washington Square arch, armed with a boombox or smartphone, and they all play four chosen tracks of music simultaneously while walking through the streets of the city. Unsilent Night usually lasts about 45 minutes and ends at Tompkins Square Park.

George F Johnson Carousels
Donated to the Greater Binghamton Parks by shoe manufacturer and philanthropist George F. Johnson, the six George F. Johnson Carousels are wood-carved masterpieces that will make you feel like you’ve stepped back in time. The wood-carved carousels were all installed in the 1920s, and they can be found in six different parks throughout Greater Binghamton. Johnson came from a poor background and wanted his carousels to be accessible to everyone, so anyone who would like to go for a spin is asked to simply pick up a piece of litter instead of paying an admission fee.

A Quick & Cheap: Staten Island Ferry
If youve got limited time and youre on a budget, the best way to see the Statue of Liberty is by hopping on the Staten Island Ferry. This is free and will bring you quite close to the iconic statue.
Ferries leave every 30 minutes from the South Ferry terminal in Manhattan, and all you have to do is show up! Since its free theres no need to buy tickets.
As the ferry is about to board everyone heads to the exit in one massive crowd.
Insider Tip: If you want to see the Statue of Liberty, you will need to be on the right-hand side of the ferry when you are leaving Manhattan.
Enter the ferry through the left doors which are less crowded and immediately head up to the third floor, then cross over to the right side and snag a spot on the railing. This will help you get ahead of the crowds. As you approach Staten Island, go down to the first floor so you can be at the front of the crowd when getting off the boat.
The ferry ride takes about 25 minutes, and when you dock at Staten Island you will need to get off the vessel, walk around the corner and get back on the same ferry .
Have more time? If you have time to kill, weve heard there are great Sri Lankan restaurants in Staten Island not far from the ferry terminal. Lakruwana and New Asha look good!
