The Late Show With Stephen Colbert
The Late Show with Stephen Colbert is a CBS talk show that is taped every weekday at NBC Studios at the Ed Sullivan Theater. The taping of the show is open to the public and is one of the most popular free entertainment events at Times Square. Stephen Colbert is a popular American comedian who succeeded David Letterman in 2015. Since he took over, the show has become much more political. While the entrance is free, getting the tickets for the show is not easy. Tickets are released about two months in advance and are gone quickly. Taking part in the show taping is so popular that some visitors do not mind being put on the waiting list just in case someone cancels.

Mechanical And Environmental Features
The building is partially powered by two fuel cells that are capable of 200 kW each. They are installed on the fourth floor. The two cells could provide 50 percent of the exterior signs’ nighttime power needs but a minuscule amount of the daytime needs. They could generate eight percent of the building’s total electricity. The fuel cells cost $1 million and were made by United Technologies Corporation. As part of an agreement with Consolidated Edison , which operates much of New York City’s power-supply system, the cells must be turned off during a power failure, such as the Northeast blackout of 2003.
Fox & Fowle originally planned to include eight fuel cells, which would have been capable of generating 12,800,000 kWh of power annually, including all of the exterior signs’ power needs. Along with the photovoltaic panels on the facade, the fuel cells would have been able to provide most of the power for 4 Times Square, with building managers purchasing power from the city’s electrical grid from Con Ed only as needed. The fuel cells would have to run continuously to operate efficiently, since they could not be turned off or on easily, but the building’s power needs were much lower at night during the day. Furthermore, each cell cost $600,000. Consequently, plans for six of the eight fuel cells were discarded in 1997.

Where New York City Magic Comes Alive
If you dropped someone from the 1970s into Times Square today, theyd tell you it was unrecognizable. Its wild to imagine that the most vibrant neighborhood in the most vibrant city in the world used to be a dilapidated hub for shady activity. These days kids scamper on the sidewalks, and candy stores invite you in with open doors. Families smile for pictures on the streets, laughing and making memories everywhere you look.
After seven years of visiting practically every day, Ive become a Times Square pro. A lot of locals avoid Times Square, and they like to throw around terms like tourist trap. Well, Id be happy to stay trapped here. The lights and marquees of Broadway will never cease to inspire me, and every time I walk past the TKTS steps and look south towards the New Years Eve ball, it reminds me why I moved here. Sometimes Ill even pass one of our Times Square tours on my way to see a show, and I love seeing all of the awe-struck faces of people taking it all in for the first time.
For me, Times Square is a place to reconnect with the people and the things that are most important to me. Whether its a Broadway show or a family photo on 42nd Street, hopefully it will become that place for you, too.
