From Clipouts To The Web Coupons Transition Slowly

  • Read in app

By Bob Tedeschi

ONLINE coupons have always been a bargain-hunters diversion, which may be precisely why the market has grown so slowly. Who wants to take time out of the day to track down sites that give away 50-cent discounts, then search for eligible products that they might need?

Right now, the practice appeals only to about 12 percent of the 175 million Internet users in the United States, according to ComScore Media Metrix. The rest are apparently happy getting coupons in their Sunday paper, where they can flip through them in seconds.

Purveyors of Internet coupons, like Coupons.com and CoolSavings.com, run sites where visitors can click on an offer and print out a slip to take to a store for, say, a dollar off a roll of toilet paper or 75 cents off a box of fruit bars. But executives at Coupons Inc., which runs Coupons.com, and elsewhere say that consumers may be more receptive to online coupons if they stumble upon them while seeking out other content for instance, if a recipe they are viewing contains an offer for an ingredient, or if a news article links to a coupon for a product or service it mentions.

Coupons Inc. began offering such a service last year, and its chief executive, Steven R. Boal, says the initiative is about to get a significant boost. In the coming weeks, he said, a number of online publishers will adopt it, thereby putting online coupons directly in the paths of millions of consumers who might not otherwise see them.

About Medical Marijuana New York

The Big Apple and the rest of the Empire State took its first bite of medical cannabis in 2014 when Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed legislation into law. Ever since, Gov. Cuomo has gone above and beyond attempting to legalize cannabis recreationally, even having a Pot Summit in 2019 with other East Coast governors.

In 2018, Gov. Cuomo added PTSD to the list of conditions, and in 2018, allowed medical cannabis to be used for opioid use disorder. As far as Gov. Cuomo is concerned, recreational cannabis would answer a lot of woes along with benefiting the physical wellbeing of thousands of citizens who suffer from a list of the states qualifying conditions. The second benefit recreational cannabis would bring in is up to 1.3 billion dollars in tax revenue, a number Cuomo predicted for 2019 to no avail.

On May 3, 2019, the New York State Department of Health released guidelines for laboratory testing on packaged medical cannabis products. The products to be tested include capsules, pills, oral sprays, powders, tinctures, topical lotions, vape cartridges, cannabis flower and more. These products are tested for cannabinoid potency, product stability, bacteria, mycotoxins, and containments through labs accredited through New York. This is big news because testing confirms the safety of medical cannabis products for patients.

Understand The Escalating Tensions Over Ukraine

A brewing conflict.Antagonism between Ukraine and Russia has been simmering since 2014, when the Russian military crossed into Ukrainian territory, annexing Crimea and whipping up a rebellion in the east. A tenuous cease-fire was reached in 2015, but peace has been elusive.

A spike in hostilities.Russia has recently been building up forces near its border with Ukraine, and the Kremlins rhetoric toward its neighbor has hardened. Concern grew in late October, when Ukraine used an armed drone to attack a howitzer operated by Russian-backed separatists.

Ominous warnings.Russia called the strike a destabilizing act that violated the cease-fire agreement, raising fears of a new intervention in Ukraine that could draw the United States and Europe into a new phase of the conflict.

The Kremlins position.President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia, who has increasingly portrayed NATOs eastward expansion as an existential threat to his country, said that Moscows military buildup was a response to Ukraines deepening partnership with the alliance.

A measured approach.President Biden has said he is seeking a stable relationship with Russia. So far, his administration is focusing on maintaining a dialogue with Moscow, while seeking to develop deterrence measures in concert with European countries.

Renewal Of The Registry Id Card

The duration of the caregivers registry ID card is based on the duration of the patients certification. Accordingly, a caregivers registry card will expire at the same time as the patients card. After the patient obtains a new certification from the physician and renews his or her registry card, the caregiver can apply for a renewal of his or her card.

Regulations permit a designated caregiver to obtain payment from the patient for the following two expenses only:

The actual amount charged by the dispensary for the approved medical marijuana product purchased for the patient and

Reasonable costs incurred in the transportation and delivery of medical marijuana product to the patient.

Each designated caregiver must also comply with the following requirements:

  • Must obtain a registry ID card for each certified patient
  • Must provide care to no more than five certified patients
  • Must not possess at any one time a cumulative quantity of medical cannabis that exceeds the amount allowed for each certified patient
  • Must not possess any form of medical marijuana other than those forms recommended specifically for the use of certified patients
  • Must not knowingly share, sell, trade or otherwise deliver medical cannabis to anyone who is not a registered patient
  • Must abide by the same reporting requirements as described above for patients, including the obligation to return registry ID cards issued in connection with those patients who no longer have an eligible condition.

New York Times V Sullivan

Coupons You Dont Clip, Sent to Your Cellphone

The paper’s involvement in a 1964 libel case helped bring one of the key United States Supreme Court decisions supporting freedom of the press, New York Times Co. v. Sullivan. In it, the United States Supreme Court established the “actual malice” standard for press reports about public officials or public figures to be considered defamatory or libelous. The malice standard requires the plaintiff in a defamation or libel case to prove the publisher of the statement knew the statement was false or acted in reckless disregard of its truth or falsity. Because of the high burden of proof on the plaintiff, and difficulty proving malicious intent, such cases by public figures rarely succeed.

    Gender Discrimination In Employment

Discriminatory practices used by the paper long restricted women in appointments to editorial positions. The newspaper’s first general female reporter was , who described her experience afterward: “In the beginning I was charged not to reveal the fact that a female had been hired”. Other reporters nicknamed her Fluff and she was subjected to considerable hazing. Because of her gender, any promotion was out of the question, according to the then-managing editor. Walter Duranty’s Holodomor Coverage And Pulitzer

Walter Duranty, who served as its Moscow bureau chief from 1922 through 1936, has been criticized for a series of stories in 1931 on the Soviet Union and won a Pulitzer Prize for his work at that time however, he has been criticized for his denial of widespread famine, most particularly Holodomor, a famine in Soviet Ukraine in the 1930s in which he summarized Russian propaganda, and the Times published, as fact: “Conditions are bad, but there is no famine”.

In 2003, after the Pulitzer Board began a renewed inquiry, the Times hired , professor of Russian history at Columbia University, to review Duranty’s work. Von Hagen found Duranty’s reports to be unbalanced and uncritical, and that they far too often gave voice to Stalinistpropaganda. In comments to the press he stated, “For the sake of The New York Times’ honor, they should take the prize away.”The Ukrainian Weekly covered the efforts to rescind Duranty’s prize. The Times has since made a public statement and the Pulitzer committee has declined to rescind the award twice stating, “…Mr. Duranty’s 1931 work, measured by today’s standards for foreign reporting, falls seriously short. In that regard, the Board’s view is similar to that of The New York Times itself…”.
