Man 69 Killed By Fire In His Brooklyn Apartment

A 69-year-old man was killed by a fire in his Brooklyn apartment early Monday, police said.

The blaze broke out in a bedroom inside the victims apartment in a six-story apartment building on Midwood St. near Utica Ave. in East Flatbush at about 4:30 a.m., FDNY officials said.

Sixty firefighters responded, bringing the fire under control at 5:23 a.m.

The 69-year-old man was killed by a fire inside his Brooklyn apartment early Monday.

Firefighters found the victim unconscious. Medics rushed him to Kings County Hospital, but he could not be saved. The victims name was not immediately released.

The fire was not considered suspicious, but its cause had not yet been determined.

On Saturday, an 8-year-old girl died when a fire blamed on a charging e-battery ripped through her Queens apartment, FDNY officials said. A family member recently got a scooter, a police source said, and it appears the battery was for the scooter.

It makes everyone sad for a girl to pass away for nothing, said a man who lives on the buildings second floor. Something has to change.

An officer stands outside of the Midwood Street building where a 69-year-old man was killed by a fire inside his Brooklyn apartment early Monday.

He described Stephanie as a quiet, little girl, very pretty.

They just bought the stupid thing, he lamented, pointing to the scooter.

Everything else can be fixed, he said of the fires destruction. But you cant bring back the little girl.
