If you think you have misophonia, Dr. Rosenthal suggested checking out the websites Misophonia Education and Soquiet.org, which provide resources and education on the topic.

It can be difficult to tamp down misophonias strong reactions, but experts say certain things could ease your rage. Dr. Brout said that walking away from the trigger, even for just 30 seconds, may calm you down. When youre in a situation in which you might get triggered, she also recommends breathing exercises such as four square breathing, which involves a repeated cycle of exhaling over a count of four, keeping your lungs empty for a count of four, inhaling over a count of four, and holding air in your lungs for a count of four.

Dr. Storch said that guided imagery exercises closing your eyes and imagining yourself in a calm and peaceful setting can also help, and that playing music or white noise in the background may drown out the sounds and tamp down your reactions, too.

So, you could use different computers in different locations to read their articles, but thats probably quite a hassle. Instead of physically relocating yourself, simply re-route your web queries using a proxy. There are a number of free proxy websites online, such as HideMyAss.com, which mask your actual IP and make it appear as though you are accessing a site from elsewhere.

New York Times On Kindle

I have the online subscription to the New York Times. Is there a way for me to put it on my kindle

The NYT Kindle subscription is separate from the other digital subscription:

Nope, like pretty much every other newspaper subscription, you need to get a separate Kindle subscription. That kind of sucks. I have the NYT Kindle subscription, which is $20 per month, but it’s really nice and easy to use. I don’t have a WSJ Kindle subscription because it’s too expensive , but I do have a WSJ digital subscription. What I do is go through the WSJ app on my phone and send any articles I’d like to read to my Kindle. It’s not as convenient as having a Kindle subscription, but it’s cheaper. That could be an option if you don’t want to pay $20 per month for NYT Kindle.

Discuss Your Experience With Loved Ones

How to Read Kindle Books on Computer

If your partners sounds are making you murderous, try talking with them about it, Dr. Rosenthal suggested. Explain that were all wired differently and that you feel particularly sensitive to certain sounds they are making. Tell them your reactions arent conscious choices, and ask for their support if you need to walk away or eat separately.

A tip based on personal experience: Try not to blame the other person for breathing or chewing too loudly. Whats happening isnt their fault, and asking them to be quieter probably wont help because these reactions tend to occur regardless of how loud they are. Nor is it constructive for the chewer or breather to suggest the person with misophonia is overreacting. When I polled my Instagram followers, many of them said that loved ones dismissed or mocked their reactions.

No one with misophonia wants misophonia, Dr. Rosenthal said. The idea that this is a thing that someone is choosing to be annoyed by, is, on its face, patently absurd.

Understand What Misophonia Is And Isnt

Chewing and slurping sounds can annoy anyone, so how can you tell if your reactions are strong enough to constitute misophonia? Dr. Storch said that what matters is the intensity of your reaction and how much it interferes with your daily life. If the sound of someone chewing slightly annoys you, you are a human being. If the sound makes you so angry you want to hurt someone, that could be misophonia.

Emily Boyer, a lawyer based in Atlanta and an old friend of mine, told me that she finds pen-clicking and chewing sounds so enraging and distracting that she brought multiple pairs of ear plugs with her when she took the bar exam in a crowded convention center. The worst sound? When her husband chews ice. She typically asks him to stop but tries to keep it lighthearted: Take it easy, chomps, she says.

People with misophonia can be set off by many kinds of sounds and sights, not just those made by mouths. Finger- and pen-tapping as well as foot-shaking are potential triggers, Dr. Storch said. However, the most common triggers are nose, mouth and throat noises: chewing, crunching, sniffling, snoring, sneezing and throat clearing.

As Ny Times Paywall Goes Up Kindle Subs Also Get Website For Free

As the somewhat confusing New York Times paywall went up Monday, theoretically pushing readers toward new digital subscriptions, Amazon announced that Kindle subscribers will also get access to NYTimes.com for free — albeit not right away.

One of the oddities in the Timesdigital subscription pricing scheme is that there is no tier to subscribe only to the website — subscribe to any print or digital tier and you get the website for free.

Also omitted from the small spectrum of choices was any tier that also included the Kindle, which remains a separate $20-a-month proposition even if you are paying $35 every four weeks for what the Times calls its All Digital Access subscription level.

The evident commoditization of the website was a head scratcher for some , especially since the 20-story-a-month cutoff appears to be quite porous — referred links from Twitter, for example, don’t really count. And it didn’t take anyone long to realize that a $20, Sunday-only print subscription got you the website, as well as full access using the app on both the iPhone and iPad.

The New York Times is the best-selling subscription on Amazon, where the terms are set by the newspaper company. Amazon said it did not yet know when free online access would be available.

The publication is tempting you, however, with $1 introductory subscriptions for the first four weeks for all three tiers, a savings of as much as $34.
