We all pay a LOT of money to live here and the price and size of many apartments would likely shock you. There are plenty of clean cheap budget hotels in Manhattan, NYC, some with really interesting rooms and great amenities.

The rooms at The Jane are designed like a ships cabin. The low rate catch is there is only a single bed and the coed bathroom is down the hall. Some rooms offer bunk beds and the captains cabin with private bathroom starts at $225. The hip, but tiny rooms, come with free wi-fi, 23-inch LCD television, DVD player, iPod dock, built-in drawers and a luggage rack plus bicycles are complimentary and they are right on the Hudson River. Brunch at the Jane Hotel is a NYC favorite.

Budget travelers looking for cheap hotels will definitely want to look into New Jersey first. New Jersey is conveniently close to Manhattan, and many of the hotel prices can average around $115 $125 per night. What Is The Best Time To Visit New York City
Popular in every season, fall tends to be one of the priciest seasons since the weather is particularly lovey. April to June also offers mild temperatures and lovely spring blooms. If you visit in the summer expect hot and humid temperatures and an influx of tourists and an outflow of locals.
You can often find good deals in the winter, but expect prices to rise around the holiday season when people love to come see the holiday decorations, window displays, Rockettes, and more.

Prices are right and it is a very quick subway ride to Manhattan with several major subway lines all within a two-block radius.
Rooms are a nice size, and certainly bigger than most Manhattan rooms in the same price range. For $20 more you can request a room on a high floor, with views of Brooklyn and New York Harbor.
Amenities include free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TV, pillow-topped mattresses, a desk/workspace, a mini-refrigerator, and individually controlled air conditioning.
The hotel has an indoor heated pool, a fitness center, and 24-hour business center. Pets are allowed with a deposit.
Hotels.com rates this hotel at 7.2 out of 10. People say the location was convenient but that the hotel is best for those who won’t be spending a lot of time in their room. Complaints are about the cleanliness, which they feel could be better. The pool and sauna was a perk, but not always available.

Check The Neighborhood First
This is my biggest tip as a few people have reached out to me after booking a cheap place to stay in New York City only to realize upon arrival that the neighborhood wasnt great and they didnt feel safe walking at night there.
I tend to use caution in recommending neighborhoods to tourists as New York City has crime and carrying your expensive camera around certain areas is likely to attract attention. I especially recommend using caution if youre a woman traveling solo in New York City. I strongly recommend looking up the neighborhood before booking.
My recommended NYC neighborhoods to stay in on a budget: I recommend staying in the Lower East Side, Chinatown, Astoria, Williamsburg, and Long Island City. If youre open to it, consider staying in Staten Island or Jersey City for lower rates.
Avoid Breakfast If Its Extra
My dad and I wrote an article about how to save money on hotels and one of our biggest tips is to avoid paying for breakfast if you can. Youll often pay at least $10 extra per person at cheap hotels for breakfast, so if its not included, dont be afraid to go to your neighborhood bagel shop or out to brunch in New York City.

Manhattan is a quick commute via the PATH system, and Downtown Newark has plenty of fun activities like restaurants, bars, museums and performing arts.
Journal Square is a part of Jersey City that many commuters pass through often. Most major NYC sights and destinations are less than 20 minutes away. Journal Square is very convenient and hotel prices are incredibly low. Fort Lee is a nice suburban area with a high korean population. The hotels in Fort Lee offer shuttle services, allowing travelers to avoid driving or taking public transportation.

Standard queen rooms are on the smaller side but amenities make up for that. Rooms come with free ultra-fast Wi-Fi, flat-screen LCD TV, Keurig coffee machine, iPod/iPhone docking, toiletries, and a desk.
Some rooms overlook the 9/11 Memorial and its beautiful cascading fountains. The highlight of the hotel is its 20th-floor restaurant with floor-to-ceiling windows and an outdoor terrace. The views are stunning.
