Cheap Accommodation In New York With Airbnb
If you look on Airbnb, youll often find apartments listed that are considerably cheaper than comparable hotel rooms. Wed still advise against staying in an Airbnb apartment in New York.
Airbnb ruins the housing market for locals
We used to be huge fans of Airbnb. For two reasons: It allows you to rent out your apartment when youre on vacation, and you get to stay at a private apartment instead of a hotel and feel at home everywhere in the world.
The basic concept is great. But these days, Airbnb is full of professional vacation rentals leased for the sole purpose of putting them on Airbnb and filled with random ugly furniture to make a quick buck by renting them out 365 days a year.
The result: The housing market in major cities has become even more overcrowded and prices have skyrocketed. People are being driven out of popular districts, which then devolve into total tourist traps. That really sucks and we dont want to contribute to this cycle any longer.
Weve had several bad experiences with Airbnb.
Whats more, weve had some very bad experiences with Airbnb apartments over the past few years and were very disappointed with their customer service.
We ended up emailing back and forth with Airbnbs customer service for several days, sometimes even weeks, only to come to the realization that guests ultimately get the short end of the stick when problems arise.

The Best Places to Park in NYC

The best way to cut down on parking costs is first to avoid paying the $14 tolls when you enter Manhattan, Brooklyn or Queens from a bridge or tunnel. If you insist on parking in Manhattan for convenience be prepared to spend at least $30 per day on overnight parking. We suggest if you plan to park in Manhattan book a parking spot ahead of time and prepay to avoid the hassles of driving around in traffic and trying to compare rates.
The Best Parking in NYC
The best parking in New York City is to park across the river in NJ. Commuting to Manhattan will only take 15 to 20 minutes. Youll save because you dont have to pay the tolls to enter Manhattan and parking in NJ is cheaper. We suggest looking at parking near the PATH subway or near the ferry. The PATH subway is only $2.75 and operates nearly 24/7. The best stations for parking are the parking lots near the Newark PATH station,Journal Sq. Station, Exchange Place Station, Newport Station or Hoboken Station. The ferry has its perks, the views are amazing of the NYC skyline, but the schedule can be limiting. The Catskills New York
A visit to the Catskills is a New Yorker’s rite of passage. Located in the Appalachian Mountain range in southeastern New York, the Catskills are the perfect setting for a relaxing girlfriends’ getaway, a romantic couples’ weekend, or even a family trip.
The best way to get here is to hop in the car for a 150-mile drive, which, depending on the traffic and time of year, can take anywhere from two-and-a-half to four hours. The trip is richly rewarding, especially in fall, when the autumn leaves light up the mountains with their rich colors.
If you are looking for scenic views, head to Overlook Mountain in Woodstock or the Minnewaska State Park Preserve in Kerhonkson. Here, you can hike or just relax and convene with nature. For those searching for a little more adventure, you can do the fastest and highest zipline tour at Hunter Mountain, or paddle out to the Hudson-Athens Lighthouse.
The Catskills are also filled with great places to eat, which is a good thing seeing as you’ll spend much of your time here working up an appetite by adventuring. Depending on your mood, you can get everything from classic diner food at places like the Ambrosia Diner or enjoy fine dining with a French bistro twist at Bistro Brie and Bordeaux.

Lower Manhattan: Best Area To Stay In New York For Tourists Who Are Light Sleepers
Lower Manhattan, also known as the Financial District is at Manhattans southernmost tip. Dutch settlers established the colony of New Amsterdam right here because of its prime business location for sailing goods in and out of the harbor. Clearly, they were onto something. Lower Manhattan is arguably the financial capital of the world. Its busiest during the week when corporate America is hard at work. The hotels in the area are more expensive during the week as they cater to business travelers. Weekend visitors, however, could get lucky with a surprise hotel deal.

Cruise Parking In Nyc
We are driving to NYC this weekend and then boarding a cruise ship for a week. Any suggestions on inexpensive places to park the car for the week? We have one in mind – Park Right – but am not sure if they are reputable or not. HELP???
cruise port are you using? Manhattan, Brooklyn, or Bayonne?
Edited: 8 years ago
Manhattan I believe, it is Norweigen out of 711 12th Avenue
go to or
and get a coupon for the week nearest the cruise port, make sure u get at least 3 parking areas, since i have had the one i choose be full when i arrived one time, and was very annoyed at that.
of course cheapest is not bring ur car to nyc
There are some garages that will let you reserve a spot online. When you look at bestparking, look at the west 40’s – west 50’s to be near the pier.
Your other option is to park at the Port Imperial ferry terminal in Weehawken, NJ for $12/day but at least the driver will need to take the ferry back and forth which adds ~$20. But that’s still about half of what you’d pay in Manhattan
Park in the city. After the cruise, you can catch a cab to the garage vs having to drag your luggage to a further location.

The Hamptons New York
The southern tip of Long Island has a lengthy history as a favorite vacation spot for those wanting to escape the Big Apple and get some quality beach time, and it’s a hot spot for celebs. This glitzy area offers countless activities in quaint villages, which make up what is known as The Hamptons.
Each hamlet has its own unique personality , including Bridgehampton, Montauk, Sag Harbor, Amagansett, and Sagaponack. From quiet retreats and artsy enclaves, to mini versions of a social scene of Manhattan on the Beach, the Hamptons offer something for everyone.
During the busy summer season be prepared for what can be crippling traffic that can turn the short distance into a three-hour drive, especially if you choose to commute from the city on a Friday. However, few will argue that it’s not worth the effort.
Those with deep pockets can hire a helicopter service to transport them straight to the Hamptons in anywhere from 25 to 65 minutes. Other options include taking a bus or driving yourself. No matter how you choose to get there, a sandy paradise awaits, immediately transporting visitors from the manic pace of New York City.
While in the region, be sure to stop by a local seafood shack like the Dock House in Sag Harbor, where you can catch sweeping views of the marina while eating some fresh, local catch, a specialty in the Hamptons. Miles of beaches invite visitors for long walks, swimming, sand-castle building, and boogie boarding.
