Geneva Most Local Area In The Finger Lakes

Although were not in Geneva, Switzerland , we sure have access to some stunning natural locations in this region of the Finger Lakes. Located on the northern shore of Seneca Lake, this picturesque town is a great choice where to stay in the Finger Lakes for anyone who likes historical places.

In the late 18th-century, people began to settle in this New York town. The names origin is still up for debate as some people say that it came from the town in Switzerland, or others that it has Native American origins, but wherever it came from, the area is just as beautiful.

As youll see, the town is all about local farming and agriculture, so its no wonder that most of the businesses in Geneva are based on producing fruits, vegetables, dairy products sold in farm markets, wineries, and craft microbreweries.

Geneva has that small-town charm, and the fact that they produce most of their food and beverage locally just makes everything better, Im a huge fan of these types of places!

Best Of Wineries: Sip On A Glass Of Wine While Enjoying The Views Of Seneca Lake

The Finger Lakes region is known for its array of wineries scattered along the lakes. But, according to Fitzgerald, Seneca Lake is home to some of the best.

There are over 30 wineries that make up the Seneca Lake Wine Trail, and it’s home to more wineries than any other lake in the region.

“The Seneca Lake Wine Trail goes all the way down the west side of Seneca Lake and then back up the east side of Seneca Lake,” Fitzgerald explained to Business Insider.

Where To Stay In The Finger Lakes Area

I will be traveling to the Finger Lakes area early August 2013 with my wife for three nights, Thursday through Sunday. I can’t decide if we should stay in Ithaca or Watkins Glen. We like to walk and bike ride, outdoor activities including parks, swimming and biking. And we also enjoy history and or course wine tasting. I don’t want to stay in a big town and would perfer the smaller quieter option. Should we stay in Ithaca or Watkins Glen, or does someone else have a different suggestion? Thanks! 🙂

I would definitely choose Ithaca over Watkins Glen as you have access to more attractions, lodging and dining. Also, Watkins Glen is usually congested by default but especially so around the second weekend in August, which is when the Nascar event takes place. Watkins Glen state park is definitely worth a visit though .

Ithaca is very near three gorgeous state parks where there is great hiking and good swimming. A great weekend farmers market is also worth checking out. There is alot of construction occuring in Ithaca this summer so that could impact a stay there.

There are excellent historic sites in Seneca Falls and Auburn . There are Erie Canal sites and Montezuma Wildlife Refuge near both of these towns as well.

If you are looking for smaller, quieter towns, consider Penn Yan or Hammondsport on Keuka Lake or Naples at the south end of Canandaigua Lake.

The Statler Hotel At Cornell University Ithaca

Cornell University is an Ivy League star set upon the magnificent soil of Ithaca. The sprawling campus features historic buildings, perfectly manicured grounds, and stunning vistas. Luckily for those who visit, it is also home to the highly rated Statler Hotel.

Designed to educate students about the hotel industry in 1950, this remarkable spot continues to be one of the best resorts in the Finger Lakes region. A combination of factors contribute to its success: high-end, contemporary amenities and furnishings a remarkable view over the magnificent campus and sparkling Cayuga Lake and most importantly, unbeatable service. Here, youll find students working alongside seasoned professionals, all clamoring to ensure your stay is first rate.

This AAA Four Diamond award winner offers a business kiosk, fitness center, free airport shuttle, and extremely comfy beds. Taverna Banfi, Regent Lounge, TheTerrace Restaurant, and Macs serve tasty fare with a pretty view. The cuisine varies by restaurant, so you can enjoy an Italian dish one night a Pan-Asian bowl or pizza the next.

While youre in the area, take a moment to check out the falls at Robert H. Treman State Park. Its one of the best things to do in the Finger Lakes Region.
