George F Johnson Carousels
Donated to the Greater Binghamton Parks by shoe manufacturer and philanthropist George F. Johnson, the six George F. Johnson Carousels are wood-carved masterpieces that will make you feel like you’ve stepped back in time. The wood-carved carousels were all installed in the 1920s, and they can be found in six different parks throughout Greater Binghamton. Johnson came from a poor background and wanted his carousels to be accessible to everyone, so anyone who would like to go for a spin is asked to simply pick up a piece of litter instead of paying an admission fee.

New York Itinerary: What To Do And See In 5 Days In Nyc

First settled by the Dutch as New Amsterdam in 1624, the city came under English control in 1664. The city was a major trading center thanks to its location at the mouth of the Hudson River. After the American Revolution, New York became the seat of Americas power and government, officially becoming the nations capital in 1789 when George Washington was sworn in.
While its no longer the nations capital , NYC is still the beating heart of the country.
Home to around 10 million people, NYC has tons of things to see and do. You can barely scratch the surface on a typical four- or five-day visit.
New York is impossible to see in one visit. This city is home to thousands of restaurants, hundreds of museums, attractions, plays, and quirky things to do. You just have to resign yourself to that fact, unless you move here , youre only going to see a fraction of what you hope to see. It takes a while to get around town.
As a traveler, how do you visit NYC? What are the best things to see and do here? What is the best itinerary for NYC? How do you make the most of your time here?
There are ways to make the most of the limited time travelers have in New York. You need at least three days to really see the main highlights . However, I suggest 4-5 days to see the main sights without rushing too much.
So, without further ado, here is my suggested five-day New York itinerary featuring my favorite things to do in the Big Apple:

Rochester is the gateway to the Finger Lakes region and is brimming with family fun. Areas & Neighborhoods In New York
The neighborhoods in New York are difficult if not impossible to encapsulate in just a few sentences. Indeed, the vibrant, diverse areas of NYC could fill a book. And things to do in New York span across all of these neighborhoods. Whether you are interested in the arts, want to party the night away, or feel like strolling the streets aimlessly, New York City makes an excellent destination.
Midtown Midtown hosts the Empire State Building and Koreatown. Of course, the area is also spilling over with professionals who have somewhere to be, so prepare to elbow your way down the sidewalk as you navigate the neighborhood.
Chinatown Make your way to Chinatown for authentic dim sum and cultural flare. This part of NYC is also a magnet for adventurous foodies, and you will find vendors selling things like live eels and pork buns to the public. Dont let the name of the neighborhood deceive you: Chinatown also has Vietnamese food and more.
SoHo Take the fast track to SoHo for boutiques and other retailers in spades. Once youve spent your fair share on your credit card, make your way to some of the chic art galleries, if only for a window shop.
West Village West Village has trendy nightlife and serves as a good place for celebrity watching. Despite its high profile, the area manages to maintain a bit of a comfortable charm. This attitude is reflected in local brunch spots and beyond.

Syracuse is New Yorks fourth largest city and is located in upstate New York. Visitors can learn about the history of the city, region, and the ingenious Erie Canal at the Erie Canal Museum. The Milton J. Rubinstein Museum of Science is perfect for families and features hands on exhibits and tours.
For outdoor fun, guests can go ice skating at Clinton Square or relax at one of the city parks such as Thornden and Elmwood Parks. See The Broadway Performances At Hudson Yards
Similar to Broadway Under The Stars, Broadway Performances at Hudson Yards is a free event where you can see the cast of many famous Broadway shows perform live. There are several dates throughout November and December, starting at 5 p.m.
For one hour, you can experience a true Broadway feeling in the area called The Stage on the 4th floor. Because the free tickets are limited, you should book them as soon as possible. After all, the Broadway Performances at Hudson Yards are only available during the Holiday Season!
Watkins Glen State Park
Located at the southernmost tip of Seneca Lake, this Park with 18 waterfalls seems like something out of a fantasy movie. It really is so beautiful.

Hang With Farm Animals At The Queens County Farm Museum
Find cows, sheep, pigs, and more at the Queens County Farm Museum, which dates back to 1697 and is the longest continuously farmed site in New York State. One World Observatory
One World Trade Center is the seventh tallest building in the world and the tallest building in the western hemisphere. This skyscraper stands next to the footprints of the original World Trade Center buildings that were destroyed in the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
The One World Observatory, which is the observation deck on One World Trade Center, is a great place to take in your first view of New York City. From here, you have awesome views of Manhattan, the Statue of Liberty, Brooklyn, Staten Island, and New Jersey. Plus, by being here early in the day, you get to beat the crowds and have a more pleasant experience.

You can visit the 9/11 Memorial for free on Tuesdays after 5 pm. The MET and American Natural History Museum are by donation only. The MoMA is free after 4 pm on Fridays (if you cant make it, opt for getting a timed-entry ticket beforehand!
The Guggenheim is pay-what-you-can on Saturday nights, as is the Frick Collection on Wednesdays from 2pm-6pm. The Jewish Museum is free on Saturdays. Basically, all of the big time museums have some form of a free or affordable entrance at one point or another! If you cant make it on those certain days, get your hands on a cheap online entry ticket instead!
Best Things To Do In Upstate New York
Beautiful nature abounds in Upstate New York not only is the area home to several stunning mountain ranges, but it also offers sparkling rivers, caves, amusement parks, lakes, cascading waterfalls, and miles and miles of hiking trails. There are plenty of things to do on a rainy day as well why not check out the Baseball Hall of Fame, visit the historic home of Harriet Tubman, or learn about the history of racing at the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame. Certain attractions may be temporarily closed or require advance reservations. Some restaurants are currently offering pickup only. Hours/availability may have changed.

What Should I Pack For A Weekend In New York
New York follows the seasons like a champ so pack for the weather youre going to get. In winter, youll be needing a super warm coat and shoes, as well as enough clothes to layer for the weekend. How To Get Around
Trains: The New York City subway is one of the most extensive public transit systems in the world. It connects Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, and the Bronx, and runs on Staten Island. Each ride costs $2.75. A seven-day pass is available for $33 and covers both trains and buses.
Buses: A network of buses offers easy access to the rare spots not served by nearby train stations and to New York’s LaGuardia Airport. Individual bus rides cost $2.75. Seven-day transit passes cost $33 and cover trains and buses. While buses can be convenient, traffic can sometimes make them easy to outwalk.
Ferries: One of the best ways to hop among New York’s boroughs in good weather is a ferry. Ferries connect Queens, the western coast of Brooklyn, the eastern side of Manhattan, and Staten Island. Rides are $2.75 each. Subway and bus passes aren’t accepted on New York ferries. The Staten Island Ferry is free.
