Looking for an inexpensive way to do a quick trip to Bermuda? If you live along the East Coast, one of the least pricey options is to take a short cruise there with one of a handful of major lines sailing out of such cities as New York and Baltimore.

Four-night sailings to Bermuda from the New York area sometimes are available for as little as $400 per person, for a package that includes your room, transportation and meals.

As those who regularly fly to Bermuda from the East Coast know, thats not much more than the typical cost of roundtrip flights to and from the destination alone, and all those flights do is get you there. If you go by air, youre still facing the cost of a hotel and meals in what has long-been considered one of the most expensive places in the world. You easily could end up paying two or three times more on flights to, and accommodations in, Bermuda than you would on a cruise from the East Coast.

And its not for everyone.

Before you reach for one of the best credit cards for booking cruises to reserve that short voyage to Bermuda, here are some key things to know about the trips:

Ports Of Call For Cruises From New York To Bermuda

Go shopping in Hamilton, or descend into the mystical Crystal Caves, where youll find pristine pools of water and thousands of stalagmite and stalactite formations.

Will It Be Safe

First of all, it remains to be seen if ships will be calling in Bermuda, especially if we look at the distances involved to the Bahamas, where most companies have private islands, and the flight times to Bermuda compared to the Caribbean Islands.

The safety aspect will be the same procedures as other islands have said they will be adhering to. According to Mr. Scott, there has been a significant framework developed already:

All guests will need to be fully vaccinated. At the same time, Bermuda has a robust and proven COVID-19 response plan to mitigate the viruss importation through legislation, rigorous PCR Nasal Pharyngeal testing, and contact tracing.

Bermudas National Drink The Rum Swizzle

Bermuda is known for 2 drinks, the Rum Swizzle and the Dark and Stormy, both made with Goslings Rum. Ive had both, but the Rum Swizzle is one of my all time favorites an I now even make a version at home.

Youll find Rum Swizzles at quite a few bars and restaurants in Bermuda, however the OG is the is the Swizzle Inn.

5. The Swizzle Inn

This well known pub and restaurant is home to the original Rum Swizzle. If youre planning a day, consider coming here for a casual lunch or dinner after visiting Crystal Caves or another sight. Rum Swizzles can be pretty addictive consider getting a pitcher and sharing.

The Swizzle Inn expanded and now has 2 locations the most recent in the Western part of the island in Warwick . It has the same nice pub style menu, relaxed patio environment and of course, their famous Rum Swizzle.

Let me be the first to say that eating at Swizzle Inn was not cheap, however at about $20 a person it wasnt super expensive either. Plus, if you visit on your own, youll be saving a lot over using a cruise ship excursion.

Tip You may want to visit the shop and bring home a Swizzle Inn t-shirt as a souvenir.

Norwegian Cruise Line Informs Guests On Requirements For Bermuda Sailings

Norwegian Cruise Line updates guests and travel agents on requirements for cruise visitors on Bermuda sailings.

Guests sailing from New York City now and through the coming weeks to Bermuda onboard Norwegian Breakaway will need to complete one more hurdle before they can board a cruise. The cruise line released new protocols this month, including more testing and registering to the Bermuda tourism authority at a cost.

Remember that these protocols have been established as a requirement from Bermuda, not from Norwegian Cruise Line.

Best Time Of Year To Take A Bermuda Cruise: Ship Selection

While not as populous with cruise ships as the Caribbean or Bahamas, you will still have a decent ship selection for a Bermuda cruise. Many major cruise lines have at least one ship sailing to Bermuda for at least part of the season. Many cruise ships even spend one or two overnight stays giving cruisers more time to explore.

While Florida is often referred to as the cruise capital of the world, you will probably have to head elsewhere for a cruise to Bermuda. Cruises to Bermuda are usually pretty popular with cruisers from the Northeast United States as many are within driving distance to a cruise port.

For instance, Norwegian Cruise Line offers round-trip Bermuda sailings from Boston, MA and New York, NY.

In 2021 and 2022, Carnival Cruise Line will sail to Bermuda from Baltimore, MD New York, NY and Norfolk, VA. Additionally, Celebrity Cruises sails from Cape Liberty, NJ, while Disney Cruise Line sails from New York, NY. Royal Caribbean also offers sailings from Cape Liberty, NJ and Baltimore, MD. For the first time in 2022, Royal Caribbean will be offering Bermuda cruises from Port Canaveral, FL.

While Norwegian Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean, and Celebrity Cruises have the largest presence in Bermuda, other more luxury brands like Oceania, Regent Seven Seas, and Silversea, as well as select sailings from Princess Cruises and Windstar Cruises also call in Bermuda.

Further, select smaller ships might have occasional visits to the smaller ports of Hamilton or St. George.

Bermuda Is Open For Travel Heres What You Need To Know

For the first time ever, a major cruise line is going to homeport in Bermuda and its going to be a major factor in the islands post-COVID recovery. The island has done an incredible job limiting infections over the past year compared to some other popular cruising islands and the local government is keen on following all health and safety protocols to ensure visitors are safe when they embark from the island.

Royal Caribbean Subsidizing Flights From New York To Bermuda For Summer 2021 Cruises As Low As $99

Royal Caribbean really wants people to book a cruise on Vision of the Seas this summer.

Royal Caribbean’s Senior Vice President, Sales, Trade Support and Service, Vicki Freed, hosted a webinar for travel agents on Wednesday where new discounts on flights for Vision of the Seas from Bermuda this summer were announced.

Royal Caribbean Senior Manager Renee Didier said that Royal Caribbean has renegotiated new airfare rates for these Vision of the Seas cruises, while also subsidizing fares if booked through the cruise line’s airline booking service, Air2Sea.

Rates are now as low as $99 per person roundtrip from Newark or LaGuardia airports in New York City.

“Your clients can now fly out of LaGuardia or Newark and pay $99 roundtrip.”

There were no example fares provided for other cities during the webinar, but it was inferred that lower rates could be found from other markets as well.

Comparing flights in June and July from New York to Bermuda on Flights.com, the lowest price per person shows up as $335 per person.

Rates for the Vision of the Seas cruises from Bermuda with airfare included could be as low as $649 per person, and less than $600 per person for third and fourth in the same room.

Ms. Freed added that Royal Caribbean has “taken risk” with these subsidized fares to get bookings going.

Beginning in June, Vision of the Seas will be sailing from Bermuda through August.

Vision’s sailings will include lots of time in Bermuda, as well as a stop at Perfect Day at CocoCay.

Bermudas Ports Of Call

A warm Bermuda welcome awaits you at one of these ports of call:

• King’s Wharf and Heritage Wharf, both located in the Royal Naval Dockyard on Ireland Island North at the western tip of the island.
• Hamilton Harbour, located in the islands capital, the City of Hamilton.
• St. George’s Port in St. George’s Harbour

The island is only 21-square miles, so anything you want to see and do should be within reach.

Pcr Testing 96 Hours Prior To Departure

Bermuda requires all guests entering the country by cruise ship to take a COVID-19 PCR test within 96-hours before their cruise. This test is on top of the other testing that Norwegian Cruise Line already requires and a letter has already been sent out with the details to travel agents and guests.

Once guests have taken the PCR test, they should register on the Bermuda Tourism website. The negative test result from the PCR test should be uploaded to the Bermuda Tourism website within 72 hours before sailing.

Thats not all though. When guests register, they are also required to pay $75 for each person in their travel party. Therefore, a family of four traveling together onboard Norwegian Breakaway will be required to pay an additional $300 to the Bermuda authorities.

Once registration and payments have been made, the submissions will be assessed. Once successful, guests will be issued a travel authority number, which passengers must present at the terminal before boarding.

Once guests arrive in the terminal, they will also get an Antigen test and be required to undergo a further PCR swab test inside the terminal as part of the Bermuda pre-arrival requirements. The results will then be processed by an outside lab the following day, and the results will be sent to the ship.

What Is The Arrival Protocol For Cruise Passengers

We are cruising to Bermuda in July. I have read the Bermuda Government requirements for immunized people, but I am wondering how arrival covid testing is accomplished when you are on a cruise ship at the port for three days. It doesnt make sense that you would have to stay on the ship until you received a negative test result when you had to have a negative test result to get on the ship.

Ay present.there hasnt been a cruise arrival in Bermuda of any sort in Bermuda for over a year due to the Covid-19 crisis,. So, there is NO Covid arrival protocol in place for a non-event. When there are non-Bermuda based cruise arrivals, there will be one. What those protocols and requirements will be will be determined by government and public health authorities when cruise ships begin sailing from US ports.

Currently, there is a proposed plan by ROYAL CARIBBEAN CRUISE LINES for a 7-Day cruise aboard ..Vision of the Seas.. to be BASED IN BERMUDA and return to Bermuda for a , Passengers will arrive in Bermuda by air, board the ship for a cruise to a Royal Caribbean owned island in the Bahamas, ..Coco Cay.. and return to Bermuda, spending some time docked in Bermuda at the Royal Naval Dockyard, for a day, then out at sea cruising for a couple of days, a day at their Coco Cay amusement island, cruise back to Bermuda, and spend a couple of days and then fly back to the US This 7-day cruise will begin/board and end/disembark entirely IN Bermuda.
