As someone who travels from Boston to New York bimonthly, Ive been frustrated time and time again at expensive fares, inconvenient time tables, broken-down trains, and flights into airports far from the city center. However, on a recent trip to NYC I tested out LimoLiner, and had my first pleasant experience between the two cities in a long time.
With fares starting at $89 one-way, youre paying more than you would for a budget bus ticket, but less than typical air or train fares. These set fares mean you dont have to wonder if youre getting a good deal or not. Plus, the bus only makes one stop between Boston and New York City and then goes straight to Midtown, unlike budget buses that make stops along the way.

Get on the road first thing the next morning for the two-hour drive to North Adams, the home of the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art .

Taking The Bus From Boston To Nyc
Looking for the best prices for transportation? If you dont want to drive, the bus can be the best way to get from Boston to NYC on a limited budget. Bus tickets can be very affordable.
Youll find that there are several different bus companies that travel from Boston to NYC. These include the Peter Pan bus lines. Those buses leave from Bostons South Station bus station and arrive at the NYC Port Authority bus terminal in Manhattan.
Theres also the Greyhound buses, which depart and arrive from the same stations. These are fairly similar, so look at pricing and the schedule to decide which to take.
Cheap bus tickets are also available on the Bolt Bus. These buses offer free Wi-Fi and power outlets, and depart from Bostons South Station.
They can definitely be very cost-effective but arent as fun or convenient with kids. Id recommend these options more for adults traveling without children or adults with older kids.

Experience All Of Salem
Salem has much to offer and could easily be an overnight stop or a day trip from Boston.
Of the many tourist attractions related to the Salem witch trials, our favorite is the Salem Witch Memorial to the 20 men and women who were tried and executed. Fans of Nathaniel Hawthorne can also take a walk to see the House of the Seven Gables, the setting for the novel.
The Peabody Essex Museum is also a must-see. Its collection spans widely from maritime artifacts to Asian and African art.
While in Salem, make sure to go to the Punto Urban Art Museum on the other side of town. The area has extensive murals painted by local and internationally famous artists. It is part of an effort by the North Shore Community Development Corporation to use street art as a social justice and community development effort.
Once you are done in Salem, make the 40-minute drive to Boston where you will spend the next three days exploring the city.

Note that the LimoLiner ceased operations in December 2019, and is unfortunately no longer an option for travel. We really enjoyed the LimoLiner so we were disappointed when it shut down.
The LimoLiner is a luxury coach bus from Boston to NYC. It makes two stops in the Boston area in the Back Bay of downtown Boston and in Framingham, as well as one-stop in NYC at the Hilton Midtown. This luxury bus line has a restroom on board and provides complimentary meal service, beverages, and snacks .
With complimentary WiFi, power outlets at the seats, live satellite TV and radio, and an on-board attendant, your ride absolutely flies by. It does take a bit longer than the train or flying, but it can definitely be more convenient and more affordable.
Because the LimoLiner bus service has stops at popular locations, you may not even need to take a cab when you arrive. Living West of Boston, its so easy to get to Framingham much easier than driving east into Boston to just end up going west again. The LimoLiner is such a great option for families and they even offer pet-friendly trips at select times.
The LimoLiner is the same as driving, so youll want to be aware of driving conditions and weather. Traffic and road closures will definitely affect your travel time.
Be sure to purchase your bus ticket in advance, and youll get to choose your seat. When traveling with kids, youll want to make sure that you are sitting next to each other.
