The two teams will arrive in Iowa the day of the game. Because of the quick turnaround, MLB worked closely with the White Sox and Yankees on limiting travel as much as possible on game day. The two teams will fly into Dubuque and then bus to Dyersville the day of the game.
The Yankees are coming from Kansas City after wrapping up a series with the Royals, and the White Sox will fly in from Minnesota after finishing their series with the Twins. Their arrivals at the airport won’t be open to the public. Yolkut expects it to be about a 40-minute bus ride for the teams from Dubuque to Dyersville.
“We’re sensitive to not burdening the players with too much travel given that they’re flying in the same day that they’re playing,” he said.

The PIX11 broadcast schedule for the 27-time World Series champions started on April 18, when the Yankees hosted the defending American League Champions Tampa Bay Rays. The game was the first of 21 regular season broadcastsof Yankee games airing exclusively on PIX11. Other key matchups include:
- Friday, July 2 The Yankees will host the New York Mets in the first game of the Subway Series against their crosstown rival.
- Friday, July 23 The Yankees will travel to Boston to face the Red Sox. This is the first of three games between the Yankees and the Red Sox on PIX11 in the 2021 season. The other two games will be on August 17 and Sept. 24.
- Wednesday, Sept. 29 PIX11 will wrap up its 2021 Yankees broadcast schedule with an away game against the Toronto Blue Jays.
In addition to airing regular season games, PIX11 will produce pregame specials for many of its primetime Yankees broadcasts, featuring the PIX11 Sports Team of Andy Adler, Joe Mauceri and Justin Walters.

Neither of the teams will stay in Iowa. They’ll not only arrive the day of the game, but after it’s finished, they’ll pack up, shower, get on a bus and head back to the airport to fly to Chicago. The following day is a built in off-day for the two teams in case Thursday’s game in Dyersville has to be pushed back because of any weather hiccups. Their next scheduled game is Saturday in Chicago.
It will make for a long day but Yolkut said MLB has talked to reps from both teams who have relayed how excited players are for the event.
“I think similar to our fans, they’re wondering what it’s going to be like,” he said.

It seems appropriate that in the final minute of their season, the Yankees secured a trip to the postseason on their final pitch of the season. And it seems that method was not a big homer but a single that barely reached the infield as a symbol of the offensive difficulties the Yankees encountered throughout the strange trip this season turned out to be.
The next stop is Boston for a winner take all affair and a date with the nemesis Tampa Bay Rays. The path for their first title since 2009 is that way because of things like eight losses to Baltimore, the run of worst losses of the season from about mid-June to the final week of July.

A group of investors, led by Cleveland-based shipbuilder George Steinbrenner , purchased the club from CBS in 1973, for $8.7 million. Mike Burke stayed on as president until he quit in April. Within a year, Steinbrenner bought out most of his other partners and became the team’s principal owner, although Burke continued to hold a minority share into the 1980s.
One of Steinbrenner’s major goals was to renovate Yankee Stadium. It had greatly deteriorated by the late 1960s, and the surrounding neighborhood had gone south as well. CBS initially suggested renovations, but the team needed to play elsewhere, and the Mets refused to open their home, Shea Stadium, to the Yankees. A new stadium in the Meadowlands, across the Hudson River in New Jersey, was suggested . Finally, in mid-1972, Mayor John Lindsay stepped in. The city bought the stadium and began an extensive two-year renovation period. Since the city also owned Shea Stadium, the Mets were forced to allow the Yankees to play two seasons there. The renovations modernized the look of the stadium, significantly altered the dimensions, and reconfigured some of the seating.
In 1973, Steinbrenner started the rule as the second MLB team with a personal appearance policy that includes being clean-shaven, with long hair slicked back or trimmed. This rule is still in effect today, and enforced by his sons after George’s passing. The Cincinnati Reds had the same personal appearance policy from 1967 until 1999.
