Meester Proved She Was Meant To Play Blair Waldorf

Although Meester seems like the natural fit for Blair Waldorf now, her connection to the character was not always so apparent.

Executive producer Schwartz told Vanity Fair in 2017, “She came in and she was really funny, and really smart and played vulnerable. But there was one problem: She was blonde. And Blake was blonde, obviously Serena had to be blonde. So, went to the sink and dyed her hair. She wanted it.'”

In the same Vanity Fair interview, Chace Crawford, who played Nate, recalled thinking, “I just don’t see her as Blair Waldorf. I can’t see it,” the first time he met Meester at auditions.

But Crawford’s mind was quickly changed when Meester turned around “slyly in her chair,” sporting Blair’s iconic headband.

After that, he said “I just remember thinking, ‘That girl can act. She’s the perfect girl for this.'”

Gossip Girl Was Based On A Book Series By Cecily Von Ziegesar And The Author Had One Major Issue With The Tv Adaptation

“Gossip Girl” is based on a book series by Cecily von Ziegesar.

Though she said she enjoyed watching “Gossip Girl,” von Ziegesar told MTV in 2008 that she did have a major problem with the show.

“I think Vanessa is one character they ruined. In the book, she’s kick-ass and has a shaved head and wears lots of black …” the author said. “I think a lot of the readers who don’t usually read teen fiction identify with Vanessa.”

She continued, “Even though I don’t like Vanessa’s character, it’s nothing against Jessica . I just wish Vanessa was like she is in the books a bit more.”

Real Upper East Side Teens Had A Few Issues With How The Students Were Portrayed On The Show

“Gossip Girl” was known for its over-the-top portrayal of New York City’s elite, so it’s not exactly surprising that it received backlash from its real-life counterparts.

According to The Sun, some New York City students said that their schools even imposed bans on watching the show.

Mina Beveney, a 2007 alumna of the Spence School on the Upper East Side, told the publication that although there are “parallels,” much of what the show depicts isn’t realistic.

“I don’t understand how they’re glamorously not doing five hours of homework a night,” she said.

The Lotte New York Palace Hotel is used as the home of Chuck Bass, as well as the Van der Woodsen family on “Gossip Girl.” Scenes were shot throughout the hotel from the open courtyard to what is now known as The Gold Room, where Serena Van der Woodsen sipped the hotel’s signature drink, “The Queen of Mean.”

The restaurant GILT was also formerly located in the New York Palace Hotel and was well-known for being featured in a scene where Serena enjoys a grilled cheese sandwich with truffles. GILT is now closed.

The Van Der Woodsen Penthouse

Otherwise known as Serenas lair or Lilly Bass penthouse, this penthouse was one of the most heavily used sets on Gossip Girl, not to mention one of the most stylish.

Showcasing Lillys impeccable taste in art and decor, the Van der Woodsen penthouse served as home to the entire extended family, with Chuck, Rufus, Dan, and Jenny all calling it home at one point.

In the first season of Gossip Girl, the Van der Woodsens live at the Palace the Bass-owned hotel, courtesy of Bart Bass while their penthouse is being redecorated. They move back into the penthouse towards the end of the season, with Bart and Chuck Bass joining them.

The modern living room of the Van der Woodsens, home to many, many scenes throughout the show, is done up in red, white, and turquoise, and is a delight to look at.

Its a mix of sharp modern lines , touches of Asian influence , and even a glimpse of traditional flair . And lets not forget the finishing touches: a pop art portrait and a shrine to the all-mighty Prada.

As the story goes, the fictional apartment is set in a high rise on the East Side, not too far from the Palace Hotel. Cece Rhodes bought the penthouse as a gift for Lillys first wedding with Serenas father, William for tax purposes, of course.

Towards the end of the show, the penthouse becomes the subject of a bitter ownership battle, as Cece leaves it as inheritance to her fake granddaughter, Ivy, but the Van der Woodsens manage to get it back.
