Fast fashion is a boon for business. The constant introduction of new products encourages customers to frequent stores more often, which means they end up making more purchases. The retailer does not replenish its stockinstead, it replaces items that sell out with new items. I decided to expand my wardrobe with some colorful pieces. NY& C was having a sale and I decided to get a number of things. I really wanted palazzo pants so I bought outfits in three colors. None of them fit correctly, so I returned them within the time frame given. BEWARE!!! They say that you have 45 days to return the items FROM THE DATE OF PURCHASE even though they can take a week or so to deliver!! Then, when you return and use their UPS return label, they want to charge you $5 and take an additional 5 days to get it back to them!! I ordered on 7-18-21, got it around 7-26-21 or later and sent it back with the return label on 8-27-21. For some strange reason, the UPS label said they received it on 9-1-21 AND THEY OFFERED A MEAGER 15% OFF MY NEXT ORDER WHILE STILL REFUSING TO REFUND MY $140!! When I called them out for keeping the new clothes AND my money, they offered to send the clothes back, but I have no use for clothes that don’t fit!! After a few weeks of back and forth emails, I reached out to my credit card company to file a dispute and I don’t plan on EVER ordering again!!

New York City Has A Plan To Fight Fast Fashion Waste Heres How It Works
Each year, 200 million pounds of clothing ends up in New York Citys landfill sites the equivalent of filling the Statue of Liberty with garments 440 times.
To combat the massive problem of clothing waste, fashion brands, authorities, collectors, recyclers and resale companies are working with the #WearNext campaign to collect donations from across the city, to give old clothes a new lease of life. The campaign is part of the Ellen MacArthur Foundations Make Fashion Circular initiative, which is leading a global effort to establish a circular business model for the apparel industry.
As customers, we know where we buy our clothes and we know where we have worn them, but #WearNext is about the next stage of that journey where do our clothes go when we have finished with them? explains Francois Souchet, Make Fashion Circular lead.
Between 4 March and 9 June, New Yorkers can drop off their old clothes at participating stores and other locations across the city. And to make donating easier, the NYC Department of Sanitation has created an online map of 1,100 collection points.The campaign, which has support from major brands including Gap, Banana Republic, ASOS and Zara, encourages the citys population to swap, sell or repair their old clothes and post their experiences on social media using the #WearNext hashtag.

A Natural Fiber For Sustainable Fabrics
Spinnova, a sustainable fiber company based in Finland, was founded by scientists studying the properties of cellulose at the Technical Research Center of Finland . Inspired by the strength and flexibility of natural spider web silks, which are similar to cellulose, the team left the institute to create emission-free cellulose fibers. These fibers are similar to cotton, but they take less energy and water to produce than cotton fibers. They are also much more sustainable than synthetic, petrochemical-based textiles.

The novel process starts with pulp consisting of wood that has been broken down by various chemicals. In the paper industry, that pulp would undergo further chemical treatment and be made into paper products. The Spinnova process grinds the pulp mechanically to generate a paste-like material. Biodegradable polymers are added to create a gel-like suspension, which is extruded through very thin nozzles at high pressures to form filaments. The filaments are heated and dried to produce white, fluffy fibers.

Buying quality clothes is the first step in ensuring that your outfits last. Once they make it into your closet, you also have to maintain them.
Fine fabrics like silk, for example, require a lot more attention and a lot more care, said Ms. Harrington.
As an example, bras last longer when theyre hand washed or at least placed in a lingerie bag and washed on the gentle cycle.
They should also be hung to dry, because the worst thing for your underwear is putting it in the dryer, said Ms. Harrington. And that’s because heat destroys elastic.
That is a rule of thumb that extends to other elastic items, like workout gear, and even T-shirts and jeans. Wash in cold water and hang to dry, or at least tumble dry at low temperatures.
Beyond keeping your clothes clean, Ms. Semaan said, you need to learn how to care for your item if you care about sustainability because if a seam falls out, or a button falls out, you have to learn how to care for your items.
And its not just clothes that that can benefit from a little extra care. You can extend the life of a pair of shoes by spraying them with a water and stain-repellent spray. Its just an added layer of protection on the skin or the suede and what it basically is going to do is create a little shield, said Mr. Mesquita.

If something feels rough to the touch its not going to feel comfortable on your body, said Cora Harrington, the author of the book In Intimate Detail and the founder and editor-in chief of The Lingerie Addict website.
This is especially true for undergarments, like bras, but it extends to all garments. If it doesn’t feel comfortable, said Dr. Ritch, youre going to dispose of it more quickly.
If wool sweaters make you itch, for example, dont buy them.
Of course as with much of navigating the current fashion landscape, this means factoring in trade-offs. Growing cotton, a comfortable fabric mainstay, is one of the largest uses of agricultural pesticides. And while organic cotton uses fewer pesticides, it uses more water. Many things would need to change to entirely transform the industry, but weve had hundreds of meetings with brands and major retailers, and there is some great work going on.
Spinnovas Berlin agrees that the responsibility to invoke change is not just on companies, but also on consumers. Awareness is the key to moving away from fast fashion. It is essential that people understand what goes into the polyester, viscose, or cotton supply chains and how their clothing impacts the environment, says Berlin.
In general, society as a whole must dispose of the use-and-throw-away mindset that has become ubiquitous in this age, particularly in terms of packaging, food, and clothing. As the environmental impact of human activities is becoming more apparent and concerning than ever, consumers should consider their choices in every aspect of their lives, including fashion.

So the clothes are very inexpensive so I am not surprised at the poor quality. I totally believe in the saying “you get what you pay for”. I have been a long time customer of this company and have noticed a significant decline in the quality of merchandise they are selling. I purchased 3 pairs of dress shorts a few weeks ago and they were only $10.00 each but two of them seemed to be made differently so I was going to return them but noticed there is a $6.95 charge for using their return label which in all my years of ordering online usually the return is free. I think this will be the last time I purchase any product from this company. My advice to the the ladies who want to purchase from this company read the fine print before ordering.
