What Should I Take To Washington

As a general rule, I advise you to wear comfortable clothes and shoes suitable for walking for a whole day. Even if you take the bus you will have to walk a bit to visit each monument. Washington DC is a very elegant city and its inhabitants dress accordingly: outfits here are usually more smart than casual. You won’t find too many people wearing flip-flops, shorts or a t-shirt, so if you don’t want to be obviously spotted as a tourist it’s best to avoid this type of clothing.

Lets say you are working in New York City and have a business meeting in Washington, DC. Should you fly or take the Amtrak train? Which is the best option for this route?

The northeast corridor is a popular route for business travelers between major cities like DC, Philadelphia, NYC and Boston. There are multiple flight and train options, but deciding which one is the best for business travelers depends on a few variables including cost of ticket, timetables, door to door travel times, distance to the airport or major train station, ancillary costs, seating and wifi.

To put these options to the test, two of our employees traveled from the Cosmopolitan Hotel Tribeca in NYC to a meeting in DC. One on a train, the other on a plane.

What Is The Fastest Way To Get From Washington Dc To New York City

Although the plane is the quickest journey, once you factor in all of the additional time it takes to get to and from the airport, check in for your flight, go through security, and wait at your gate, it actually takes much longer than the train. Amtrak service brings passengers from Union Station in Washington directly to Penn Station in Manhattan, saving you nearly two hours of travel time just from commuting to airports. The time of the journey from city center to city center depends on which train you choose, with the fastest ones arriving in two and a half hours and others taking up to four hours.

Tickets start at $54 for a coach seat, but those quickly sell out and you may be stuck paying for business class, which costs anywhere from $130 to over $300. If you don’t see a coach ticket available at the time you want to leave, try looking at other trains throughout the day. Amtrak offers up to 40 daily trips on this popular route, so chances are you can find a more affordable ticket at another time.

We are planning to travel to New York city and Washington DC area during new year season this year for about a week. My family will be flying from Wyoming. We are interested to visit New York, DC and Niagara Falls. Any recommendations on where to fly from Wyoming, where to stay and best way to travel on ground?

Look for an open jaw flight to one of the NYC area airports and returning from one of the Washington area airports, or vice versa. Travel between NYC and Washington by train. Amtrak Northeast Regional trains are your best bet. Acela trains are slightly faster but much more expensive.

Niagara Falls is nowhere near NYC or Washington. It’s about 400 miles from NYC. If you really want to go in the winter you should fly toBuffalo.

Auden has raised an important point. You have not asked our advice on WHETHER to go to Niagara Falls. However, to me, your itinerary for 1 week will leave you little time to enjoy NYC and DC. (This is separate from the interrelated issues of the relative “Wow” of Niagara Falls and the frigid weather. If it were me, I would trim your itinerary to eliminate Niagara Falls, at least on this trip.

It might help readers if you could indicate to where your parents will be returning. And:your tastes and travel, interests in NYC and DC, your budget ,

Niagara Falls in january – ever seen photos of the Falls that time of year?

As others have suggested – stay in the cities.
