Brooklyn Nets Portland Trail Blazers

Player To Watch: Josh Hart

Brooklyn Nets Highlights vs. Portland Trail Blazers | 3.23.21

With all the Blazers lead scoring options out injured, Hart has had to do a lot more than were used to. Since the trade from the New Orleans Pelicans, Hart has averaged around 19 points on a .474/.357/.765 shooting split. His usage rate has skyrocketed, but hes maintained his productivity despite the new responsibilities. Hart is someone that will likely be in the Blazers plans going forward, and having a player like him would help the Blazers get back to respectability and playoff contention.

The great thing about Kevin Durant is that even if you throw every defender you have at him, hell always make the right basketball play. Jason Kidd and the Mavs sent the most double teams KD has seen as a member of the Nets, and he was able to handle it. He was less efficient from the field than he normally is , but he handed out 10 assists and kept the offense moving along. Durant does everything you need to win and with two days off before a tough matchup against the Utah Jazz on Monday night, the coaching staff can put a bit more on his shoulders so he can bring home the W for the hometown faithful.

What Others Are Saying

Bruce Brown is having a great season according to Kristian Winfield the New York Daily News.

Brown has proven, however, that under the right circumstances, he can thrive and be a complete player at his position. He has improved the glaring hole in his game a previously broken three-point shot that is falling now with regularity and Durant says the improvements arent coming to an end any time soon.

Alex Shiffer of the Athletic writes that the point guard position is going to be kind of an issue for the Nets.

Dragis role going forward becomes even more crucial after Nash announced Simmons rehab remains on hold until the Nets performance team sees how Simmons back takes to the epidural. Simmons has a history of back troubles. He missed eight games in the 2019-20 season because of nerve issues in his lower back and had a nerve impingement in the same area last season. According to former Sixers coach Brett Brown, one time in Milwaukee, the pain from the impingement had Simmons vomiting. Nash said surgery hasnt been discussed for Simmons. With Irving eligible for three of the final 12 games and with the citys timetable on lifting the mandate unknown, Dragi will likely be Brooklyns primary point guard for the rest of the season and possibly into the playoffs.

Nets Vs Trail Blazers Match Prediction

The Portland Trail Blazers will play three games over the next five days starting Friday night with the Brooklyn Nets.

The Nets, eighth in the Eastern Conference, have been dealing with a lot of turmoil this season and have gone 5-5 over their last 10 games.

They will be without Kyrie Irving against the Blazers. He remains ineligible to play home games because of his refusal to be vaccinated. Under the New York City-based mandate, workers who perform in-person work must be vaccinated.

Reportedly, Irvings refusal to be vaccinated while missing at least half of the season, prompted All-Star guard James Harden to seek a trade. He landed in Philadelphia in a deal for Ben Simmons, who was a holdout while refusing to play for the 76ers.

Simmons, however, is working to improve his conditioning for a return and will not play against the Blazers.

Irvings stance has certainly cost the Nets victories. But it probably wont against the Blazers, who will once again be without point guard Anfernee Simons while Brooklyn still has Kevin Durant.

Brandon Williams has been starting in his place and is being backed up by veteran Kris Dunn, recently signed to a 10-day contract.

Wednesday at Atlanta, Dunns second game with the Blazers, he contributed 13 points and seven assists.

Portland Trail Blazers Preview

The Portland Trail Blazers already find themselves in a tough spot in the 2021-22 NBA season with a 15-24 record. Lack of depth, poor form and plenty of injuries have hampered their campaign since the end of November. They have lost 15 of their last 20 games during that stretch.

The Trail Blazers will be without their top-three scorers when they host the Brooklyn Nets. Damian Lillard , Norman Powell and CJ McCollum , are all ruled out of the game.

It will be an uphill task for them to prevail against Kevin Durant and Co. Anfernee Simons and Jusuf Nurkic will have to carry the majority of the load in this contest.

The duo did that in the Trail Blazers’ last game against the Kings. Simons recorded 31 points on 11 of 17 shooting , while Nurkic finished the game with a near triple-double, bagging 14 points, 16 rebounds and nine assists. If they can replicate that kind of a performance against the Nets, Portland will have a great chance of causing an upset.

Nets Pull Out Win Against Persistent Trail Blazers

If effort alone won games, Portland would be undefeated.

March Madness isnt confined to the NCAA Basketball Tournament. Every once in a while, the fever and unexpected momentum that infect the college game also inhabit NBA courts. That was the case tonight as the Portland Trail Blazers faced the Brooklyn Nets.

Brooklyn carried a serious talent edge, a better record, and a dominant player in forward Kevin Durant. Portland fielded no recognizable faces, a mid-major hopeful in the land of Bracket Behemoths.

But Portland gave Brooklyn a run for their money worthy of a tournament tale. Durant scored 38, but Portland forced 21 turnovers, grabbed 17 offensive rebounds, and scored 21 on the break, matching the Nets bucket for bucket.

But dirty work and cheek can only get you so far. In the end, Brooklyn pulled away behind three-point shooting and decent, if tardy, transition defense, taking out Portland 128-123. Josh Hart led the Blazers with 25, guard Brandon Williams adding 24.

Lillard Blazers Escape Nets Advance To Play

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — With the season threatening to slip away, Damian Lillard decided it was time to shoot, even though he was so far his foot was touching the logo near midcourt.

A few minutes later, he flung his body to the floor near the same spot, coming up with a steal that was the biggest defensive play of the game.

Lillard did it all to give Portland a spot in the NBA’s first play-in series, scoring 42 points to help the Trail Blazers escape with a 134-133 victory over the Brooklyn Nets on Thursday night.

“The urgency, the energy, the pace, everything, just felt like something was on the line,” LIllard said.

The Trail Blazers secured the No. 8 seed in the Western Conference only after Brooklyn’s Caris LeVert, who scored 37 points, missed a jumper just before time expired. Portland will play ninth-seeded Memphis on Saturday. If the Grizzlies win, the deciding game would be Sunday.

The winner of the play-in series gets the final spot in the West and a first-round series against the Los Angeles Lakers.

Portland came into the day in eighth place, but would have fallen out of playoff position with a loss, thanks to victories earlier Thursday by Memphis and Phoenix. Had the Blazers lost, the Suns would have inched ahead of them into ninth.

But Lillard wouldn’t let the Blazers fall, following his games of 51 and 61 points in the previous two games not only with more sensational scoring but also with a huge defensive play.

Brooklyn Nets vs Portland Trail Blazers Full Game Highlights | Jan 10, 2022 | FreeDawkins

PORTLAND, Ore. Anfernee Simons had 23 points and 11 assists, and the short-handed Portland Trail Blazers took advantage of James Harden’s absence for a 114-108 victory over the Brooklyn Nets on Monday night.

Harden was out with a hyperextended left knee. Kyrie Irving started in his second game of the season and finished with 22 points. Kevin Durant led all scorers with 28 points and 10 rebounds for the Nets.

Robert Covington had 21 points, including five 3-pointers, for the Blazers, who saw all five starters score in double figures.

Simons said Covington’s play against Durant boosted the team.

”I think RoCo did a good job of playing him the second half,” Simons said. ”So that was that was big for us to slow him down and just kind of play team defense. We’ve been playing very hard, we’ve been making a lot less mistakes on defense. That’s been helping us.”

Monday’s game was originally scheduled for Dec. 23 but was postponed because of COVID-19 issues. In making up the game, both teams were playing the second of back-to-backs.

Portland led 87-81 going into the final quarter. Covington’s 3-pointer put Portland up 107-100 with 2:15 to go but the Nets closed within 110-105 down the stretch.

Ben McLemore’s 3 with 31.9 seconds left made it 113-105 and sealed it for Portland. McLemore finished with 20 points and five 3s.

Blazers Topple Durant Nets With Balanced Attack

Portland shoots and defends their way to a big win.

The Portland Trail Blazers have struggled through their recent homestand, but they finished it strong on Monday night in a COVID make-up game against Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, and the Brooklyn Nets. Brooklyns big stars both topped 20Durant in the first halfbut they were battling fatigue and a surprisingly active Portland defense all night. The Blazers forced turnovers, rebounded, and went big from beyond the arc, playing around the Nets defense instead of going through it. Brooklyn, and frankly everyone in the crowd, kept waiting for a Durant-led barrage in the second half. It never came. The Blazers kept making opportunistic plays until the final horn sounded. When it did, Portland had earned a 114-108 victory.

Six Blazers hit double-figures in the win, led by Anfernee Simons with 23, Robert Covington with 21, and Ben McLemore with 20, including the threes that sealed the game.
