The Bronx Educational Opportunity Center offers free GED prep classes. Students most prove eligibility in the areas of literacy and income. Once a student receives his GED, he becomes eligible to enroll in BCC college courses and to receive continued support, including peer monitoring, career counseling, internships and individual tutoring.

Advance And Earn Woodlawn Preservation Training Program
CURRENTLY RECRUITING FOR UPCOMING MASONRY & LANDSCAPING PROGRAMS!
Our 20-week training program offers a 10-week paid internship, MetroCards for transportation, certifications , incentives for benchmarks throughout the program, and job placement assistance!
This program is for young adults interested in a career in masonry, landscaping, or construction. It is operated in partnership with The Door and the Woodlawn Cemetery & Conservancy with funding provided by DYCD Advance & Earn and The World Monuments Fund.
The Woodlawn Conservation Training Program will select 30 young adults for the landscaping and 20 individuals for the masonry program per year. These young adults will receive specialized hands-on training under the guidance of expert instructors from the Davey Tree Expert Company and the International Masonry Institute.

Timeline For Getting A Ged
How long does it take to get your GED? That depends, but on average its about 2-4 months. Many people study one subject at a time for about 3 weeks and then take that subjects test. Another option is to study all four subjects for about three months and then take all of the tests in one day.
Every student is different. The important thing is to find the regimen and study schedule that works for you. Success has no time frame!

Ged In New York Is No More
Beginning this year, New Yorkers will no longer be able to say Im getting my GED!
Any person in New York who wishes to earn a High School Equivalency diploma can no longer do so by taking the General Education Development test, or GED. Instead, he or she will have to take the states new official High School Equivalency assessment, called the Test Assessing Secondary Completion, or TASC.
The replacement comes after the state Education Department announced it would no longer use the GED because an updated version of the test would be more expensive and entirely computer-based.
For the past decade, the GED was the only way adult learners and students in New York could get their New York State High School Equivalency diploma.
According to TASCs website, New Jersey, West Virginia, Wyoming, Indiana and Nevada have also dropped the GED in favor of the TASC.
According to Karen Rowe, director of Oneontas Adult Education program, the GED used to be made and owned by a nonprofit company, but was bought out in 2012 by education and publishing company Pearson. Together, Pearson and the American Council on Education created the for-profit General Educational Developmental Testing Service, or GEDTS.
In response, state Education Department Commissioner John B. King Jr. announced in May that the department would move away from the GED in favor of another HSE test that would be more affordable and accessible while still in line with the Common Core.

Advance And Earn Plus
Our Advance and Earn Plus program is an HSE program for youth who have been or currently are in Foster Care or have received services through a FAP program or a Juvenile Justice program AND are looking to earn their HSE diploma. For this program, you will need to be verified as having been in foster care by ACS. Students are eligible for an internship or a stipend for attending classes weekly dependent on which class they test in. Youth who are in our Advance and Earn Plus program are also provided a coach and additional support around job readiness and placement. Admission for this program is rolling.

Center For Achieving Future Education
The BronxWorks Center for Achieving Future Education is a program that helps young people and their families with a potentially critical life stage: the transition from high school and/or HSE completion to college. CAFE also helps students prepare for a college career. The programâs services include:

- Individual college counseling
- Visits to colleges and college fairs

Adult Basic Education Program
The Adult Basic Education Program is a program that focuses on improving your Math and Literacy Skills. You must be between the ages of 18-24 and discharged from high school. Participants will have the ability to receive financial incentives. Students who are in this class tend to be successful and work towards a specific goal of improvement. This class meets from 11 am-1 pm Monday-Thursday on Zoom, and additional assignments on Google Classroom.
