Five Carnival Ships To Restart Through November And December
So lets start with the big news from the week with Carnival Cruise Line announcing which ships will be resuming operations through November and December. Its not all gone to plan as just five Carnival ships will return through the two months. The fleet wont be fully back in action before the end of the year which was the first hope.
- Carnival Valor will follow Carnival Glory in New Orleans with four- and five-night sailings starting on Nov. 1
- Carnival Legend will restart Nov. 14 out of Baltimore, replacing Carnival Pride, which restarts guest operations from Baltimore Sept. 12 and then moves its homeport to Tampa following a Panama Canal repositioning cruise
- Carnival Radiance will have a new maiden voyage date of Dec. 13 out of Long Beach
- Carnival Prides new service from Tampa is scheduled to start on Nov. 14
- Carnival Conquests restart from Miami on Oct. 8 has been rescheduled to Dec. 13
- Carnival Sensations Oct. 21 restart from Mobile has been moved to Jan. 2022
Five vessels in total will return in 2022, including Carnival Liberty out of Port Canaveral, Carnival Sunshine from Charleston, Carnival Paradise from Tampa, Carnival Ecstasy out of Jacksonville, and Carnival Sensation out of Mobile. That does mean further cancellations as those ships remain on hold longer than expected.

Why Is The United States Lagging
Major cruise companies are waiting for the C.D.C. to issue technical requirements to help them prepare their ships for sailings. They must then give the C.D.C. 30 days notice before starting test cruises with volunteer crew and passengers and will have to apply for a conditional sailing certificate 60 days before a planned regular voyage.
The reality is that there was no way the cruise lines could adhere to the guidelines the C.D.C. set back in October and start sailing again because they provided two-thirds of the pieces for the puzzlesaid Stewart Chiron, a cruise industry analyst and C.E.O. of the site cruiseguy.com, referring to the missing technical details in the conditional sailing order.
They are waiting for it now and they expect them to update their guidance because it was issued before the vaccines were rolled out and a lot has changed since then, Mr. Chiron added.
Cruise executives say they expect the C.D.C. to issue the technical requirements soon.

Will Vaccinations Be Required
Some companies are reluctant to depend on testing alone, after the SeaDream 1, a ship that had aspired to be a model for a safe return to cruising, cut short its Caribbean voyage last year because several passengers tested positive for the coronavirus, despite the fact theyd had a negative test before boarding.
Most major cruise lines have not decided whether they will require vaccinations for future sailings and are waiting for further scientific guidance once inoculation becomes more widespread around the globe.
In Britain, Saga Cruises and P & O said that they would require all guests to be fully vaccinated before boarding their ships throughout 2021. Royal Caribbean announced sailings from Israel to Greece in May, where all crew members and passengers over the age of 16 must be vaccinated.

Due to the Coronavirus crisis, NCLH’s entire fleet is with an expanded cancellation policy. All bookings on pre-scheduled itineraries were given the option to cancel without penalties.
Eventually, NCLH canceled all NCL cruises leaving between March 14, 2020, and July 2021.
Next are listed all NCL ships and their scheduled first departure dates/homeports in 2021-2022 – BLISS , BREAKAWAY , DAWN , ENCORE , EPIC , ESCAPE , GEM , GETAWAY , JADE , JEWEL , JOY , PEARL , SKY , SPIRIT , STAR , SUN , PRIMA , PRIDE OF AMERICA .
- In late-March 2021, NCL canceled through October-November all voyages scheduled for the ships ENCORE , JEWEL , Sun , BLISS , JADE , JOY , GEM .
- In early-April 2021, NCL announced new schedules for the ships JADE , JOY and GEM . Previously the boats were planned to restart as follows – JOY , GEM , JADE . JOY’s ex-Greece program was canceled in May. GEM’s ex-Dominicana program was canceled in June.

Exclusive: Nyc To Reopen Cruise Terminals In Late September
New York City plans to welcome cruise ships back to its Manhattan terminal starting in late September, amNewYork Metro has learned.
The citys quasi-public Economic Development Corporation will allow the mega ships back to Big Apple berths for the first time since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020, according to agency spokesman Chris Singleton.
We are working with two cruise lines to resume sailings out of NYC in late September, Singleton told amNewYork Metro in an email.
The agency expects about 50-60 cruise departures by the end of the citys current fiscal year on June 30, 2022, according to minutes of EDCs June 22 board of directors meeting.
The big boats will start docking at the EDCs Manhattan Cruise Terminal at Pier 88 and Pier 90, according to a presentation by the agencys assistant vice president for asset management Bianca Sosa from the June meeting.
Pier 90 hosted the enormous US Navy hospital ship USNS Comfort during the early pandemic, supposedly to support overflowing city hospitals, but the vessel sat largely empty for its month-long stay.
EDC also manages the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal next to the Atlantic Basin in Red Hook, but officials didnt say when they expect to reopen that dock.
Cruise ships were a hotbed of coronavirus infections early on in the pandemic, such as notorious outbreak aboard the ocean liner Diamond Princess in Japan in early 2020.
