Maneuvering Around A Year Of Uncertainty
Some dancers took to the virtual stage, showcasing talents like pole dancing or sword-swallowing. Others dipped into savings or explored options like streaming on Twitch.
One girl, who goes by Sandra, moved out of state to work and teach pole dancing somewhere the COVID-19 restrictions were not so severe. She found it hard to meet clients, however, who trusted her as a professional outside of her community in the city.
Content for platforms like OnlyFans, which involves a great deal of production like lighting and shooting, and editing, is not only less rewarding, some dancers tell me, but dangerous.
Its not a matter of when your content is gonna get stolen, Sunny tells me in a slightly more serious tone. Its a matter of when.
OnlyFans has no monitoring system that prohibits screen recording or sharing exclusive content. Those videos end up on a subreddit thread full of insults or attacks.
The stigma around stripping isnt just misguided, it is extremely dangerous. On the internet is perhaps where the stigma around stripping is most pervasive, and sex workers were not protected during the pandemic.
It takes time to learn how not to overwhelm yourself, or overdo things. Sometimes, if you come out once one night a week and you fully put all of yourself out to make the money, you wont have any energy left. And you know that you have to still work for days. You have to really learn your limits.
The 10 Most Infamous Nightclubs In New Yorks History
In the city that loves to boast about how little it sleeps, the nightclub has been the center of the universe since Jazz Age hipsters started desperately flocking to the Cotton Club in the 1920s. From the days of all-night jazz jams and hangover cures at the Plaza, the club scene in New York has undergone evolutions of pop, disco, punk, rock, trance, EDM and anything else that provides a sufficiently loud musical backdrop for sex, scandal, and the occasional bout of mayhem. Above all, these ten clubs mastered the art of debauchery and earned a place in nightlife history.

Best Club To Impress A Client: Ricks Cabaret
Midtown WestRicks Cabaret is an institution, with a reputation as the best strip club in NYC. Its famous for its dancers , its steakhouse , and for hosting Howard Sterns wildest parties . Winding steps snake through three levels, up to a rooftop smoking lounge. The club avoids the gauche, catering instead to refined sensibilities at every turn. The dancers are no exception — performers all look like the girls your teenage self gawked at in Playboys glossy pages.
Ricks has some extremely expensive options if you really want to impress a big fish client whos in town for the night. The Super Executive package includes a personal VIP host, a table in the section of your choosing, two super premium bottles of booze, and admission for up to 10. If you really want to close a deal with a client that happens to be into women, a trip to Ricks will give you the winning edge. If you work for yourself, Ricks has more affordable $75 Champagne room dances, too.
The East Williamsburg Strip Club Pumps Is Set To Reopen
New York nightlife is back.
Pumps, the East Williamsburg topless bar known for its strong drinks and lack of cover charge, announced it will fully reopen on July 1. The bar will return to its pre-pandemic hours: 3 p.m. to 4 a.m. on Monday through Friday and 4 p.m. to 4 a.m. on Saturday.
The entire staff is super excited and looking forward to the city reopening back to 100 percent, said Andy, the Brooklyn native who opened Pumps at 1089 Grand St. in 1997.
In previous conversations with Andy, he made it clear that Pumps, a blue-collar joint, is and always will remain separate from the expensive and upscale Gentlemens Clubs found in Manhattan. The Brooklyn staple has lived for 24 years and survived a global pandemic. Still, over all of that time, little has changed, and Andy plans to keep it that way.
As far as changes go, Pumps will remain Pumps, said Andy. Part of the beauty is, the dancers may change, but the place never changes. As of July 1st, when Pumps reopens, all of our pricing will remain the same.
Today New York State reached our goal of 70% adult vaccination, Cuomo Tweeted. That means we can return to life as we know it. Effective immediately, state-mandated COVID restrictions are lifted across commercial and social settings.

Pumps Brooklyn Is A Club Of Openness And Welcoming Authenticity
The sentiment is echoed by every dancer returning for the clubs reopening last week because they get to wear whatever they want, because their schedule is flexible and entirely of their choosing, because they love it here.
The girls had all their stuff here until two weeks ago I had girls coming to pick up money from lockers that werent even locked and its still here, Andy tells me. It is a club that has survived on an ethic of treating each other right.
I dont feel forced to be outside of who I am in here, a dancer who goes by Brandy, tells me, smoothing out their foundation in the well-lit mirror downstairs.
It is just the two of us in the locker room for a while, since she got here a little later than all the other girls because of work. Im a certified security guard and I have a F80 license to be a fire safety coordinator its a license to have someones life in my hands in a burning building or an emergency.
But I actually work in a womens homeless shelter. I help homeless women get off the street, help women on drugs get off the drugs to better their lives. This pandemic, I think, kind of screwed with everyone.
I tried other clubs in Manhattan and stuff I think Im too much of a stoner for the city.
The club, however, is well aware of the pandemic year.

“Im looking at your Instagram account all I see is booties,” board member T.J. Wilson said, before the chair asked members to “keep it PG-rated” “All I see are behinds and breasts…theres nothing but half-naked women.”
The type of establishment Amour presented itself as first became a sticking point a few months after it opened in 2018, according to the board.
Stripping Away The Stigma Of Stripping/dancing
Its old news to anyone in the industry that puritan standards built into the law allow the government to avoid sending aid to sex workers or sex work businesses. There is a stigma in many places around stripping, and that stigma goes all the way up to the government.
Andy himself spent almost all his savings keeping the lights on and the phone running.
During this past year in the pandemic, he and his wife have been selling merchandise to loyal fans and sending the profits to dancers, to keep the girls going. Most of them, as workers in nightlife or dancing and largely due to the stigma around stripping, have been out of work for over a year.
Its really insane a lot of my dancers didnt get anything. They had to go back to wherever they came from who knows why they left to begin with, Andy says.
It shows you that you can be who you want to be and it shows you that you can do anything. made me want to be bigger than Ive ever been And once I said I could do anything I just put my head to it.

This club is remarkably refined and caters to bonus-laden financial types with well-padded expense accounts…though they do offer special discounts, such as complimentary admission with ticket stubs from same-day sporting events and packages for groups of five to 10 people . The city’s most sought-after entertainersveterans of the New York/Las Vegas/Miami megaclub scenesperform here on the small stage that sits dead center, with two single-occupancy go-go platforms accommodating additional pole dancers upstairs. If your bonus hasnt arrived yet, not to worry: A Jackson is all you need.
This 10,000-square-foot club took over the old Scores space, but its a much classier affair: Inside, you’ll find VIP cabana lounges, a private Scarlet Room complete with mirrors, flat-screen TVs and leather upholstery and gorgeous dancers who are talented and courteous, whether youre there by yourself or with a group of friends. Best Club To Ball Out: Sapphire Ues
Upper East SideAt times, Sapphires Upper East Side location seems more like a sexy, opulent nightclub than a strip club. The adjacent steakhouse, Primal Cut, easily masquerades as an everyday upscale restaurant, boasting chefs who sharpened their knives at top spots throughout the city, including Peter Luger. Were it not for the exotic dancers sipping pricy cocktails with patrons at tables for two, you might mistake the steakhouse for a buttoned-up power lunch locale — and really, whos to say it isnt?
The club itself hosts several adult film stars per week as featured dancers. Past pros have included some of the top names in the industry, like Mia Malkova and Alexis Texas. Even the regular performers look like the most attractive adult film stars working today. Recently, a dancer on one of Sapphires two main stages bore a striking resemblance to Sasha Grey. Come by for $5 happy hour cocktails from 6-8pm on weekdays, or splurge on a $50,000 bottle of wine, if thats more your speed. In either case, expect the host who shows you around on your first visit to greet you again and again.
Best Club To Throw A Bachelorette Party: Hunk
Hells KitchenItd be unjust to liken the Hunk-O-Mania experience to a trip to your workaday strip club. This glittering production is as ambitious and polished as a lot of what youd find nearby on Broadway. The eponymous Hunks, like their mostly women industry colleagues, are highly skilled performers with a flair for flirtation. Bachelorettes and admirers of the male form alike can slake their Magic Mike fantasies immersed in bulging biceps, and Adonis-like abs, as performers meet and greet their way through the crowd.
Best Club To Cut Loose: Pumps
East WilliamsburgStrip clubs that dont feel like strip clubs can be a good thing. Traditional venues come with certain connotations. Patrons can feel pressured, hustled, or like their wallet will dispense automatically if not kept under lockdown — kind of like New York City itself. Pumps, however, feels more like your favorite, secret bar, the one that most of your friends dont know about, where you can really be yourself — or if you prefer, someone else.
The outer-borough club is located on a mostly industrial stretch between Williamsburg and Long Island City. Its just far enough from everything to have a private feel. And its outgrown its hipster strip club designation. Pumps feels a bit like a biker bar, only with a much more diverse crowd of all genders and orientations. The DJ spins mostly hip-hop, but not just top 40 stuff, and tattooed, pierced women with cool, brightly colored hairdos dance alongside performers youd expect to see in more mainstream venues.

Best Club To Throw A Bachelor Party: Sapphire 39
Midtown WestLike NYC restaurants and bars, some strip club behemoths fall from grace, while newcomers scale new heights. A companion club to Sapphire UES, 39 is one such newcomer. The younger of the pair holds its own in Midtown, closer to competition than the original Sapphire. Opened two years ago and still undergoing renovations , Sapphire 39 boasts all the attributes that put its UES location at the top of the heap, but with a more low-key vibe.
Populated by a beautiful and engaging troupe of dancers, and featuring adult film actresses every Thursday night, 39 is a sure bet for a low-stress bachelor party. The performers here are unique and memorable, including one whos a ringer for Single White Female-era Jennifer Jason Leigh. A playful array of distractions include a game room with pinball and arcade games, a ball pit, and an S& M-themed Champagne room, where the manager assured me no actual whipping occurs .
Best Place To Catch Sports: Hoops Cabaret
KoreatownSports are the perfect diversion for when you feel self-conscious about all the bare breasts youve been ogling. Hoops isnt just some dingy sports bar with a few naked dancers. Its a sports haven — a tribute to athletics. Its what Planet Hollywood is to movies, punctuated by topless dancers, all of whom look like they could run a four-minute mile.
Hoops is the perfect marriage of sex and sports, with two stages in the main areas and nine TVs playing a wide array of games at all times. Even the Champagne rooms are sports-themed, each room a tribute to sports like boxing and football. The private balcony rooms hang over the main area and provide a view of all the action. A special Man Cave runs $150 per person for private parties. A $20 cover after 8pm makes Hoops a great alternative to your average sports bar.
