* Paying A New York Traffic Ticket Online
To pay traffic fines online in New York City and Rochester, drivers will first have to access the ticket payment section of the NY DMV internet services website. To initiate the process of paying traffic tickets online in NY, motorists will be required to enter their traffic ticket and driving license numbers. If you do not have your traffic citation number, then you can enter the last four digits of your Social Security Number.
Note that you may also be asked to submit your full name, birth date and gender. The system will accept your traffic tickets payment after you submit your credit card information.
Paying A New York Ticket
Paying traffic tickets online in New York is an option that is available to drivers who have received a TVB traffic ticket within the state. TVB tickets can also be answered in person and by mail. Drivers who commit a violation outside of Rochester and the NYC boroughs must pay their fines directly to the presiding court. The methods available to pay tickets in such circumstances may vary from court to court.

Lost Your Traffic Ticket
If you have a TVB traffic ticket, you can request a replacement traffic ticket on the TVB website.
If your traffic ticket is not handled by the TVB, you will need to contact the local county, city, town, or village traffic court where you received the citation.

Vehicle For Hire Cases
All payments must be made to TLC directly. Under TLC rules:
- You must pay the fine within 30 days of the date of the decision.
- If you fail to pay the fine on time, TLC will place your license on suspension.

New York City Tickets
All non-criminal traffic violation tickets issued in the 5 boroughs of New York City are adjudicated by the Department of Motor Vehicles Traffic Violations Bureau .
TVB does not handle parking violations, red light camera offenses, criminal driving violations , or tickets answerable in a local court.
Traffic Ticket Fines And Penalties

How Do I Answer A Tvb Ticket
You can answer most TVB tickets online. You can either schedule a hearing for the traffic ticket, or you can pay the fine and surcharge with your credit card. For more information, see how to plead to or pay TVB tickets.
To answer your ticket by mail, enter your plea on the ticket and include the appropriate fee if pleading guilty.

What Happens If I Do Not Respond To My Tvb Ticket After I Receive A Suspension Notice
If you continue to ignore the ticket after your license is suspended for failure to answer the ticket, you will automatically be convicted of the charge. This is known as a ‘default conviction.’ The default conviction is equivalent to a guilty finding. The DMV then suspends your driver license for your failure to pay the fine. 2

The question of how to pay a fine, in part depends on the court handling the traffic ticket. Fines are paid directly to the court. This is true even though you may be charged a mandatory surcharge However, for ticket issued in Buffalo, Rochester, or New York City, the traffic ticket fine is paid to the Traffic Violations Bureau and not a city court.
Each court has its own payment rules, but generally a ticket can be paid by several different ways: online, in person, by phone or by mail. If you are uncertain about the method of payment, contact the court. Rye City Court, Westchester, NY will issue certain 0 point plea bargains, however, payments must be made before a defendant leaves court.

Fighting A New York Ticket
The process of fighting traffic tickets in New York varies based on the location where the driver has received his or her traffic citation. The Traffic Violations Bureau of the state Department of Motor Vehicles processes tickets issued within Rochester and the five New York City boroughs. Note that only non-criminal moving traffic violations are processed through the TVB.
Tickets issued outside of these areas are processed by the traffic and criminal courts of the city, county, town or village where the offense was committed. After receiving your decision, the TVB or the corresponding court will schedule your hearing. Driver License Suspension Reform
The New York State Legislature amended the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law in Chapter 382 of the Laws of 2020 and Chapter 76 of the Laws of 2021 to eliminate certain driver license suspensions and to allow motorists to apply for payment plans for certain traffic ticket fines, surcharges, and fees.
Following these changes to the VTL, you may be eligible for a payment plan at no additional charge for most suspension termination fees, other fees, fines, and/or surcharges you owe for traffic tickets.
Payment plan eligibility is limited to traffic ticket-related fines, fees, and surcharges. This legislation does not cover all types of required payments under the VTL.
Payment Plans And Tickets In Multiple Jurisdictions
If you have multiple traffic tickets, each ticket must be answered in the court of the location it was issued.
If you have a pre-existing payment plan with a specific court, and you receive traffic tickets in another jurisdiction, your original payment plan will not apply to any new traffic fines, fees, or penalties you receive. You may apply for a new payment plan with the new court

Paying A New York Ticket By Mail And In Person
Drivers can pay traffic citations in New York by mail and in person regardless of whether or not they were issued a TVB traffic fine. Depending on the severity of the offense, however, you may be required to make a court appearance.
If you choose to provide your NY ticket violation payment of a TVB ticket by mail, fill out the corresponding sections of the citation, include the fee payment and mail the package to the TVB Plea Unit office in Albany. Drivers who decide to pay driving tickets in person, on the other hand, can do so through a nearby TVB office.
Note: If your traffic ticket payment is not due to the TVB, inquire with the corresponding court about the in-person and by-mail payment procedures.
What Happens If I Do Not Answer A Tvb Traffic Ticket
If you do not answer a traffic ticket on time, your driver license will be suspended. It is a crime to drive with a suspended license. A suspension for the failure to answer a ticket does not indicate that you are guilty of the charge. The suspension only indicates that you failed to answer the ticket.
