Best Transportation From Airport To Hotel
Has anyone recently used Go Airlinks New York to shuttle a group of people from the LGA to downtown Manhatten? It looks like in the past they have been horrible. Does anyone have recommodations for a grp of 8 people? Reliable and clean service.

No one will recommend the shuttle services here. Taking two taxis is likely to be your best option.

Go airlinks shuttle on no account use them surly drivers and a long long trip here there and everywhere .
Go AirLink is horrendous.
All State is excellent. – +1 212 333 3333. I’ve used All State a few times and I’ve been very lucky. Sometimes I get the big GMC Yukon for no extra charge. It just depends. They don’t have any idea who I am so it isn’t like the Destination Expert gets upgraded. One time they needed a full size van at Newark and it happened to be in Manhattan so I was the sole passenger in their brand new full size van. I’m not suggesting you try your luck – I’m merely making the point that I know All State has some nice large vehicles.

The great thing about taking a taxi from JFK to Manhattan is that theres a flat rate system in place. In fact, JFK is the only airport that has flat taxi rates to get to Manhattan from the airport. Taxis at JFK charge a flat fare of $52 to get from the airport to Manhattan.
On top of the $52 flat rate, theres a $4.50 surcharge imposed during peak hours , bringing the total fare to $56.50 + tolls & tip. All told, I typically pay $75-80 when taking a taxi to Manhattan from JFK. In terms of time, taxis from JFK take between 1-1.5 hours, depending on traffic.
Getting to NYC from JFK using Uber or Lyft
Much like taxis, expect an Uber or Lyft from the airport to Manhattan to take 1-1.5 hours, depending on traffic. But unlike taxis, theres no flat rate and prices vary drastically depending on the time of day. Ive paid as much as $160 for an Uber to as little as $35.
My rule of thumb is to check Uber/Lyft prices while Im waiting on my luggage. If the prices are under $80, Ill probably order the service, but if the cost is $80+ Ill take a taxi to the city.
Getting to JFK from Manhattan using the subway
- Step 1: Take the subway from Manhattan to Jamaica Station
- Step 2: Take the AirTrain directly to your terminal at JFK

Air Train + Long Island Railroad From Jfk To Manhattan
If speed is your priority then you can take the AirTrain and connect with the Long Island Railroad , though it will cost you about twice as much as using the subway.
Again, at the airport follow the signs to the AirTrain and take the Jamaica Station line.
There you can get on an LIRR train and go to Penn Station in Midtown Manhattan.
Keep in mind when calculating the total cost, that you will likely have to pay more for a subway, bus, or taxi to where you are staying.
- Total Cost: $16 Note: this price is for peak time trains, currently 6 am – 10 am and 4 am – 8 pm. Off-peak trains will be slightly cheaper.)
- On weekends and during off-peak hours, get the City Ticket. $5 one-way travel.
- Travel Time: approximately 35 minutes
- Pros: Quicker than the subway and still significantly cheaper than a taxi.
- Cons: Same issues with large amounts of luggage as with the subway.

LaGuardia Airport, located in the borough of Queens, is the closest airport to Midtown Manhattan .

Getting From Jfk To Jamaica Queens
We will be landing at 10pm at JFK and want to get to a hotel before we continue our travels the next day. We are traveling with two kids under 10 and with two large suitcases. A lot of the airport hotels seem either awful or expensive, but Best Western Jamaica Inn a 15 minute walk from Jamaica train station seems fine. Most of the airport hotels don’t have shuttle bus after 11pm and I doubt we would be ready by then.
I have figured that the AirTrain takes us to Jamaica but it’s $8 per person? I saw somewhere that a taxi the same distance would be $22 so for the four of us that would be cheaper, is that right? Then we wouldn’t have to walk around Queens at night trying to find our hotel.
The next morning I’m not sure if we should walk the 15 mins back to Jamaica train station to take the Long Island Railroad to Penn Station or if we should walk to a subway station a bit closer. I’ve gathered the subway takes longer but is cheaper.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

We have a train to Philadelphia at 10.52am the next day departing from Penn Station.

Note that the NJ Transit trains leave from the older part of Penn Station, not the Moynihan Train Hall.

Its not a bad area, Officially its not Jamaica, Its called Briarwood and is only a couple of blocks from the Briarwood

NYC Express Bus is the official bus operator for the NYC Department of Transportation. At JFK, you can find the bus at Terminals 1, 4, and 8. Look for the red signs.
Travelers arriving at other terminals can take the Air Train to Terminal 1, 4, or Terminal 8 to take the Express Bus.
The bus goes into Manhattan and drops passengers at TWO locations:
- Grand Central Terminal and
- Times Square / Bryant Park
To both destinations from JFK:
Cost: $19.00 per person
- The price covers two suitcases and one carry-on bag.
- More than that and you must pay an additional fee.
Travel Time: Approximately 90 minutes – 2 hours
Hours of Operation: 7 days a week, 11 am – 7 pm, every 30 minutes
Pros:
- Reasonable price for a comfortable ride. Children under 5 are free!
