What Times Are Best To Go To The Zoo

A Day At The Bronx Zoo » Penelopes Oasis

I think it is definitely better to come between the months of April and October, in winter, Im not sure that the animals are very dynamic or especially visible.

Now it is also true that the summer its 35 ° C in the shade, Im not sure either that they move a lot.

Finally, perhaps the ideal is as I did, coming in spring or early fall !!!

The Bronx Zoo is full of restaurants where you can take a lunch break during your visit.

This is especially useful if you are going to the park as a family so that the kids don’t skip their meal times or you don’t have to leave the zoo early to find a suitable place to eat if they work up an appetite. Some restaurants where you can grab a bite to eat are:

  • Dancing Crane Café: dishes from $9 and snacks from $4

Which Parts Of The Zoo You Cannot Miss

If you can not visit all parts of the zoo, here are the four that should absolutely not be missed:

Space Tiger Mountain

With the windows, they stand a few inches from you. It is fabulous !!!

The White Bear area:

The Brown Bear area:

Space Congo Gorilla Forrest:

Here you have the gorillas cuddled with their young. Its beautiful to see and super troubling at times because as you can see in these pictures that a gorilla was watching me take the picture, I felt that he understood everything!

Then there is of course the lions, giraffes and monkeys.

And then according to your tastes, there are also bison, reptiles, birds

The only regret that I have is not being able to see the Wild Asia Monorail.

This is a small train that takes you on a walk in the middle of nature where there are many animals including tigers, lions, elephants, rhinos, antelopes,

In fact as you see in the picture, the monorail is always turned towards the park in order to fully appreciate the spectacle of animals in the wild.

The ride takes about 30 minutes with a guide.

The hours really suck and management isnt the best. You literally have to fight to get enough hours because its so many people that get hired at once with no hours available. Its an okay job if your young n no responsibility. They also are all over the place and lack of communication is a big thing here. Do I suggest this job to others.. kind of. Young kids apply its a great experience. For older people I say no because the hours arent there.

This job is best to just get experience and get something in your resume. Your experience vastly depends on whether you are indoors or out and which managers you get which is all random..

Since started as a employee,I didnt feel bad working at zoo because you see the animals there and have fun seeing the animals, and the work is not difficult at the Bronx zoo.

I had a lot of pros and cons going into working at the Bronx zoo the work environment was good but the hours werent. I worked about 15 hours for 2 weeks

Bronx Zoo Parking Tips

It is always best to pre-book parking in advance before going out. There are plenty of websites and parking apps out there that offer easy interfaces for parking reservations at secure spots and garages. Most of these parking lots and garages offer cheaper rates than drive-in garages as well.

Even if you are parking in the most secure parking garages or lots, never leave your valuables exposed on your car. Many people make it a habit to drop off e-gadgets like mobile phones and laptops on the cars passenger seats. Car-jackers consider parking lots as an easy target and can steal any valuable from even the most secure car parking lots or garages. Do not underestimate anyone.

Do not randomly park anywhere in the city. Go for street parking only at designated parking spots. Do not park in reserved spots like disabled parking slot if you are not eligible for the reservation.

Keep an eye out for traffic signboards to avoid unwanted traffic violations. Many cities and streets across the country have parking restrictions like alternate side parking, loading zones etc. If you fail to move your vehicle when the restriction begins, you could end up on the wrong side of a parking ticket.

Never gamble with the parking meter if you have parked your car in a metered parking spot. Always move your car out before the metered parking timer runs out. Trying your luck with a metered parking lot could result in your car getting towed or impounded.

How Long Does It Take To Visit The Bronx Zoo

A Day At The Bronx Zoo » Penelopes Oasis

To visit the entire zoo it takes a good half a day, that is 4-5 hours.

Now if you have less time, it is quite possible to take the planner at the entrance of the zoo and note the animals you want to see absolutely and set a specific course in the zoo.

Me for example, I didnt have much time to visit because I had to go to the Botanical Garden in the Bronx. So I saw all the main animals and stayed 1h30-2h. Anyway I was all alone and I quickly walked between each pen. : (

But hey it just all depends on what you want to see and you can only stay there like me for 2 hours as a full day, unless you want to take your time !!!

5 Tips for Visiting the Bronx Zoo with Kids

The Most Dangerous Animal in the World exhibit debuted at the Bronx Zoo on April 26, 1963. The exhibit was installed at the Great Apes House and it featured a statement about the danger humans pose.

The words: “The Most Dangerous Animal in the World” were printed in red on top of a cage. Behind the bars of the cage there was a mirror. The exhibit was reportedly still at the zoo in 1981.

What Is The History Of The Bronx Zoo

This zoo was opened in 1889 with 843 animals and was aimed to advance zoological studies, protect wildlife, and educate visitors.

Since the late 19th century, it has grown and now hosts 650 species and more than 6,000 animals on 170 acres in the Bronx.

The Bronx Zoo was one of the first zoos in North America to place animals in natural settings rather than in cages, which allowed them to mix species, while putting them in an environment similar to the one they came from. However, there are separations to avoid predators and potential prey that will coexist, such as ditches or fences. However, for aesthetic reasons, these boundaries are not always visible.

Bronx Zoo And New York Botanical Garden

Next to The Bronx Zoo, you find the New York Botanical Garden. These two attractions are therefore great to combine. I would recommend starting at the Botanical Garden. You can easily get here by taking subway trains 4 or D to Bedford Park Boulevard and from there walk in about 15 minutes to the north entrance of the garden. If you visit the garden from north to south, you can exit at what is actually the main entrance. From there you can walk to the Belmont entrance of the Bronx Zoo, which is located at 2348 Southern Boulevard.

How Much Do Tickets To The Bronx Zoo Cost

From 20 Euros you can get an adult Limited Admission ticket to visit the Bronx Zoo but unlike the “Bronx Zoo Admission” ticket, this does not provide all inclusive and unlimited access to all the attractions available on the day of the visit but only the entrance to the park.

Individual tickets to each attraction are available from about 5 Euros but it does not pay off. If you don’t want to miss out on any of the fun, my advice is to buy the Bronx Zoo Admission ticket for a little more money, starting at 25 Euros for adults. This type of ticket does give unlimited access to popular permanent exhibits like Jungle World or Congo Gorilla Forest and temporary ones like Butterfly Garden or Wild Asia Monorail.

Whichever type of ticket you choose you will have to buy them online and in advance, as you will not be able to enter the zoo if you do not take this step. At the time of purchase you will have to choose a date and time of access to the park.
