Bric Celebrate Brooklyn Festival Announces 2022 Lineup

Summer is just around the corner, which means its time to get ready for a season of music, dance and more at the Lena Horne Bandshell! The 2022 BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival, kicks off on Wednesday, June 8 for a summer of talent spanning from global music icons to chart-topping indie bands, benefit concerts, family days, and movie nights. Programming wraps with a closing night show on Saturday, August 6. The festival, presented in partnership with Prospect Park Alliance and NYC Parks, is back for its 44th annual season of bringing communities together for summer fun in Brooklyns Backyard.

This summer is about being together the power of gathering in this moment of human history, said Diane Eber, Executive Producer of BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! Artists can show us the way to heal through creative expression and theres no better place to experience that than the Bandshell. We are so honored to bring another season of magic to our communities at BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn!

It wouldnt be summer in Prospect Park without the BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival at the Lena Horne Bandshell, said James Snow, Prospect Park Alliance Interim President. Bric Celebrate Brooklyn Festival: Khruangbin

Doors 6:00 pm + Show 7:00 pm

Khruangbin is a three-piece band from Houston, Texas, formed in 2009 with Laura Lee on bass, Mark Speer on guitar, and Donald Johnson on drums. Taking influence from 1960s Thai funk their name literally translates to Engine Fly in Thai Khruangbin is steeped in the bass-heavy, psychedelic sound of their inspiration, Tarantino soundtracks, and surf-rock cool.

This is a ticketed benefit concert. Tickets are required for entry.

BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival has announced its 2022 lineup of free shows happening at Prospect Park Bandshell this summer. As mentioned, the season kicks of on June 8 with Kamasi Washington, Ravyn Lenae, and DJ Reborn. Other shows include reggae star Maxi Priest with Pan Evolution Orchestra , NPR Tiny Desk Contest on the Road Tour with Fantastic Negrito, Seratones, Linda Diaz, and this year’s contest winner , Juneteenth UNITYFEST , Vic Mensa with aja monet , Crumb with Slauson Malone 1 , Kronos Quartet & Sam Green with Roomful of Teeth , Chicano Batman with Charlotte Dos Santos , John Cameron Mitchell, Amber Martin, Bridget Everett & The Tender Moments, and special guests , and The Beths, SASAMI and Charlotte Cornfield .

There’s only one free summer-long outdoor concert and performance series in New York City that has been presenting talent from around the world and around the block for more than 40 years: BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn!

Unlike the multi-stage destination festival scene, BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! is a free, summer-long experience allowing New Yorkers to come back again and again with their friends and family to appreciate or discover a new genre, acclaimed artist, or world culture each night of the Festival. During its over 40-year run, BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! has presented celebrated global music icons, legendary jazz artists, chart-topping indie bands, gravity-defying dance troupes, large-scale film projects and even a virtual reality performance, becoming one of the city’s foremost cultural attractions and a beloved summer tradition.

All BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! performances are free! The festival attracts upwards of 250,000 attendees from across New York City

People are welcome to bring their own chairs and blankets to lay out in front of the Lena Horne Bandshell.

Nigerian superstar Yemi Alade closes our season in high style, taking the Bandshell by storm with her pulsating mix of Afropop, R& B, reggae, and rap. Originally scheduled to perform in 2020, her return to Brooklyn marks a triumphant conclusion to our summer of community, love, and joy. LA-based Amindi effortlessly glides between musical influences of the Black Atlantic, opening the evening with the buoyant sounds of her 2021 debut EP Nice.

Erykah Badu is an American singer-songwriter, record producer, and actress. Influenced by R& B, 1970s soul, and 1980s hip hop, Badu became associated with the neo soul subgenre in the 1990s and 2000s along with artists such as DAngelo and Maxwell. She has been called the Queen of Neo Soul.

Concert Series Has Entertained Prospect Park For Over 40 Years

On Tuesday, BRIC, a Brooklyn-based leading arts and media institution, announced its festival lineup for BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! 2022, which recently confirmed it will return to the Lena Horne Bandshell at Prospect Park at full capacity with live, free and in-person performances.

For the past 44 years, BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn!, presented in partnership with Prospect Park Alliance and NYC Parks, has been the summer-long outdoor concert and performance series, which includes benefit concerts, family days, and movie nights. This years festival will take place from Wednesday, June 8 through Saturday, Aug. 6.

The 2022 BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! season will boast a heavy-hitting artist lineup showcasing musical artists from Brooklyn and around the world including: rapper Vic Mensa, Brooklynite, contemporary poet, writer, lyricist and activist aja monet legendary saxophonist Kamasi Washington Nigerian Afropop phenom Yemi Alade British reggae vocalist Maxi Priest genre-defying rock band Chicano Batman Grammy-winning contemporary blues artist Fantastic Negrito Brooklyn-based rock band Crumb Grammy-winning Latin pop singer Fonseca award-winning actor and composer John Cameron Mitchell performing with Amber Martin, and many more.

Generally, there are chairs in front of the stage at the Bandshell. The rear lawn, where you can bring your own lawn chair or picnic blanket, is another great option for enjoying the show.

This special family edition of the summer-ling festival feautres Montréal-based Cirque Kalabanté, breathtaking acrobatics combined with live music played on the traditional instruments of their native Guinea, including kora, djembe, and various percussion. The sublime Guinean singer and educator Natu Camara and her band get things started during the pre-show.

BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! has always been intended to be a safe space for all. For that reason, we ask that you practice empathy, kindness and respect in the space. After the past two years, we all have different levels of comfort and risks to assess when gathering. With that in mind, please observe the below community care guidelines:

Festival, which recently confirmed it will return to the Prospect Park Bandshell with live, in-person performances. For the past 43 years, BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival has grown to become one of the citys foremost cultural attractions and a beloved summer tradition. This years festival will take place from Saturday, July 31st through Saturday, September 18th with doors opening at 6:00pm for all shows, except the family day performance.

The opportunities we have been afforded to provide a platform for incredible talent from Brooklyn and around the globe, brings up indescribable joy, said Kristina Newman-Scott, President of BRIC. This years line-up marks a momentous time for BRIC, continuing our tradition of bringing some of the best talent to the Prospect Park Bandshell stage, which we have called home for 42 years. Free shows are first come first serve. RSVPs are for information only. They do not hold a space. If you really want to get inside, go 1-2 hours early. But you can always enjoy the music from outside the bandshell. Picnics outside the venue can be really fun.

The festival is diverse like we are, but this is the Latin part. Our Latin concept includes the entire Caribbean, Latin America and Mother Africa.

For our d/Deaf and hard-of-hearing communities, we will have an ASL interpreter at most of our free music shows, located on the left side of the stage.
