The 20 Most Expensive Hotels In New York City

As with hotels, the cheapest time to purchase a flight to NYC is generally from Jan 4th until mid-March.

The most expensive months, by the way, are June and July and the weeks leading up to and including Christmas and New Year’s.

According to Google Flights, the average 5-day round-trip, non-stop flight from London to NYC can reach £1200 during the peak Christmas rush.

With the exception of Easter Weekend and a few other U.S. national holidays, best price round-trip tickets can be found for between £260-£330 all the way up till mid-June.

From roughly mid-June until the start of September, flights from London to NYC are are their most expensive on average, with the best price round-trip tickets averaging around £520.

However, if you wait until the 1st week of September, the best price average sinks to just over £300.

While hotels are a relative bargain in August, flights are still pricey.

Best price, non-stop tickets remain around £300 up until mid-December when the prices begin to climb rapidly.

For Late Arrivals And Early Departures: Twa Hotel At Jfk Airport

Once you land in New York City, you can probably add an hour or more to get to your destination. And, depending on which airport you fly into, and the neighborhood you stay in, it could cost you upwards of $100 for a taxi at rush hour. Thats why the newly opened TWA Hotel at JFK airport is a blessing, but a clear cut above the standard-fare airport hotel. Its directly attached to the airport, for one, but its also a visual throwback to the 1960s, the heydays of air travel. It has a whopping 512 rooms, some of them with runway views. Theres a rooftop infinity pool, the worlds biggest hotel gym , museum exhibits to attract guests and long layovers alike, a fully restored Connie airplane-turned cocktail bar, a wall-to-wall Twister game room, and an outdoor roller skating/ice-skating rink , which alternate based on the season. Michelin-starred chef Jean-Georges has crafted a menu for TWAs Paris Café, rounding out the best airport hotel stay you ever imagined. You might even add it to your city attractions list, checking in a full day early to enjoy it all. In the very least, its a picturesque and memorable place to crash before you relocate to the city the following morning, or to cap your stay before an early morning blast off.

This includes all hotels, from budget accommodations up to 5 stars hotels. See the report here.

Discount websites that offer deals, such as Hotwire.com, really have their best discounts in the off-season.

If you avoid peak areas and get a moderately priced hotel, you should expect to pay between $100-$130/night.

You can even pay less if you follow our tips for cheap accommodations.

Why The New York Knicks Are So Expensive | So Expensive

I was planning to visit New York during the week commencing 20th May 2013. Can anybody tell me why hotels are so expensive that week? They are almost double the price you can get the same room for the folowing week…

The following week is Memorial Day a lot of people go out of town for the holiday, and it is considered the start of the summer holiday season when lots people take their vacations and go away.

Including our memorial day weekend may increase prices a bit, but I am not seeing a dramatic difference between the two weeks.

I’d suggest double checking your search. Perhaps your number of guests per room was different or you had some other inconsistency.

Where are you searching? It’s a bit early for may discounts

Fleet week maybe but prices could come down. May is also a lot of graduations.

New York City Plans To Cap Hotel Rooms Make It More Expensive To Visit

The 10 Most Expensive Hotel Suites in New York City Skift

by Gary Leffon May 1, 2021

New York City is expected to approve rules that would prevent opening new hotels. Specifically the City Council would have to approve new projects. In limited neighborhoods where this has been in place since the Bloomberg administration, no hotel project has started.

This will mean fewer hotel rooms in the city, higher room rates, and fewer visitors as a result. It will therefore mean less tax revenue . It will mean less business for Broadway, for restaurants, for taxi cabs that have struggled in the face of Uber and Lyft.

Even the citys own experts think this is insane,

And in an internal memo obtained by The Times, the citys top planning official warned that a more limited proposal requiring a special permit for hotels in the Union Square area of Manhattan could hamper the hospitality industry, without a viable urban planning rationale.

We flag that to continue with this proposal could be seen as contrary to economic recovery principles and sound planning, Marisa Lago, the director of the planning department, wrote last year in the memo to City Hall.

So why is this on the verge of happening? It benefits both incumbent hotel owners and hotel unions by shutting out competition.

  • Limiting competition will make existing hotels more profitable, and unions can demand better wages from hotels that lose more money if shut down by a strike.

For A Sophisticated Simple Sojourn: Hotel Hugo

SoHo, Tribeca, and West Village have a reputation for being chic, sophisticated, and everything you might associate with a quintessential NYC visit. But they also have a reputation for being over-the-top expensive when it comes to hotels and BnBs. Hotel Hugo gives you an affordable key to these neighborhoods, tucked into Hudson Square . Location aside, the hotels main draw is its rooms, decked out with mid-century modern furnishings, giving you a sumptuous, soothing place to rest your head. This is 4-star hospitality at its most pure: Youre in New York to experience New York, and when you retire for the day, you want a room that matches the metropolis sophistication.

The Best Bang For Your Buck: Freehand New York

You already know a trip to NYC can break the bank. Thankfully hotels like Freehand exist, offering 4-star amenities at extremely competitive rates. Its no wonder they attract a young, creative crowd, which is only fitting since the building used to house the George Washington Hotel, home to storied creatives like Keith Haring and Christopher Isherwood. A Hotel Doesnt Have To Be Expensive Either

My first thought was that the hotel would be the most expensive cost during my visit. But thats not true. If you dont book last minute and youre in time to book an accommodation, the prices can be very affordable. Ive paid around 130 dollar per night and I was sleeping right around the corner of Times Square. Literally everything was on walking distance and the hotel was very comfortable. So if you decide to book an accommodation outside of downtown Manhattan, you can definitely find some hotels for less than 100 dollar per night. Youll need the metro anyway, even if you do sleep in downtown Manhattan!

Costs New York: What Did I Spend

The Most Expensive Hotel Room In NYC

Besides the ticket to New York and the hotel, Ive spent like 400 dollar in five days. And believe me: I could have save so much more money. Ive eaten breakfast in a diner twice , Ive eaten breakfast in a more modern restaurant, Ive been drinking cocktails on a luxurious rooftop bar and Ive been drinking some beers in a bar twice. Besides that, I also went to the top of the Rockefeller Centre to see New York from above and the entrance costed around 37 dollar per person. The conclusion: Ive spent 50 dollar on transport, 37 dollar on sights and 310 dollar on food and drinks. And I could have spent so much less on the last cost. I think its possible to spend around 250 dollar in five days for everything in total!

Dont Overlook Smaller Independent Hotels

We admit that chain hotels have a lot of advantages, especially when it comes to price. Manhattan is home to every chain hotel you can think of. However, nothing beats a memorable stay at a friendly independent hotel. Theres just something about the personal touches and human interaction that we really enjoy. Weve waxed poetic about Londons wonderful family-run hotels and New York has a few to seek out as well.

Cheapo Picks: Hotel 414 is a cozy B& B with budget-friendly rooms and an easygoing staff in Hells Kitchen, while the Chelsea Pines is a fun spot with a super-friendly crew and decor dedicated to Hollywoods Golden Age.

Why Is October So Expensive

Trying to plan a trip for late October or early November but the hotels outrageous!

NYC Marathon is November 4th.

Also, October is a nice time to visit weatherwise.

September through New Year’s is the peak season for travel to NYC. Prices are driven even higher in late October and early November because of Halloween and the New York Marathon.

New York City hotels are always expensive, and as Crans rightly points out, the fall is our peak travel season. January and February are the cheapest months to visit New York, followed by July and August.

There are also cheaper places to stay that are very accessible to Manhattan by public transit. If you let us know your travel dates and hotel budget per night, we can try to help you find something.

The hotels are fairly priced in accordance with demand.
