Where To Stay In Soho New York

Greenwich Village Best Place To Stay In New York City For Nightlife

NYC GUIDE: SOHO Manhattan | MUST visit places

For history buffs, there are few neighborhoods as evocative as The Village. If you want to stay in an area that has an authentic feel of New York, this is one of the best neighborhoods. The village was once the Bohemian capital of New York and the center for the LGBT, 60s Counterculture, and Beat movements. While that era is long gone, the feel of the neighborhood is not.

Get lost on a side street after side street of gorgeous townhouses and tree-lined blocks. The neighborhood is simultaneously quiet and happening with a great music scene. If you arelooking for where to stay in New York City that has a great history this is it!

Visit Washington Square Park, the Cherry Lane Theater , see a jazz performance at Blue Note or Village Vanguard in the West Village or have a drink at the White Horse Tavern, Chumleys, or the Stonewall Inn.

For Luxury Lovers Upper East Side

    Soho House New York City

The Upper East Side is the right area to stay for you if you like things a little quieter, you want to go for a run in Central Park in the morning, and you plan to explore the museums of New York.

Although the Upper East Side has changed a bit over the years, people still think of it as the neighborhood of the rich and beautiful, with expensive clothes and tiny dogs in handbags.

Of course thats a bit of a stereotype, but theres more than a kernel of truth to it. In spite of that, or perhaps because of it, its worth staying in the Upper East Side.

Its full of beautiful buildings and luxury boutiques, with Central Park as a scenic backdrop. 5th Avenue, which runs east of Central Park, is home to the citys most famous museums.

This part of 5th Avenue is also known as Museum Mile. There youll find the Guggenheim Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Jewish Museum, the Goethe Institute, and the Neue Galerie.

Pros of staying in the Upper East Side:

    • Within walking distance of many of the citys major museums
    • Central Park is right next door
    • Quieter than the other districts

Cons of staying in the Upper East Side:

    • Hotels are a bit more expensive than in the other districts
    • Smaller selection of restaurants and bars, especially in the lower price ranges
    • Slightly longer journey to the sights in the south of Manhattan

    Where To Stay In Nyc

Known for its killer rooftop pool, James draws crowds during the summer, stories of al fresco hangouts echo above the sounds of the streets below, and the rest of the year the hotel shines, even when the weather isnt warm. The view from the room, as well as the view from the food and drink especially at Jimmys is exceptional.

Like any hotel inspired by a French film from the 1940s, this magnificent structure is an invitation to elegance and luxury. Nomo Soho is the citys trendy and elegant meeting place, attracting locals and tourists alike with its stylish rooms and rooftop lounge, and downstairs restaurant that seems to be buzzing at all hours.

Staying In New York As A First

NYC Guide: SOHO – Best Places To Go

Especially when you are in New York for the first time, you want to experience a lot of the citys highlights this is best done directly in Manhattan because the distances are short and you can reach all the sights of New York on foot. Many people are drawn to the Theatre District around Times Square and Midtown, but Soho, the Financial District and the West Village are also famous.

The adjacent neighborhoods of Brooklyn and parts of Queens like Long Island City attract many visitors. However, if you want a wide selection of trendy bars and restaurants near your New York hotel in the evening, Williamsburg, the East Village and the West Village are your best bet.

    The Roxy Hotel Tribeca

The Roxys heart and soul, never mind a retro cinema-like entrance that also references its name, exudes fun, unpretentious showbiz. Perhaps no other luxury hotel in SoHo has quite such a convergence of facilities, including an esteemed jazz club, a small cinema and a hair and beauty salon. Its all heartily augmented with several bars and a cavernous atrium lobby lined with rugs and stuffed with Chesterfields. An array of rooms swerve between art deco-lite furniture and bold, if not brash, 1970s patterned decor.

Best Cheap Mid Budget And Luxury Hotels Near Central Park New York City

Central Park hotels are abundant but do tend to span the higher price point bracket. A budget hotel around Central Park could cost more than a Mid Range hotel in Times Square.

We stayed at 1 Hotel Central Park and it was fantastic. The materials of wood with wrought iron were elegant and relaxing. It reminded us of when we stayed in traditional Ryokans in Japan.

The Whitby Hotel has a 9.5 rating, which is the joint highest Booking.com rating in New York City .

We enjoyed a wonderful afternoon tea in the Whitby Hotel bar area.

Best Brooklyn Neighborhood For Nightlife: Williamsburg

Like DUMBO, Williamsburg is separated from Manhattan by the East River. You will get some of the absolute best views of NYC from any of their many vantage points, making this one of the best places to stay in New York City.

The neighborhood is often considered hipster, thanks to its expansive art scene and the easy-going locals. Over the past decade or so, Williamsburg has seen a massive uptick in tourism and new residents, it seems like cat is out of the bag.

Although it does have a bustling night-life scene, Williamsburg is still generally quieter than most parts of Manhattan.

There is no shortage of people eyeing Williamsburg as a place to stay in New York City, so options can be pricey. However with the abundance of things to do, relaxed ambience and easy access to Manhattan it warrants consideration.

    Things to do Williamsburg
    • Hang out at Domino Park. Domino Park to me is the most underrated park in New York City. The views of Manhattan are unrivaled and being by the water is pure bliss, especially at sunrise & sunset!
    • Spend your quarters at Barcade. Whether you choose to get some booze or not, being at an old school arcade is more fun than youd think. Try to beat the high-score or just try your hand at one of these nostalgic games.
    • Walk the Williamsburg Bridge. Although its noisier than its southern neighbor the Brooklyn Bridge, the Williamsburg bridge warrants a visit thanks to its photo-worthy panoramic views.

    Pin on Places to Visit

Brooklyn isnt anywhere near as touristy as Manhattan and just from a quick hotel search that much is apparent.

However, despite far fewer options, there are also far fewer people booking the rooms. Less demand means less supply.

Williamsburgs bars and restaurants spill out onto Berry Street and Bedford Avenue.

Wythe, Hoxton and William Vale are in close proximity to this area and each other. Hotel Indigo is in a much busier area but well connected.

Further down in Brooklyn, if you can afford it, we think 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge has to have one of the best views in the entire city.

Sunset over Brooklyn Bridge, Statue of Liberty and Lower Manhattan every single day from an infinity pool no less! It is a splurge and will cost you but it looks amazing.

Brooklyn Where To Stay In New York City For Return Visitors

Brooklyn is renowned for its diverse residential neighborhoods. The most populated borough of New York City is huge and covers over 3 times the land area of Manhattan Island.

The Dumbo area close to Brooklyn Bridge is extremely touristy but not in a gimmicky way like Times Square. However, the area we recommend you consider staying in Brooklyn is Williamsburg.

If youre looking for hipster, bars spilling out onto streets, artsy, chilled and quite frankly awesome, Williamsburg is the place you should book.

You can always get a subway into Manhattan.

The reason we say Brooklyn / Williamsburg is where to stay in New York City for return visitors is because most first timers will stay in Manhattan, explore Brooklyn and Williamsburg, then say Ahh, next time we will stay here.

Where To Find Cheap Hotels In New York

One thing in advance: New York is not particularly cheap and the rule of thumb is: the further you are from the main sights , the cheaper it will be. But you have to consider one thing: the trip from the hotel costs not only time but also money with the Subway, this is manageable, but I would not recommend being too far away from Manhattan. After all, most of the attractions that New York is so famous for are located.

Therefore, a popular compromise is the boroughs that border Manhattan: Long Island City in Queens, Williamsburg, Greenpoint, and DUMBO and Downtown Brooklyn in Brooklyn and New Jersey.

Relatively affordable neighborhoods in Manhattan are parts of Midtown, Murray Hill and the Theatre District.
