A Few Small Networks Of Note:
Harlem Childrens Zone, founded by Geoffrey Canada, has two k-12 schools, known as the Promise Academy Charter Schools. Families may enter the “zone” when their children are toddlers. Class size is small with at least two teachers in every room. In addition to a longer school day and year, students have access to free after-school sports, tutoring and arts programs. Parents may take part in workshops. There is an onsite health center with free medical, dental and mental-health services. Check out their website for more information.
Public Preparatory Charter Schools include elementary and middle schools in Manhattan and the Bronx. Founded in 2005 as the first all-girls charter school in New York City, Girls Prep cultivates the attitude that girls can do anything. It offers back-to-basics lessons, uniforms and a color-coded system for behavior. Also offers pre-kindergarten. A fourth school, Boys Prep, opened in 2014, and a fifth, Girls Prep Bronx II, opened in 2020.
Hebrew Language Academy Charter has two locations in Brooklyn. They are the only schools in the city to offer instruction in Hebrew, and have attracted children of many different faiths and nationalities.
Hellenic Classical Charter School, a well-organized K-8 school in Park Slope, now has a second school on Staten Island. It offers instruction in Greek language and an introduction to Greek culture. We liked it even for children not of Greek heritage.

Preparing For College And Beyond
The high schools College Access and Success team is active in organizing school visits by college recruiters as well as student trips to college campuses. The team further supports college preparation by coordinating student participation in summer and year-long enrichment programs to strengthen preparation for college. Our college team spends much of its time providing support to alumni as they navigate college life.
Our students receive support with SAT and ACT tests, collecting high school transcripts, editing personal essays, filing FAFSA, and submitting college applications.
Application For Enrollment September 2023 Is Now Open
Admission to our charter schools is by lottery. We do not require exams, essays or interviews. We welcome applications from English language learners and students with special needs. To participate in the lottery, an application must be submitted by Monday, April 3rd. Applications submitted after the lottery deadline will be automatically placed at the bottom of the waitlist in the order in which they were received.

Senior: While this school is very disciplined so it may become annoying at times, it creates a team and family like no other. Students and staff bond continuously even after promotion to high school and beyond. My experience with KIPP has been a ride and I didnt understand much at first but later down my journey I have realized that they care. They truly do care. As graduation begins to arrive, teachers ive had in elementary and middle are popping in to congratulate me and my peers for such a amazing transition. The babies they once knew are no longer babies. Many schools do not have this bond with their past teachers, many do not have teachers who make sure theyre there throughout each event. KIPP had shaped me into the intelligent young woman I am today and as my journey begins to close as the first founding class of KIPP K-12 since 2009, I want to leave knowing that I have made history in my school community. Here we are at the end of marking period 3, time is flying. All work needs to be submitted by Thursday 12:30 pm so that grades can be entered. If you are missing assignments, you can e-mail your teachers to get, you have a few days left and can still get this done!
Thank you to all of you that have been calling the school ahead of time to let us know of students needing to leave early for appointments, this really does help us.
Congratulations to our students that have continued to complete their internship papers, we know this is a great deal of work and effort and it is paying off. Well done!

Good Afternoon,
I hope you all had a good weekend.
Ramadan Mubarak to those that observe Ramadan.
We are nearing the end of marking period 3, on the 14th. Do make up and hand in any missing assignments soon so that they can be put in Jupiter. As of today, Regents are being given and have not been canceled. If you are scheduled for a Regents class, you will need to take it to fulfill that requirement with waivers not being given. If this information changes, I will let you know.
We are excited that student internships are opening up and students are now starting to be placed. To all new students and families, before COVID students were placed in various business and community settings where they learn and practice valuable workplace skills such as communication, time management, problem-solving, interpersonal skills, etc… Students in the program will be expected to be placed as we gain more sites. Instead of coming to the school, they will report to their site, this will be approximately 20 hours per week. You will be notified once a placement has opened until then you are to report to school during internship week. This is only for A/B week students. If you have any questions please reach out to Ms. Wigfall, Ms. Aska, or me.
Ms. Felder will continue to send out information regarding senior activities so be on the watch for this, some of this is time-sensitive. The senior committee has a lot of fun activities planned.
