If you obtained your marriage license from this office, you can get a copy of your marriage certificate by mail. Send a copy of your drivers license, a check for $10.00 made payable to the Troy City Clerk, you and your spouses full names at the time of marriage, and the date of your marriage to Troy City Clerk, 433 River Street, Troy, NY 12180. Include a phone number in case we have questions, and the address where you would like the certificate to be mailed. Upon receipt of this information, we will provide a certified copy of the marriage certificate.

Receive Your License And Wait 24 Hours
A city clerk employee should turn over your license within moments of receiving your completed application and payment, according to the office. Your license is good for 60 days, but you can’t get hitched for 24 hours after it’s issued unless you obtain a judicial waiver. Divorced Outside Of Canada
If you were divorced outside of Canada, you will need to provide certain documents to prove that you are no longer married. The Office of the Registrar General for the province of Ontario needs to validate these documents and provide authorization in order for you to get a marriage licence.
Once you have received your Foreign Divorce Authorization from the Office of the Registrar General you can apply for a marriage licence.

Who Can Perform A Marriage Ceremony
To be valid, a marriage ceremony must be performed by any of the individuals specified in Section 11 of the New York State Domestic Relations Law. These include:
- the mayor of a city or village
- the former mayor, the city clerk or one of the deputy city clerks of a city of more than one million inhabitants
- a marriage officer appointed by the town or village board or the city common council

What Are The Steps Needed To Get Married In New York
In order to enter into a valid marriage in New York, you must obtain a marriage license and have the marriage ceremony conducted by a person who is allowed to perform such ceremonies. First, you must apply for and obtain a valid marriage license from a town or city clerk in New York. Then, you must deliver the license within 60 days to the clergy member or magistrate who will perform the marriage ceremony. This is a simple process, involving the following steps:

What About The Ceremony
In-person wedding ceremonies are available at Hempstead Town Hall outside on the patio, where social distancing and other safety protocols are in place. Please call to book your wedding ceremony.
There is no particular form or ceremony required except that the parties must state in the presence of an authorized member of the clergy or public official and at least one other witness that they take one another as a married couple. There is a minimum age of 18 to be a witness.
The Town Clerk’s Office has a chapel available for small wedding ceremonies. Marriage ceremonies will be officiated by a Hempstead Town Marriage Officer by appointment only on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, from 10 AM to 3 PM, and on Thursday, from 10 AM to 5:00 PM. The fee the use of the chapel is $65. The chapel can only be booked after obtaining a New York State Marriage license. If the license was not issued by the Town of Hempstead marriage department, please come into our office with the original marriage license and valid I.D. to schedule a ceremony.

Get An Extended Marriage Certificate From The New York Marriage Bureau
There are two types of marriage certificates: a short certificate and extended certificate. The short certificate is the basic form. In order to be married in New York, you must not be currently married to someone else. Therefore, it is very important that you are sure your final marriage is officially dissolved. Some municipalities may require that you prove this by presenting certified copies of your final divorce decree, annulment papers, or the death certificate of your former spouse. Who Can Legally Get Married In New York

Get A New York Marriage License
Online application: All couples looking to get married must first go about getting a New York marriage license. Couples can begin the application process online. After submitting an application, you will receive a confirmation number and further information on what documentation to bring with you to the New York City Clerks Office. Note that online applications are only valid for 21 days, so couples should apply for one no sooner than 2.5 weeks before you arrive in NYC, lest the application expire.
Getting a Marriage License in NYC: Once you have applied online and are physically in New York, its time to make the trip to the City Clerks Office. The Manhattan branch is located at 141 Worth St., but each borough has a location . The Manhattan branch is open Monday through Friday, 8:30am to 3:45pm, so plan accordingly.
