The American lifestyle and outdoor brand Eddie Bauer is planning its first store location in Europe and has settled on a shop-in-shop in a Globetrotter store in downtown Cologne, with the opening scheduled for September 28.
Eddie Bauer has been an online retailer in the German market for 25 years. We have been looking for the right partner and the best location for some time to build an even more intensive relationship with our retail customers, said Bernd Niemeyer, Chief Marketing Officer Eddie Bauer Germany.The Globetrotter retail experience store in Cologne offers the active outdoor enthusiast a unique shopping experience and is exactly the right place for Eddie Bauer to inspire our customers with their excellent products,” Niemeyer added.

Does Eddie Bauers Path To Growth Lead Through Urban Areas
Eddie Bauers outwear is meant for active enthusiasts to pursue the great, open outdoors. But the companys future growth may rest on the shoulders of urban dwellers.
The outerwear and apparel maker, with about 300 stores in North America today, says it sees a clear path to open an additional 200 locations. That expansion can be partly fueled by new locations in major cities where it doesnt currently have a presence, including New York City and Los Angeles.
Eddie Bauer recently opened a Manhattan store a fairly small pop-up location that the retailer intends to fully renovate next year. It will be the brands first location in the city since 2007.
We know we have a lot of customers in the area, Eddie Bauer Chief Executive Mike Egeck told Fortune. He said the company crunched data gleaned from its online business shows the retailer has at least 20,000 customers in Manhattan, and some 250,000 Eddie Bauer shoppers in New York.
Eddie Bauers roots can be traced to 1936, when the companys namesake founder developed the first quilted goose down jacket in North America. The companys heritage is a great American authentic outdoor brand, according to Egeck, and the company has worked hard to reestablish that image after landing in bankruptcy in 2009.
And those potential customers are also walking around the streets of Manhattan.

There have been isolated accounts of Eddie Bauer stores cutting up and disposing of unsold clothes rather than offering them to charity.
There is no reporting indicating that this is a widespread trend, and the company denies that it is common practice.
In December 2017, a set of photographs posted to Facebook led to accusations that Eddie Bauer clothing stores destroyed leftover clothing instead of offering it for donations or leaving them intact so that they could be worn or resold.
The post described several Eddie Bauer-brand clothing items left damaged and discarded outside the manufacturer’s store in New York City:

Pop-up store will be transformed into permanent store after the holidays and open in Spring 2015.
Eddie Bauer has announced the opening of a new pop-up store in Union Square in New York City, scheduled to be open through the holiday shopping season, according to a press release.
“Opening a new store in Manhattan is exciting for the brand,” says Mike Egeck, Chief Executive Officer for Eddie Bauer. “New York City remains the center of the retail industry, and a thriving community of outdoor enthusiasts. We are proud to serve as the city’s premier retailer for quality outdoor adventure products.”
The Eddie Bauer pop-up will be open from November 6, 2014 to February 14, 2015, and will provide access to a curated selection of products and gear from all four Eddie Bauer series: First Ascent, Sport Shop, Travex and Outdoor, as well as select Eddie Bauer footwear styles.
The temporary store is equipped with a Twitter-activated vending machine to attract and reward passersby.
