Of course, for people who havent yet experienced a true New Years Eve in New York City, we understand the allure. And if youre committed to staying up all night in the City That Never Sleeps to watch the new year roll in, youre going to want to take your advice: Pick one location, and stay put.
Manhattan is probably the first borough that comes to mind when you think of New York City, but what many visitors often dont realize is just how big this borough is. To put it into perspective, theres about 22 distinct neighborhoods here that all offer their own experiences and vibes. When you add in the other boroughs and their neighborhoods, it gets even more complicated.
Like any other busy holiday, ride-hailing pricing is sure to surge on New Years Eve. Thats why selecting a neighborhood for your celebration is key, for your safety, wallet and stress level. Dont even think about bar hopping from the Meatpacking District to Williamsburg youll spend more time in an Uber than you will celebrating.
With all this in mind, here are some ideas for how you can celebrate, from the most low-key to most wild.

New Years Eve In New York In Prospect Park
Brooklyn has been the antidote to overcrowded Manhattan for many years. On New Years Eve, Brooklyn puts on a great celebration at Grand Army Plaza in Prospect Park, Brooklyn. Many tourists have started to opt for this New Years Eve alternative. This is largely due to the first-class view of the fireworks. For fifteen minutes, the sky is illuminated above Long Meadow, the large clearing in Prospect Park. Music, drinks and great food are, of course, also part of the fun.

The Peninsula New York New Years Eve Rooftop Party
Welcome the new year from 23 stories above Fifth Avenue at this long-running black tie New Year’s Eve event. For the occasion, the five-star Peninsula New York hotels glamorous Salon de Ning will be transformed into a Studio54-inspired party with disco tunes spun by a live DJ, and the dance floor spilling out onto a heated rooftop terrace. Who Does NOT Have a View of the Fireworks?
In researching some other posts online, I was wary of the information NON New Yorkers were providing, such as, “to see NYC fireworks this year, the restaurant or upper floors of the Andaz Wall Street would be a good option.” thepointsguy
This is completely incorrect as the Andaz Hotel Rooms do NOT have views of the Brooklyn Bridge , and the restaurant is on the ground floor, with about 100 buildings between it and the BB. The hotel is about a 15 minute walk from the BB, but you will not see the fireworks from the hotel.

Whos Performing On ‘dick Clarks New Years Rockin Eve’ This Year
This years show will be studded with plenty of star entertainment, including performances from Christina Aguilera, Bastille, New Kids on the Block, and Dan + Shay. We personally stayed in two different neighbourhoods TriBeCa and Midtown West and both are great options. TriBeCa feels a little more local, and has good access to the southern tip of Manhattan, while Midtown West is more central located on the west side of the island.
Best Hostel in Manhattan Jazz on Columbus Circle
Staying downtown in Manhattan is always going to be expensive, but if youre in a budget and still want to be in the heart of everything, then the absolute best hostel in town is Jazz on Columbus Circle.
Its a small, boutique hostel and has been renovated to have modern amenities throughout. It has a funky vibe with some awesome decor, and the dorms are small with between 3-6 beds.
Best Mid-Range Hotel Pod 51 Hotel
High-quality accommodation in New York City is not cheap, but the closest balance you can get between affordability and quality is at Pod 51 Hotel.
The rooms are no-frills, but clean, bright and more spacious than you might expect. The location is great, theres fast wifi and an amazing rooftop garden to enjoy.
Best Luxury Hotel in Manhattan Hotel Giraffe by Library Collection
This is it the top of the cream for hotels in New York that you can still get for well under $1000 a night.
The Library Collection has some of the best hotels all around the city, but our favourite is Hotel Giraffe. Youll be treated like a king or queen here!

Know How To Get Around In New York
You could jump into a classic yellow taxi which is a well-trusted mode of transport! Being the most populated city in the world, NYC is also accessible by alternative taxis such as Uber and Lyft.
The public bus is also a good option, especially if youre trying to get between the five boroughs. If youre a first-time visitor, its a good idea to get a map of the bus routes!
One of the most well-known modes of transport is the New York Subway, which operates 24 hours a day. Check out one of the maps in the station to avoid any mishaps !
You can also try out one of the water taxis where you can travel via the citys waterways. You can also cycle around the city streets and rental passes can be bought from the Citi Bike app or from one of the kiosks.
You can also make use of the super-touristy Hop-On-Hop-Off bus, which is perfect for the New York places to visit and getting your bearings in a new city. Finally, pop on your walking shoes and head out into the concrete jungle just like a true New Yorker.

Buyinga New York CityPASS is by far our number one travel tip for any NYC itinerary. Weve talked about it a lot in this article, and thats because the New York CityPASS is just great value. For only USD$136 youll get access to some of the most popular attractions in the city.
This includes the Empire State Building, the 9/11 Memorial and Museum, Rockefeller Center Top of the Rock, a Statue of Liberty or Circle Line cruise, entrance to the Met as well as the American Museum of Natural History.

Aiming to arrive 29th/30th December and leave on the 2nd January. Will just be me & my partner.
We’ve never been to NY, so open to the easiest location to access all the typical tourist sites.
I’d say we’re looking for somewhere 4* mid range. As long as it’s clean and in an accessible location, we’ll be happy.
Budget is the biggest piece. 4 star over the holidays is not going to be inexpensive. Are you ready to pay at least $400/ night ? It’s possible too that there is a cultural barrier and our definitions of 4 stars are different- if your goal is somewhere clean then that isn’t necessarily a high end, luxury hotel. 🙂

Pretty much all of Manhattan and much of Queens and Brooklyn is “accessible” in that they all have good subway coverage.
Perhaps take a few minutes and read the Top Question “Which Area Should I Stay In?” on the right side of the non-mobile screen? The info is old but still accurate.
As a rough guide, take a look at something like booking.com or hotels.com and plug in your dates and click on 4 star properties in Manhattan.
