Where Should I Stay When Visiting New York City

Accommodations In The Theatre Financial New York

12 Things Every First Timer MUST DO When Visiting NYC !

The Financial District is located in the very south of Manhattan. It offers the 9/11 Memorial Museum, the One World Observatory and the Battery Park several important New York sights. The Brooklyn Bridge is just as quickly reached as the Staten Island Ferry and my beloved Grand Banks in the adjacent Chelsea on the Hudson River.

This is a great place to stay even with kids. Its great here because its pretty quiet in the evenings.

The Suites At Central Nyc

If youâre looking for spacious hotels in New York for family of 5 or more, or just like the idea of having a self-contained apartment to save some money by preparing your meals, the Suites at Central NYC are well worth considering.

Located just south of Times Square, the Suites are just a 6-minute walk away from Madison Square Garden, 500m to the shopping mecca of Macyâs and 400m walk to the Empire State Building. Times Square is a short subway ride away or a 20-minute walk which you will appreciate if you drop into M & Mâs World to walk away some of the calories!

The hotel offers quirky, spacious, fully equipped apartments perfect for families. Each room has excellent views of the NYC skyline and is so easily accessible to everything. Studio apartments can accommodate four people in two double beds, or for larger families, there are larger apartments that can accommodate families of up to 8 people.

The apartments vary slightly, but all include a kitchenette, air-conditioning and heating, refrigerator, microwave, flat-screen TV, free Wi-Fi and a small dining area.

Why We Love it?

For larger families, this is one of the best places to stay in New York with family. This hotel offers great value for money, plus all families will appreciate being able to prepare some of your meals to save money while in NYC. I rate this as the best hotel in NYC for family of 5 or more people.

Flat Iron And Nomad: My Personal Pick For Best Area To Stay In New York City

When Im considering where to stay in a new city I look for local experiences. I want farmers markets, I want unique restaurants and bars, and I want a central area with good transport links. This is why I fell in love with these two neighborhoods in New York.

Flat Iron and Nomad are neighboring areas, separated only by Madison Square Park. It is mainly late twenty-early thirties creatives and tech entrepreneurs that live here, and they bring trendy cafes, unique bars, and plenty of restaurant choices.

Plus, some of our favorite hotels in New York city are here, which means youll have plenty of options in terms of places to stay.

Where To Stay In Nyc For Nature Lovers: Central Park

Manhattan may not be the natural beacon travelers accustomed to cruising through National Parks are used to, but if being surrounded by green space relaxes you, pick a hotel bordering this public park, where you can plan a morning hike through the ramble, brunch at Tavern on the Green or the Boathouse and wind down at night with a stroll across the Great Lawn. Staying near Central Park is hardly roughing it, however, five star properties surround the lower edges of this beloved green space, which is highly coveted real estate in Manhattan.

For Hipsters: Soho & Lower East Side

New York City Vacation Travel Guide | Expedia

Soho and the Lower East Side are the right areas to stay for you if youve already explored the main sights of New York and want to experience life in different parts of town. Both districts are achingly hip.

Soho borders Greenwich Village to the south and is best-known for its beautiful cast-iron buildings and its many art and design shops. Just like Soho, the Lower East Side is a typical New York residential neighborhood. So you wont find any super-famous sights here.

But what both neighborhoods have to offer instead is an incredibly diverse street scene, and a mix of super-trendy restaurants and boutiques in all price ranges. The best thing about the neighborhoods is that you can get to many other parts of the city on foot from here.

Nowhere else in New York do you get so swept up in life on the streets. Little Italy, the Bowery, Chinatown everythings just a stones throw away.

Pros of staying in Soho & the East Village:

  • Youll be staying where New Yorkers live
  • There are plenty of restaurants, bars, and stores for every budget

Cons of staying in Soho & the East Village:

  • The East Village in particular isnt that well connected
  • You have to take public transport to all the important sights

$200+ Is Normal For A Hotel In New York City

Lets just set your expectations before we go forward. $200-$250 per night is a standard rate for a hotel in Manhattan in a convenient location. This article includes hotels in the $100 to $150 range, so you can imagine that you have to sacrifice something if you get something cheaper.

If youre open to it, hostels in New York City can be a bit more affordable than this, but its cheaper to share a room with a friend than to have a dorm bed in New York City probably.

Walk Between Places On Short Distances

Walking around New York City can be crazy, and a couple of blocks may take a lot longer than youd ever think because of all the people and traffic around.

But if youre feeling fit and love to explore a city on foot, then New York is a great place to do it.

There are tonnes of excellent little shops, galleries, churches, bars and restaurants to be found if you simply wander around and keep your eyes open.

Best Neighborhoods In Nyc

Most of the tourist sights are concentrated in midtown and downtown so I would recommend starting your New York City hotel search in these general areas. If you arent sold on the bustle and noise of city life, you might prefer to choose a hotel uptown, close to Central Park.

In any case, heres a neighborhood guide and quick overview of some of the best places to stay in new york city:

Heres a quick overview of the best hotels in each neighborhood of New York.

Neighborhood

Midtown is the section just south of Central Park and primarily a business and tourist district. Here youll find towering skyscrapers, each jockeying for a view of the park luxury shopping on 5th Avenue and tons of classic New York City cabs and hot dog stands on the streets.

While no one in their right mind wants to live in Midtown, given how hectic it is, many visitors to NYC will like how centrally located this neighborhood is!

You can walk straight into Central Park for a picnic, zip up the 4, 5 and 6 trains north to the classic museums on the Upper East Side or walk downtown to Rockefeller Center and Times Square.

Midtown just south of Central Park is the a fantastically swanky spot and the best place to stay in New York if you like luxury hotels, have business meetings or want epic views of the park.

Avoid The Tourist Traps In New York And Dont Buy Anything Off The Street

There are a lot of tourist traps in New York and some people will tell you anything to get you in the door. If youre walking through a heavily trafficked area and someone gives you a flyer for an attraction promising you that youll see Aziz Ansari for $0/$5, dont believe it. Those comedy nights rarely include anyone famous and many of these shows are free as long as you meet the $15 drink minimum.

Similarly, there are a lot of restaurants that CLAIM to have authentic food, but the ones that are authentic dont need to assert that they were the first or the best. The real ones will be FULL with locals waiting for a table, so use Yelp to find the real thing.

Dont buy stuff, especially water bottles, on the street. I always check if the bottle has been previously opened, however paying more than $1 for a water bottle is a rip-off. No matter how thirsty you are, keep walking to the nearest bodega. The CVS down the street, as well as the local bodega, are good places to buy a bottle of water. Paying with a card shouldnt be a problem. I wrote a guide about finding the best souvenirs in New York on a budget, so skip the aggressive street sales and go straight for stores with set prices.

If someone offers you something on the street, please dont take it whether its drugs, fake designer purses, or an offer for a massage. You know it wont end well.

Things To Do In Brooklyn

Williamsburg is one of those places you eat, drink and chat your way through an entire vacation. Visit trendy or dive bars and eateries, plus Domino Park and even Bushwick a little further away from the East River.

The lower parts of Brooklyn are filled with amazing places to visit, including:
