Summer Rising: New Nyc Summer School Program Begins

More Students Return To NYC Schools, As Summer Rising Sign-Ups Begin

NEW YORK CITY New Yorks free summer school program for children across the five boroughs kicks off Tuesday, weeks after a tumultuous school year came to an end.

The Summer Rising program is available to every New York City student in grades K-12, according to Mayor Bill de Blasio.

The city has angled Summer Rising as a program to help children whove had a rough school year due to the pandemic.

Its a chance for them to be back with their classmates and engage in several kinds of activities.

Summer Rising is a joint program that combines traditional academic support with enrichment programming from the Department of Education and the Department of Youth and Community Development.

The program incorporates field trips, outdoor recreation and the arts.

City officials have said the summer school program will address academic and emotional needs of youth through tailored support.

According to the citys Summer Rising website, the program will create a bridge back to school in the fall and give parents peace of mind as they return to work.

The program is available to every public school student, including those with disabilities.

However, some parents have said their kids have been stuck on waitlists and unable to get into the expanded summer program.

City officials then addressed the enrollment issues and assigned each child to their home school or one nearby, even if it was at full capacity, ultimately creating potential logistical problems and improper staffing.

Recognition Of Earned Credit

All New York State registered high schools must grant transfer credit for all credit awarded by any public or nonpublic registered New York State high school. After consultation with relevant faculty, the High School Principal may also grant transfer credit for work done at institutions other than New York State registered high schools upon determining that the work is consistent with New York State learning standards and was comparable in scope and quality to the work done in the District high school.

Summer School Across New York Will Be Distance Learning Only

  • May 21, 2020

Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo said Western New York’s moving to the next reopening phase will depend on the experts.

School buildings across New York State will not reopen for summer school, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Thursday.

There will be no in-class teaching, as distance learning will continue for students attending summer school, Cuomo said during his daily briefing in New York City.

Meal programs and child care services for essential employees will continue, he added.

Cuomo has yet to make a decision on whether school buildings and college campuses will be able to open in the fall.

“Its still too early to make that determination,” Cuomo said. “We want to get more information on this inflammatory syndrome. We also want to see how the development for treatment vaccine proceeds.”

The state has identified 157 cases statewide of a Covid-19-related inflammatory syndrome in children that is similar to Kawasaki disease and toxic shock syndrome. The illness is not respiratory in nature and has been found in 13 countries and 25 states in the United States, Cuomo said Thursday.

The governor ordered all schools in the state closed March 18, although school superintendents in Erie County had closed their schools March 16. Since then, teachers have been trying to educate students through a wide variety of online and distance-learning efforts, with students working on lessons at home.

Regardless, the school district has been planning for a virtual summer school.

Which Law Schools Offer Spring And Summer Starts

11 New Summer Camps for NYC Kids in 2019

January and February is deadline season, which means that many law school applicants are getting all their ducks in a row and submitting their apps, eyes aglow at the thought of starting law school in the fall. But what if youre not one of them? You dont want to start this fall, but you dont want to wait until next fall to start. Youre still glowing with the thought of starting law school, but youd like to start in the Spring or Summer next year.

Fortunately for you, there are some law schools that offer spring and summer starts. Which ones are they?

A few things to keep in mind, particularly for schools with spring starts:

  • These schools typically have November or December deadlines for their spring-start applicants. The last LSAT they accept is the October administration or, in a few cases, the December LSAT. Make sure you schedule your test-prep plans accordingly.
  • Schools that offer spring-semester and summer starts also offer fall-semester starts. You will probably feel a little detached from your 1L fall-start classmates, which can take a little bit out of your overall law school experience.
