In 2015, sued the NPS in the for breach of contract, alleging that the NPS had undervalued its trademarks of the names of iconic Yosemite National Park concession facilities. The NPS estimated the value of the intangible assets including the names “Ahwahnee”, “Badger Pass”, “Curry Village”, and “Yosemite Lodge” at $3.5 million. Delaware North lost the contract, and asserted that the historic names were worth $51 million and maintained that the incoming concessioner had to be paid that amount.

The Justice Department and the NPS asserted that this was an “improper and wildly inflated” value. Ellis Island was also used by the military for almost 80 years. Ellis Island Immigrant Hospital

The Ellis Island Immigrant Hospital was a United States Public Health Service hospital on Ellis Island in New York Harbor, which operated from 1902 to 1951. The hospital is part of the Statue of Liberty National Monument. While the monument is managed by the National Park Service as part of the National Parks of New York Harbor office, the south side of Ellis Island, including the hospital, is managed by the non-profit Save Ellis Island Foundation and has been off-limits to the general public since its closing in 1954.

Constructed in phases, the facility encompassed both a general hospital and a separate pavilion-style contagious disease hospital. The hospital had two functions: first, treating immigrants who were ill upon arrival, and second, treating immigrants with conditions that were prohibited by immigration laws. These latter patients were stabilized and often sent back to their home countries. Between 1902 and 1951 the hospital treated over 275,000 patients there were approximately 4,000 fatalities and 350 babies were born there.

Efforts to restore the hospital buildings and other structures on the island are being made by the Save Ellis Island Foundation. The hospital complex has been open to the public on a limited basis for Hard Hat tours since 2014 provided by the Save Ellis Island Foundation.

Land And Water Conservation Fund

The Department of the Interior and the use these funds to purchase critical lands to protect existing public lands.

One ticket gets you to both places, so you can save money by going in the same day. The only problem is there is a lot to see at both, and it’s a big undertaking. Most Immigrants Arriving At Ellis Island In 1907 Were Processed In A Few Hours

More than 12 million immigrants passed through Ellis Island between 1892 and 1954with a whopping 1,004,756 entering the United States in 1907 alone. And yet, even during these days of peak immigration, for most passengers hoping to establish new lives in the United States, the process of entering the country was over and done relatively quicklyin a matter of a few hours.

The passengers disembarking ships at the gateway station in 1907 were arriving due to a number of factors, including a strong domestic economy and pogrom outbreaks of violence against Jews in the Russian Empire, says Vincent Cannato, associate professor of history at the University of Massachusetts, Boston, and author of American Passage: The History of Ellis Island.

It varied from person to person, but for 80 percent, the process took a few hours, and then they were out and through, he says. But it could also take a couple days, a couple weeks, a couple months or, in some very rare cases, a couple of years.

Passage of the Immigrant Quota Act of 1921 and the National Origins Act of 1924, which limited the number and nationality of immigrants allowed into the United States, effectively ended the era of mass immigration into New York.
